Ian the Red Posted 21 March, 2012 Share Posted 21 March, 2012 Looking at the games we, Reading and WHU have to play, I think that 4 wins will give us promotion, 5 wins, 90pts and possible the title. COYR Saints: Doncaster (H) Blackpool (A) Skates (H) Palace (A) Reading (H) Peterborough (A) Borro (A) Coventry (H) Reading Blackpool (H) WHU (A) Leeds (H) Brighton (A) Saints (A) Forrest (H) Palace (H) Birmingham (A) WHU Burnley (A) Peterborough (A) Reading (H) Barnsley (A) Birmingham (H) Brighton (H) Bristol (A) Leicester (A) Hull (H)
Winchester Red Posted 21 March, 2012 Share Posted 21 March, 2012 I was thinking that 3 of our last 4 games look tough and I'd like to see us get it done by then...... but then I looked at Reading's run-in. Jeez that's tough. 6 difficult games there!
The9 Posted 21 March, 2012 Share Posted 21 March, 2012 Mathematically at this moment we need 95 points (assuming a better GD) to win the title. West Ham can get 95, Reading can get 94. We need 92 points (w/ superior GD) to guarantee promotion - because Reading play West Ham and they can't both win (leaving WH max 92 and Reading's 91 depending on who loses, or 93 and 92 max if they draw). As it stands the best result for our promotion chances is for West Ham to beat Reading because then we'd only need to get 91 points, we'd need 92 if they drew (which we could still get even by losing to Reading). Best bit ? This is based on them winning every other match, so every single point Reading or West Ham drop will bring that total down. But as it stands, 6 wins 2 draws or better for the title, and 5 wins 2 draws for promotion.

farawaysaint Posted 21 March, 2012 Share Posted 21 March, 2012 shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh The difference between Saints and W-Ham fans. West Ham top the table for the first time: "wooo champions! Let's book a boat... No... Wait! 2 boats! " Saints top the table for almost all of the season: "Right... When are we going to feck this up?" Ian the Red Posted 22 March, 2012 Author Share Posted 22 March, 2012 Cant see Reading getting anymore than 85pts and WHU will have done well to get 18pts from their remaining 9 games. So IMO all we need is to reach 87 pts, so that'll be at Palace, so party time on Easter Monday!! COYR
Wiggles31 Posted 22 March, 2012 Share Posted 22 March, 2012 If we can beat Doncaster on Saturday then Blackpool away becomes a bit of a ‘bonus card’ game. With Wham and Reading playing each other at 3pm were going to have an opportunity to gain points on one/both when we kick off at 5.20pm and we’ll still be a good 3-5 points clear of 2nd or 3rd depending on their results. Obviously assuming we beat Donnie on Saturday.

Can only see west ham dropping points away to peterborough and Leicester, whilst perhaps sharing the spoils v reading at home! 89points total? With us, being conservative, I'd like to think we can get 14 points, leaving us also on 89! Reading, well, looking at their run in, lol they're screwed... angelman Posted 22 March, 2012 Share Posted 22 March, 2012 I thought that we might slip up at Hull. Having won that one, I am happier with our away form now. I think that the team is being well managed, and while others around us are having a wobble, we seem to be picking up form again. Hopefully that will continue to the end. The bookies certainly think so, as our odds are 1/3. On paper our home games only has Reading to cause a problem, but throw in a derby and the form book becomes irrelevant. Reading is tough, and if they lose to both us and WHU, I think that's that. All their games have a lot of importance for their opponents. Maybe Palace might not as they may be too far adrift for a play off place. Forest of course are trying to avoid relegation, and anyone who can put 7 past Leeds......! Shame that WHU don't have more home games. 3 of their away games are aganist opponents with nothing really to lose or gain. Maybe that allows them to play more freely, but I wouldn't want Reading, Brum, Leicester or Hull in my final lot.
saintstr1 Posted 22 March, 2012 Share Posted 22 March, 2012 I actually think our key game is this Saturday against Doncastor if we win that and keep the gap to Reading & Wham it really piles the pressure on the two of them for the following Saturday and IMHO whichever of them loose would be destined for third , We also will know that result before playing Blackpool where I think a draw would be a great result......................... But as I say Doncastor IS a must win

SaintJackoInHurworth Posted 22 March, 2012 Share Posted 22 March, 2012 I have posted this elsewhere (on the reaction to the Hull game thread) but thought it worth posting it here. The table shows my predictions for the three top teams in their final fixtures and their cumulative points after each match. At the top I have also indicated their current points score:

Saints 75 Reading 70 West Ham 68

Doncaster (H) Win 78 Blackpool (H) Win 73 Burnley (A) Draw 69

                    Peterboro (A) Draw 70

Blackpool (A) Lose 78 West Ham (A) Draw 74 Reading (H) Draw 71

Pompey (H) Win 81 Leeds (H) Win 77 Barnsley (A) Win 74

C.Palace (A) Draw 82 Brighton (A) Lose 77 Birmingham (H) Win 77

Reading (H) Draw 83 Saints (A) Draw 78 Brighton (H) Win 80

Peterboro (A) Draw 84 N.Forest (H) Win 81 Bristol City (A) Win 83

Middlesbro (A) Draw 85 C.Palace (H) Win 84 Leicester City (A) Draw 84

Coventry City (H) Win 88 Birmingham (A) Draw 85 Hull City (H) Win 87

I have been a little pessimistic for the Saints results (I certainly hope that we can beat M'bro as I am going to that match and rather hoping it will be a bit of a promotion/champions party!) Nevertheless, despite my pessimistic forecasts, these results would still place Saints top with West Ham second and Reading third.

saintneilo84 Posted 22 March, 2012 Share Posted 22 March, 2012 IMO if we beat Reading we will get promoted not going to be easy but can't see Reading winning the remaining of their games especially as they have to play both us and WH I think 5 wins out of the last 8 has us as champions. Still think West Ham will beat them though.

SaintBobby Posted 23 March, 2012 Share Posted 23 March, 2012 My (slightly pessimistic) predictions had West Ham finishing on 88 points, us on 87 and Reading on 80. I had us winning our home games vs the bottom three and drawing our game v Reading. On the road, I had us losing to Blackpool and Boro and drawing with Posh and Palace.
