Parking near ground question (happy to pay for Car Park place)

Hi,

I am bringing 2 youngish kids to their first game on Saturday, and don't want to walk them my normal 30 odd minute walk to the ground (normally i park along the avenue off the M3 and walk (best for easy exit))...

Is there any unofficial car parks nearer the ground that businesses open up (for a fiver or something) that i could be made aware off that could at least reduce the walk by 15 mins or so) , it they were on the M3/M27 side of the ground that would be great...

Would happily get there bit earlier if parking limited (1.30pm ish)...

Thanks for any help...

Mike

Cemex, about 300 yards from the ground, charges £5 to park there during the game.

Actually not sure its Cemex, its definitely a company carpark alongside the river in top right of that link map /picture. Pay the guy on the gate. Entrance off the mini roundabout at junction of Chapel road/ Marine parade and Elm Street.

Quite a few choices really.

Gunwharf Quay is one, although it might take ages to get out.

The Hi Q garage on Northam Road (for a few quid extra they will clean your car while you're at the game)

There's a car park under the Itchen Bridge which you can get to if you arrive early enough.

Ocean Village.

By the King Alfred pub is another car park (it's tiny though so you'd be lucky to get in it)

There's a small, and relatively cheap, pay and display car park at the corner of millbank street and prince's street. Doesn't nomally fill up till gone 2 , but if you want to be absolutely certain of a place I'd be there earlier. If you're realy unlucky and it is full , there are several private car parks along millbank road towards the ground mostly charging £5 , or the official Saints one opposite the garage which is mostly for parking season ticket holders but lets in reasonably early 'casuals' for £10. You can't get much closer than that!

We always use to park at Crosshouse Quay I think it's called, past SMS down to the Chapel Arms turn left at the roundabout and just before you go under the Itchen Bridge turn left. Normally spaces just after 1pm and a short walk. We always went there when my kids were little. For a little queuing after the game you can go over the Itchen bridge (50p) and out to the M27 via Woolston fairly easily.

Mike, The best place taking kids would be the P&D car park behind the shops/market in St Marys Street, £2.30 for up to 3 hours. Or on the top of East Street shopping centre, both are 10/15 minutes walk to the ground depending on where your seats are of course. Graham.

I also come in from the M3 and down the A33. In the premier league days (when traffic was a little busier getting out of Southampton than it is now) I also used to park off the Avenue (at the Common) and walk the 30 minutes to the ground.

But now I drive further in and park in the small outside car park just before the entrance to the NCP Charlotte Place car park. It's called Compton Walk Car Park - map here: http://en.parkopedia.co.uk/parking/carpark/compton_walk/so15/southampton/

It's a pay and display and costs £4.60 for 4 hours (IIRC). The NCP is considerably dearer (£10 quid for the same timeframe rings a bell).

There's also a synagogue / mosque at the rear of Compton Walk car park where they open up their car park for match days at a fiver a throw.

I usually get there just after 1pm (for a 3pm game) and have no trouble parking (yes, it's a tad early but I'd spend the extra half hour or so grabbing a pint at the King Alfred before the game than sitting in traffic and/or walking from further out.

I usually park at the East Street multi. Plenty of space, not expensive, no hassles, not pay and display so you dont have to race back to beat your ticket, and handy for the royal oak on the way back. Its a 15 minute walk, or 20 if you slip into the Standing Orders first;)

Park free in Wooston under the bridge, 20 min walk over the bridge inc great views of the ground

Yep, that's what I do when I'm driving down. The nipper and I love the walk over the bridge when the weather is good and the ships are in.

Heading out of the city by going up through Merry Oak and Bitterne to the Hedge End junction of the M27.

I always park around/near College Street, either in the car park itself or in the street spaces by the Solent Uni Halls of residence., costs about a fiver for the afternoon. Just nip over the new railway bridge and past the flats, through the industrial estate towards the Family End.

When driving anyway, I prefer to take the train after staying in Winchester if I don't need to get back to Coventry.

I park at a local business in St Mary's for free and have done for the whole time we've been at SMS. I don't have permission, but they are closed on a Saturday - so never had a problem despite the no parking / clamping in operation signs. I'm usually back to my car within 10 minutes.

Lol @ those who pay a £5+ each game to park

We pay more money but our consciences are clean. With cunning like that you would make a good Skate. ;)
