patred44 Posted 22 March, 2012 Share Posted 22 March, 2012 Confirmed last night that Reading's Jason Roberts will be out for up to 5 weeks he certainly won't be back to face us.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 22 March, 2012 Share Posted 22 March, 2012 Confirmed last night that Reading's Jason Roberts will be out for up to 5 weeks he certainly won't be back to face us. But I believe they're about to sign Benik Afobe on loan from the Arse as a replacement.
Fan The Flames Posted 22 March, 2012 Share Posted 22 March, 2012 Good JR has been some sort of talisman for that lot.

Verbal Posted 22 March, 2012 Share Posted 22 March, 2012 I'd rather they keep winning to screw up West Ham personally. Saints will take care of themselves, but if Reading drop off I can see West Ham staggering over the line to second. I'd still rather have a race for the top two be of the two-horse variety. Much better for the nerves, and I honestly don't care who else goes up.
Mowgli Posted 22 March, 2012 Share Posted 22 March, 2012 He was key to their turnaround and with their run in - it does not look good for them on paper. still hope they get 2nd place though

Sheaf Saint Posted 22 March, 2012 Share Posted 22 March, 2012 He'll play against us I very much doubt it. Our game is only 3 weeks away and even if he does miraculously recover from a torn hamstring in that time and plays against us, I doubt he will be as effective as he has been during their recent run. trousers Posted 22 March, 2012 Share Posted 22 March, 2012 I don't know a huge amount about the Reading side as a whole but, to draw comparison, I assume them losing Roberts is akin to us losing Lambert?

RL in a few years time, RL is in the form of he's career where as JR is on the wane, still a very good footballer though, 5 in ten is good. However from what I've seen he has added experience and the younger guys always pull him into the goal celebrations. So he is probably a good influence on them and added to the spirit in the team that they obviously have. As a youngish side we don't have an equivalent. derry Posted 22 March, 2012 Share Posted 22 March, 2012 (edited) As a matter of interest, I think this came out of the Star. McDermott is as cagey as Adkins about injury information. He is having a scan tomorrow and they are saying that they thought they had caught it in time and that it wasn't too bad. I won't believe he is out for 5 weeks until Reading let it be known officially. Edited 22 March, 2012 by derry
bender Posted 22 March, 2012 Share Posted 22 March, 2012 For me we are going to power to the Prem with many games to spare. I'm certain Reading or Wham will now seriously lose form. In 2 or 3 games time we could be pretty much there bearing in mind both team need to eclipse us for us not to go up.

Agree, we've been here before last season and so far this season it's on course for a positive outcome. It would be great if BFS was reduced to take a chance through the play-offs. McDermott plays his cards close to his chest - unless this came from the player/agent, can't believe they would be so specific as 5 weeks is tantamount to saying JR won't play another game this regular season. If true will be a big loss- Afobe is another strong target man that is key to their brand of counter-attacking football; but doesn't bring the same level of control or composure as JR. Afobe, this is a guy who has not made a proper first team appearance for Arsenal (yet), has been out injured for 6 months and has just recovered and played a couple of reserve team games (and scored) and played half a season in League One. Not really sure how he can be a replacement for the hugely experienced Roberts.

Yep- would be surprised if he was their first choice but so late on into the season, I guess that's all they could muster. Didn't realise Afobe had been out so long with an injury; saw quite a bit of him at 'Udders last season and just can't see him making a difference. Not the greatest vote of confidence in the rest of the strikers either. Edited 22 March, 2012 by shurlock

Reading have been an improving side for much of the season. They were trouncing us at The Madjeskie and but for De Ridder's impact goal we would have lost. Like us, their teamwork is superb. Don't write Reading off.
