bug187 Posted 18 March, 2012 Posted 18 March, 2012 I mean, really???? I was almost offended!! Ok it's a bit further South right down the Coast but bloody hell! Definitely a different experience hanging out with the locals whent here aren'y any tourists about. Some right old nutters down there lol
miserableoldgit Posted 18 March, 2012 Posted 18 March, 2012 I remember Plymouth fans chanting "You Dirty Northern Bastards" at SMS 3 or 4 years ago. Sent from my HTC Desire S using Tapatalk
Colinjb Posted 18 March, 2012 Posted 18 March, 2012 Well, I hate being called a Northerner living in Coventry. It's not the North FFS.
FloridaMarlin Posted 18 March, 2012 Posted 18 March, 2012 They're probably confusing you with all the Londoners who have second homes down there. After all, London is north of Southampton. Besides, the Cornish are always jumping up and down about independence, so why not cut them adrift?
latter day saint Posted 18 March, 2012 Posted 18 March, 2012 Pretty sure we've sung it at Londoners? my mate shouts it at everyone, even at Eastleigh
dubai_phil Posted 18 March, 2012 Posted 18 March, 2012 Me & Eric shout it at all of you lot all the time...
dune Posted 18 March, 2012 Posted 18 March, 2012 Well, I hate being called a Northerner living in Coventry. It's not the North FFS. It is a sh/thole though.

Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 18 March, 2012 Posted 18 March, 2012 Well, I hate being called a Northerner living in Coventry. It's not the North FFS. Not the North? It's damn near in the Arctic Circle...
scotty Posted 18 March, 2012 Posted 18 March, 2012 Well, I hate being called a Northerner living in Coventry. It's not the North FFS. It is, compared to here. FFS indeed. Before the Leicester game at SMS, we were drinking in the Standing Orders, bumped into a lad from Coventry who revelled in the name of Micky Lambert Said he was loving all the attention at the games hahahaaa. He looked a bit like an ex squaddie if you know what I mean, told us he had come to Southampton 20 years ago for a visit, met a Southampton girl, married her and been here ever since. He was grateful for an excuse not to follow Coventry any more, cant say I blame him....
Sheaf Saint Posted 18 March, 2012 Posted 18 March, 2012 I remember going to an away game at Bristol City many years ago and cringing when a few of our lot started singing 'Southerners, southerners, southerners'.
Colinjb Posted 18 March, 2012 Posted 18 March, 2012 It is, compared to here. FFS indeed. On that logic I should start supporting France.
scotty Posted 18 March, 2012 Posted 18 March, 2012 On that logic I should start supporting France. When I was living in Stoke I considered that to be "north".
Colinjb Posted 18 March, 2012 Posted 18 March, 2012 When I was living in Stoke I considered that to be "north". I must have been here too long. :s For me, North is Yorkshire upwards.... now THOSE are northern monekys! I should know, I nearly married one.
scotty Posted 18 March, 2012 Posted 18 March, 2012 I must have been here too long. :s For me, North is Yorkshire upwards.... now THOSE are northern monekys! I should know, I nearly married one. Ah, I went farther south than that and married an Italian. She's from Naples, and they cant stand the northerners from Milan/Turin etc.....its the same the world over

(All credit to the book, "A Season with Verona" for that one.)
John Boy Saint Posted 19 March, 2012 Posted 19 March, 2012 Anything North of Winchester = North Oooh-errr better rename myself Northern JBS as I reside just outside Basingstoke, or does being born in Southampton give me absolution?
Golden Balls Posted 19 March, 2012 Posted 19 March, 2012 Oooh-errr better rename myself Northern JBS as I reside just outside Basingstoke, or does being born in Southampton give me absolution? Basingstoke is definately north. Depends what percentage of your life you've been there I guess.
norwaysaint Posted 19 March, 2012 Posted 19 March, 2012 Nah, the only northerner on here is that bloke who lives in Tromsø. That's north, the rest of you are all southerners.
CB Saint Posted 19 March, 2012 Posted 19 March, 2012 Oooh-errr better rename myself Northern JBS as I reside just outside Basingstoke, or does being born in Southampton give me absolution? Depends which part of the southampton area you come from. Romsey? - definately a Northerner, Basset ? - pushing your luck but probably OK
View From The Top Posted 19 March, 2012 Posted 19 March, 2012 Midlands start at A34/M3 and the North starts at the M4. Anything north of M6 J15 is "The Grim North".
View From The Top Posted 19 March, 2012 Posted 19 March, 2012 I think thats a Devon term. Think you may be correct.
Big Bad Bob Posted 19 March, 2012 Posted 19 March, 2012 They have a word for us. Emmets. Grockles IIRC. Think you may be correct. Emmets is Cornish for ants, 'cos the tourists swarm all over like ants! Grockles is used in the other parts of the West Country and here in deepest, darkest Daaarset!!
John Boy Saint Posted 20 March, 2012 Posted 20 March, 2012 Depends which part of the southampton area you come from. Romsey? - definately a Northerner, Basset ? - pushing your luck but probably OK The Mystical East = Bitterne! Although born up the General, I do have a bit of a complex that I might find 3 sixes one day as they knocked down the Maternity hospital where the grand event took place and made it a car park!
John Boy Saint Posted 20 March, 2012 Posted 20 March, 2012 Basingstoke is definately north. Depends what percentage of your life you've been there I guess. Certainly long enough to be considered an Expat................ Still Ampshoire mind!
St Jim Posted 20 March, 2012 Posted 20 March, 2012 Well, I hate being called a Northerner living in Coventry. It's not the North FFS. Yes it is - anyhting past the Watford Gap is north. I used to live there (Canley) in 1998/1999 and it was like living in a grim northern town with dwindling industries loads of filthy locals and funny accents. ......unless the place has changed of course.
