Having just had a quick look at the remaining games for the top 3, there is every chance that we could be 9pts clear of 3rd place when we take to the field against Reading. Meaning a win would see us promoted (like Plymouth last year) bar a massive swing in GD if we win the game.

Or 6 pts clear and we would get the same if 3rd place lost on the Sat.

Already planning how to spend THAT Friday night, it will go down in folklore !!

By my reckoning, if we're 9 points clear of 3rd by the end of the Reading game, we're up (because of the superior GD) Edited by SaintBobby

We are doing well averaging just 2 points per game for the season, with that as a bench mark unless the winning run of the last eight games, 22 points in eight or if you like 25 in 11 continues we should be ok, but it doesn't make sense to try and anticipate, it only builds pressure. Beat Doncaster then on to the next one is the sensible target. IMO just leave WHU and Reading to continue Their whining runs.

Sorry no, as we will have 3 left to play at the end of Friday, the other will have 4 because they play on the Sat so still a poss 12 points to them

Reading won't though will they! this is a 3 horse race.If we're 9 points ahead of Reading then it's all over.

Reading don't have a game in hand.

If we have more points than 3rd after we play Coventry, we are up - FACT!

If we have the same number of points and superior GD we're up, don't need more points necessarily.

Unless we start shipping goals willy-nilly then they all need to either muster an extra point or start adding at least +1 to their GD each game without us adding any positive GD at all. En gros they need the extra point..As it stands +6 for Reading and + 8 for West Ham although they've got an extra game..Which is why you can't get odds any better than 10/1 on for us gaining promotion and few appear to be better than 3/1 on for the title. For the bookies we're past the post.

Another pointless thread. Just full of random speculation that anyone could easily have worked out themselves anyway.
You clearly have not read the entire thread - there are jokes and stuff as well as random speculation......plus my FACT of course.

My main hope is that we're mathematically certain of promotion before the Coventry game and ideally confirmed as champions.

That would generate an atmosphere similar to Walsall last year and perserve nerves and fingernails.

The Reading game looks like the effective clincher for me, though. A win and we have a lot of breathing space potentially. A defeat or draw and hings could be very tight.

I keep trying to work out under which circumstances I want the W Ham-Reading game to be a home win, away win or draw, but it just makes my head hurt.

I am coming home early from holiday to go to the reading Game,i sincerely hope that game will be the final act in confirming our promotion.

It is possible, but.....

Got a feeling at least one of Reading and Wham will drop points tomorrow. Wham also play in the week but when Wham and Reading meet next Saturday and one of them obviously drops points, we'll put everything into Blackpool and will be in an amazing position with 6 games to go.

All ifs and buts but we're the team thats playing the best football and I really believe that Reading & Wham will be fighting it out for 2nd soon.

obviously the most hoped for situation is that we were mathematically promoted at the pompey game and they were mathematically relegated but I don't believe that is probable or possible....shame really.
