Doncaster build up thread

Tbh, can't even see Sharp being in the squad for this one. Can see Adkins saying his mind won't be in the right place or something similar. Might even be some form of "gentlemans agreement" between Saints and Donny that he doesnt play against them.

However saying that, this maybe the game to really kick start his saints career. He would really love to score against his old club and will want to score so that he will get a prolonged run in the team.

Overall, SHOULD be comfortable, Saints to win 3-0. Would it be too ambitious to say Lambert hat trick?!

Given likely injuries/gentlemens's agreements. My team:

------------ Lambert -----------------------

----------------------- De Ridder ----------

Lallana ---- Cork ----- Schneiderlin -- Chaplow

Fox ------ Hooiveld ---- Fonte ---- Richardson

----------------- Davis ----------------------

Incidentally, Donny are the only other team left in the league, after Leicester and Bristol City, who can do the double over us.

As someone said should be a high gate with it being linked to the skates game. Im going for 26,500. Would like to see SDR start. Keep Cork and Morgan in the middle. 3 more please Saints. 3-0 Lambert (x2), Fonte

Adkins will have feet firmly on the ground as he has done all season, although Donny lost at home to Millwall last night they are not a bad side they have a couple of players who could be match winners so they will be up for it, having said that I can't see past a home win.

Indeed. I booked some tickets on Monday via the Online Booking system and it took several attempts to find a block with empty seats.

Our away form is surprising and tremendous at the moment, but our last home game was a draw. (I was there against Ipswich, I blame myself for not winning that.) Let's get the home form 100% for the rest of the season. No disrespect to Doncaster, who've had a few good results lately, especially against Wet Sham, but we really should be beating their likes at home in front of our own crowd. I think we will.

Thumping win please, with a scintillating performance that will make the other two soil their undies.

trouble with Doncaster is that lot of their players are on short term contracts until the end of the season and as they're more than likely to go down I can't really see that they have much motivation.Didn't they get hammered at home again last night?

yep...and west ham hammered them 1-1.

any team that has simon gillet in the middle is not that good...they are a treat up front..but then so are any team at this level

I doubt the gentleman's agreement personally, but I can see Adkins not playing Sharp nonetheless. I disagree with a later poster - Sharp will not want to score against his old club. All the emotions around his baby, and the support he received from Donny fans and staff at that time etc, will make him very reluctant to be the person who helps relegates them.

Still we need to make sure, if we score within the first ten minutes they'll probably fold completely, apparently that's what happened to them last night.I'm sure Nigel will know that.

Perhaps Chung will be back for Saturday, he won't give a sh*t about relegating Doncaster, probably never even heard of the place.

I'm sure we will win, we won't "brush them aside" like many will expect and people will post how were were not that good......this part of the season, the result is all that matters...we have more than shown we can mix up with some fancy football..now it is all about the result...get it to ricky as he is more than likely going to score.

with july and lallana paying off him, we have some real goal scorers there...throw in lee and maybe sharp, it is hard to see how any team can keep us out at the min

as long as guly is not stuck on the right wing

His last blog entry said he would only be out a week, so wouldnt be surprised if he features in some way or form on Saturday.

I understand the sentiment, but he's a professional. He's not going to go out there and play sh!t on purpose just because he used to play for them. If he does get the nod he'll be desperate to bang in a few goals. Personally, I think its the perfect game for him - he was at Doncaster for a while so will know what their defence is all about first hand.

Davis

Richardson - Fonte - Jos - Fox

SDR - Morgan - Cork - Lallana

Lambo - Sharp

Martin, Puncheon, Lee, Hammond, Chaplow.

3-1 Saints, Sharp hat trick.

i would freshen up it again just to keep everyone on there toes plus chance to rest some players in prep for what is going to be a relentless run in. that said i will always be nervous in resting our "spine" players as i feel they are pivotal to the way we control the game and set the tempo. de ridder deserves a start but we know and more importantly nige knows he is far more effective coming off the bench.

i would go with

davis

frazer fonte jos harding

chaplow cork morgan lallana

lambert lee

subs

martin

hammond

de ridder

sharp

connolly/puncheon

This really is a must win. I know thats a bad saying, but we need to ensure we win at least 3 of our remaining home games, because on paper our remaining 4 aways are all very tough, all against teams looking to get in the play-offs and who are good at home. If Iwas offered it now I would take 4 points from our away games, but that leaves us needing 3 wins at least at home and even then it would be squeaky bum time.

After lastnight's showing, there really can't be a single decent argument in favour of starting Puncheon ahead of De Ridder. Punch was so one-dimensional and gave the ball away so much we may as well have been playing with 10 men. As soon as De Ridder came on and moved to the right, he started to cause their defence all sorts of problems. I know Adkins likes to use him as an impact sub, but given his recent performances from the bench I really feel it's time to give him a start because I reckon he could tear a new one out of the Donny defence.

I'm confident. We're winning when not at our best, sometimes even winning comfortably. The players have belief and give everything. Watching our 2 centre halves bursting into the box and creating a goal away at a top 6 side will tell you that.

I think this weekend Nigel will show Big Fat Sam how to set up a team to be positive and win a game in a 'should win' game. Usually that involves more than 1 striker, and getting the ball to attacking midfielders and creative players. (Side thought - have they got any?)

And we'll get behind the lads as we always do and show the West Ham fans how to support a football team instead of booing every misplaced pass.

I can't wait. Saturday + home + 3pm + plenty of beer = home win.

I believe!

Also struggled getting tickets for this one, very very limited seats on monday - will easily sell out IMO.

Will be tough though. I hope people aren't expecting a precession because it simply will not be like that.

Donny will play for a point, pack the midfield and stop us expressing ourselves. They did the same against Reading and WHU and it gave them some pretty big points.

Let's hope donny aren't the party poopers in this promotion race for all teams..

Phoned up hour ago. No tickets together for me and young nipper from blocks 15 to 28. Eventually got two together in the Itchen / Chapel corner but into the double letters. Ticket guy said this will sell out....but we've heard that before !! However can't see Donny bringing more than 500-600 so large Northam allocation?

Chaplow needs another run out as he was not in the squad last night -still unfit? Didnt look right yet at Millwall.

Weird after saturday; only one game in 14 days; then 4 games in 10 days!! Time to go flat out then recharge for the defining period.

Nearly a sell out according to the man working in the Ticket Office today, however Pompey no where near a sell out!!!!!

May seem weird at first that doncaster may outsell Portsmouth, but I think a lot of take it or leave it' fans don't want to know about the Portsmouth game. The confrontational atmosphere that some find really exciting, others find just plain unpleasant. I'll be there, as a season ticket holder, but if I were more of a casual fan faced with all the barriers to buying a ticket, and remebering all that damn silly fence-rattling last time .....

This is the sort of game that long suffering fans dread. On paper we should walk it, in reality Saints - as only Saints can - often go belly-up.

It would be nice if they could break this habit and actually turn in a diamond-studded performance as befits leaders against the bottom team and win by 6 or 7-0

Please just for once, 3 for Rickie, 3 for Lallana and 2 for Guly

What? That's 8? OK, 8-0 will do.

Apparently Gillet had a very good game against the Hammers so wouldnt be suprised to see him put in a decent shift against us.Tecnically they are not bad in the middle of the park and up front but defensively they are woeful. If we score early it could be a cricket score, but if we dont then a grind out result with plenty of patience will be neccesary.

yep...and west ham hammered them 1-1.
