I honestly never thought I'd see the day where we're this close. We're still not there yet but how good has it been so far?!

I still predict heart brake for us as thats what I've grown to expect from Saints.

I agree. One of the three of us is going to be devastated come the end of April, I'm just praying it's not us.

I find it absolutely impossible to disagree with you. Throughout the year i've tried desperately to keep my expectations in check and not 'believe' as it'll only hurt 10 times worse when they eventually do blow it. Even 6 weeks ago, I never expected us to be in this position. Even now, in this position, i can't bring myself to say we're going up. I was singing it at the Den after the FT whistle on Saturday, but i still didn't quite believe it. At the end of the day, this is Saints. Over the past 20 years i've learnt to always prepare myself for an inevitable last-minute car crash when it comes to Saints. This year is no different.

They never have specific examples do they. 'they've had penalties, they've cheated'. Surely it's the opposition cheating in their attempts top stop us in the box?

We've been denied loads of penalties. The only dodgy one I can think of was Fonte, but he was outside the box and didn't even ask for a penalty! No-one debated that it was a foul.

How many penalties have we had this season?? anyone know?

West Ham have had at least 7 as Noble has scored everyone of them.

To be in this position at the end of March is a dream. I still think we'll finish third and faulter in the play-offs but considering how our profile has risen and how respected we now are we can only look forward to a strong near-future. I wouldn't want anyone other then Nigel Adkins in charge right now, he will keep the player's feet on the ground and motivated when up against this kind of praise and expectation.

Whatever happens in the next 6 weeks it's been a truly wonderful year.

9 for 2 against in the league.

Mainly because we put pressure on sides until they crack I expect.we have 3 or 4 of the highest scorers in the league in our side,

they get fouled in the box and we get penalties.

So we have had a massive 2 pens difference....that is if Noble has taken them all which I couldn't find out

only that he had scored all 7 he has taken.

Just as well we are cheating then.

Not to mention some of the exceptionally fortunate goals West Ham have got, not least their own winner against Millwall when the 'wall keeper was completely taken out and the ref didn't give it. It happens to us all, for and against, they need to man up and get on with it.

I presume you thought exactly the same thing last year when Hudds were breathing down our necks? Hudds pushed us EVEN closer than WH and Reading are doing and we still made it. I think/hope (touch wood) that the current team are made of sterner stuff.

The Saints of old wouldn't have beaten Leeds or clawed it back at Millwall in such dramatic fashion.

Believe. We can do this.

I never thought I'd see the day when opposing fans are talking about us buying off refs. Desperation or what?

the thickos should understand, the most attacking team in the division, getting in to the most attacking positions is always likely to attract the highest amount of penalty claims?

if we were the least scoring team in the division it would make sense if we had the least amount of pens but for the highest scoring team in the league. surely it shouldnt come as a surprise...

envious idiots.

e.g last season, the top 4 teams scoring the highest number of pens, also finished in the top 5 positions in the table?

Reading:13

QPR:12

Swansea City:12

Norwich City:9

chance...?

not really, law of averages suggest it is to be expected.

Just like Manchester United over the past 20 or so years. Now we know what it's like to be on the end of this nonsense.

Those 9 penalties have come in 6 games, so in effect have only affected the outcome of those games.

Just noticed 3 of the 7 goals put past Watford were penalties, ouch.

West Hams penalties have been in 6 games and have affected the points in maybe 5 of them, ie they won the game by the odd goal or drew (against us at their place). They only beat the Skates, at Nottarf Krap, by the 1 goal which was (you guessed it) a penalty

This squad and manager are battle hardened and have been there before. One game at a time never mind the others. Points are going to be dropped by all the teams including us and provided we react positively it will be no big deal. Adkins is experienced at promotions and won't duck the challenge. We are on a good run of results and are capable of keeping it going. It's the anticipation and thinking of the consequences in advance that kills you. It's one tiny step at a time and control the controllables, Adkins will do that. I'm not so sure about the other teams.

After many decades of being a Saints fan I've found one of the toughest tasks in the last couple of years or so has been getting used to winning. Even when we were 4-0 up at Wembley with 5 or so minutes to go I was expecting a close finish. But after last season's fantastic display and what we have achieved this season, I now have complete confidence in the team and above all in NA. Even when we had our bad patch he managed to turn it around impressively. No game is easy in this division, we may well lose a few before the end of the season - but NA will see us promoted- in that, I have no doubts.

Thank you for this - very useful site. And I notice that whilst us and WHU have been awarded the most penalties, as one might expect, Coventry in third place are an interesting anomaly. As for Bristol - awarded 1, missed 1 ...
