JustinR Posted 18 March, 2012 Share Posted 18 March, 2012 Just wanted to give credit to the ref yesterday. Hostile atmosphere, he was a sub referee after the first choice got injured (by a coin I think) Gave 2 penalties to the away side and got them both spot on. Even Kenny Jackett expressed his surprise that an away team was given 2 (what that's got to do with it I don't know)
Professor Posted 18 March, 2012 Share Posted 18 March, 2012 I didn't see Mr Jackett's comments but if he did suggest away teams should be limited to one penalty that would make for an interesting game. It would mean that once there had been a penalty against the home team for a foul in the area, all defenders could act like additional goalkeepers, punching and catching the ball. This would make home advantage really meaningful. Great idea Mr Jackett.
Chez Posted 18 March, 2012 Share Posted 18 March, 2012 Kenny Jacket normally comes across very well in interviews, but he must have been gutted to concede two pens so late on so perhaps he can be forgiven for his comments. After seeing them again a few times I'm sure he'll start looking at his own players rather than the officials.

So, a stupid thing to say, and I'm sure he didn't mean it quite as literally as we're interpreting it.

Legod Third Coming Posted 18 March, 2012 Share Posted 18 March, 2012 I thought that the ref had a good game before the ones were given. Agreed, thought all the official got most things right. Apart from when Sharp's feet were clipped on the edge of the box and he waved play on! As for Jackett, he must be gutted. They did a proper job on us and in truth deserved to win, at worst draw. Fair play to their lads. I actually felt for them on the whistle - especially the black lad on the edge of the area who just held his head in his hands, having worked his knackers off all afternoon. Window Cleaner Posted 18 March, 2012 Share Posted 18 March, 2012 Hostile atmosphere, he was a sub referee after the first choice got injured (by a coin I think) Seems to be a bit of confusion about this, the match reports seem to have the same ref at the start and at the end awarding the penalties. JustinR Posted 18 March, 2012 Author Share Posted 18 March, 2012 The ref was holding his face when he walked off, that's why I thought it may have been a coin. Maybe he did his hamstring and then got hit by a coin from the savages

No that was the fella up the other end (unless lino's change ends, genuine question??)...
Legod Third Coming Posted 18 March, 2012 Share Posted 18 March, 2012 got this right Superb picture and in which case both ref and lino did a superb job too. We were right behind that and I couldn't tell who it hit!
Dr Who? Posted 18 March, 2012 Share Posted 18 March, 2012 As a ref myself, it is hard to give 2 pens to one team, and that close together a team would only normally get one. But if it is a foul then of course the pens should be given. I get a lot of players saying that I am giving all the decisions the other way... Could that be because their team and fouling more? Stu Man Do Posted 18 March, 2012 Share Posted 18 March, 2012 got this right I wonder if a West Ham fan could spot this handball? Perhaps a novel idea for a thread on KUMB?! Almost as much of a non handball as the non hand round Sharps throat the other month! ;-)

He certainly wasn't hit in the face by a coin.

Don't really think the ref had any choice, we were turning the screw and they resorted to foul play. That's not the ref's fault is it. If referees applied the letter of the law according to football most games would have about 10 penalties for each side because refs just do not sanction holding and shirt pulling in the box as they should. You only have to skip through the gallery of match photos on the OS to see that. We will have to watch out next season though cos your average Prem ref will sanction a lot of the sh*t that Fonte pulls without batting an eyelid. The9 Posted 18 March, 2012 Share Posted 18 March, 2012 No that was the fella up the other end (unless lino's change ends, genuine question??)... It's up to the ref whether he wants the linos to change ends/sides at half time etc. They don't do it during the same half though !
Legod Third Coming Posted 18 March, 2012 Share Posted 18 March, 2012 If they do, they certainly don't change ends in the same half of football! No, but the girl was in 'our' half and the decision where Kelvin was outside the box happened at the other end in the second half. If that makes sense! If that makes sense! Makes sense, I'd assumed it was the same half from the previous comment. Sometimes at half time the linos change ends, sometimes sides of the pitch, depends on the ref's preference, as long as they do opposite halves and the ref has his diagonal it's not an issue. Bit dubious to have the same lino for the same team's attackers in both halves, but I *think* there's nothing preventing it, given that the laws assume all officials are impartial anyway. kpturner Posted 18 March, 2012 Share Posted 18 March, 2012 Even Kenny Jackett expressed his surprise that an away team was given 2 (what that's got to do with it I don't know)If you are sad enough to listen to a full interview with Kenny Jacket on the Millwall equivalent of Saints Player (yes, I am that sad) then you can hear him expand on this theory. He attributes this rare occurrence to the benefit of having 2500 baying away fans in the referee's ear for both offences. So, credit to the fans and their numbers for that. If a ref has an inkling that an offence has been committed and he gets it confirmed by 2500 people bellowing in his ear, he is going to give it 99 times out of 100.
