Would have thought he would stay at Newcastle unless his wage demands are silly. Seems to be a fairly regular player for them when fit.

Good shout though. With him, Chaplow and Cork we'd have a half decent collection of ex. loan players.

Has only played 13 league games, not sure if it's injury that's kept him out over the foreign legion that has been bought this season.

He'd behind cabaye and tiote in the pecking order but would still be a decent signing , especially on a free

Great signing if we don't go up. Not so sure about it we do. Think we can do better. I'd want a really top quality CM to compliment Morgan and Cork.

Depends what you mean by 'top quality', If we go up hed be a great signing, hed be free and hes premier league standard, the players wed be looking to buy will be the same as the norwich model e.g best players in the championship.

Guthrie always looks a bit fat to me. I think he likes a sandwich.

Not the right type of hungry and young we need. Hes probably on 25k a week to boot.

Not convinced......

How many other ex-loanees have we signed after they had gone elsewhere? Jack Cork of course, but who else.

We didn't really bring many players in on loan until the relegation year from the premier league.

Of the top of my head I can only think of one other and that is Andrew Davies from Middlesbrough..and now look at him.

Out of contract at the end of the season.

I mentioned him a few weeks ago - certainly the KIND of player we should be looking at, and in that position. I wasn't all that impressed with him last time around, though his energy was good, he moved the ball on quickly and injecting tempo into the game, and his passing accuracy seems to have improved.

Saganowski?

Yeah forgot he was on loan originally, and the most recent loans we've bought lately have been Guly and the Hoover.
Ahh, but we are trying to find loanees who then went elsewhere, then came back again permanently - so Guly and Hooivelt don't count. Cork, Chaplow and Saganowski do count. Sorry Chris - highjacked your thread with a sub-plot.

Andrew Davies was signed 2 years after we got relegated, unless I've missunderstood the question. He also didn't go somewhere else in between, unlike Cork and Chaplow. Hooiveld, Guly, Saganowski, Wright, Rasiak and Perry are the only others I can think of we signed permanently.

Re Guthrie I should imagine his wages demands are pretty huge. If we are after a CM then Jordan Mutch offers the quality.

The bloke from Zonal Marking certainly has an opinion on it - albeit this is against Arsenal away where you might also find Cork and Schneiderlin struggling. Pretty interesting video showing the pivot between Tiote and Cabaye, and how it didn't really work with Guthrie in there :
