Southampton and Derby County are tracking Everton striker Conor McAleny, 19, who made his first-team debut at Arsenal in December.

He is available on a free transfer at the end of the season after failing to agree new terms with the Merseysiders.

I've personally never heard of him...

... and us or Derby would be prepared to pay more in wages than Everton??

What are we doing looking at 19 year old strikers FFS.

We have 5 strikers on the books as it is.

We just loaned out a 19 year old striker.

If Everton of al people (who have no money) don't want him then he is obviously not PL quality. He must be rubbish.

Was that the sort of thing you wanted David?

.....and I don't think you will . Not at least until the end of the season.

Which is a bit normal really, if we get promotion everything will change but if we stay in the NPC then we'll be looking at cutting the salarial mass a bit because it must be at a nigh on unsustainable level for an NPC club now.

well I wasn't expecting a response so quickly, but whether the story has any credence or not, the fact that he's ambitious enough to refuse a contract

and that Everton are " broke" really amounts to the same thing - doesn't it ? Any money they can raise will be needed to fund their next overseas buy.

As I've commented before, the "post Academy period" is the real crunch for our youngsters - when they stop playing schoolboys and come into the man's world. I expect a monumental clearout of the Academy in the summer, partly if we don't go up, and certainly a lot - if we do.

we have a goodly number of U21 players out on loan at present; Jack Dovey, Harlee Dean, Ryan Doble, Sam Hoskins, Ben Reeves plus of course Lee Holmes, Jonno Forte and Ryan Dickson. I don't expect more than a couple of them to stay beyond the summer..I wonder which decade Tommy Fourpast's contract goes out ? There hasn't been much emerging talent since Alex OC's departure and only Ward-Prowse looks good enough to retain.

The newest crop; Stephens, Shaw, Sinclair and Chambers are still too young - but I don't think that we would ignore someone else in that age group - if he were suitable. But I agree with the idea that this look like an " agent's invitation " and a win-win situation for the player.
