AussieDog Posted 15 March, 2012 Share Posted 15 March, 2012 Received an email from SFC hospitality today which immediately put my back up. I probably shouldn't have risen to the bait but it seemed a bit suspect and "Big Brother" like to me. Is this normal ( Thank you for constant support for Southampton Football Club You have book hospitality for the Saints Vs Doncaster Rovers game on Saturday 24th March 2012. For Health and Safety reasons please could you supply me with you guest list please. Once again thank you for your custom and we will look forward to seeing you on Saturday 24th March 2012 If you have any other enquires please don’t hesitate to contact Corporate Sales on 02380727765 Many Thanks ************ Corporate Sales Southampton Football Club DDI: 02380727765 Glenn ****** ✆ 21:33 (29 minutes ago) to Hospitality01 Please clarify what health and safety reasons are requiring guest names at this time? Regards Glenn ****** Hospitality01 ✆ 21:38 (24 minutes ago) Hello Glenn, Thank you for your email. We request from the guest to send there names of there guests in so we know how many people will be in the building at the time, and if there is any reason for a evacuation we know the guests names so we can make sure everyone is present. Kind Regards *********** Corporate Sales Southampton Football Club DDI: 02380727765 From: Glenn ****** [mailto:******.glenn@gmail.com] Sent: 15 March 2012 11:34 To: Hospitality01 Subject: Re: Guest List Glenn ****** ✆ 21:59 (3 minutes ago) to Hospitality01 Hello ****, Thank you for the swift response, Whilst I have no problem in providing names for this particular match, I have to say your reasoning (along with your grammar!) are very suspect. Are you saying that hospitality guests are more important than the other 20,000+ supporters in the rest of the ground? In this instance I can confirm that the 4 people attending (assuming our flights from Australia don't get delayed) are :- Glenn ****** Michelle ****** Jaimee ****** Taylah ****** However, I reserve the right to change these names at any time prior to our entrance to St Mary's Stadium. Horley CTFC Saint Posted 15 March, 2012 Share Posted 15 March, 2012 Would imagine driven by the HSE given this is a sporting venue. H&S over here is much more high profile than in most countries partly as a result in the growth in the claims culture within the UK
leehoudini Posted 15 March, 2012 Share Posted 15 March, 2012 Not really sure why the Club's stance would bother you? Doesn't it reassure you that the club know who is in the lounges at any given time?
B Rabbit Posted 15 March, 2012 Share Posted 15 March, 2012 Maybe that person writing you the email is very dyslexic? The people inside the building will use completely different exits to the people inside the stadium...the fire exits around the bowl will be designed to cater for mass exit...plus, you're already outside and that's the important thing when exiting from fire. That said...evacuation should be catered for for maximum number of guests anyway. so all they're asking for is names for a register to check no one is burning to death inside =) No need to be such a cu/\t =)

Saint_clark Posted 15 March, 2012 Share Posted 15 March, 2012 Another reason (although they wouldn't want to say this to you) would also be to check that nobody with a banning order is entering the ground, I'd imagine. The person responding to the corporate sales emails should be sacked. Embarrassing English. It is stunningly bad. Surely every piece of software that allows you to type has an in built spell checker nowadays?
B Rabbit Posted 15 March, 2012 Share Posted 15 March, 2012 The person responding to the corporate sales emails should be sacked. Embarrassing English. This is also an interesting point...being that it's the direct contact with people with lots of £££ you would hope somebody who could write a coherent email would be a given. That said...people with lots of money can't necessarily construct a sentence either

It is stunningly bad. Surely every piece of software that allows you to type has an in built spell checker nowadays? True, unless they're just responding via some sort of web-form. TBH even if they have reasons for their bad English, they really shouldn't have been given a job responding to emails to people who fork out a serious amount of $$$$. It makes the club look very amateur.
hutch Posted 15 March, 2012 Share Posted 15 March, 2012 Unless things have changed since I was there last, you need a ticket for hospitality, so they know how many are in the building. Unless you can only use the fire escapes in alphabetical order, it's not a safety issue.
VectisSaint Posted 15 March, 2012 Share Posted 15 March, 2012 Seems like a completely reasonable request to me. Because of the nature of the hospitality suites evacuations due to fire etc (other than during the actual match) are completely different to those actually seated within the stadium. As well as that they are trying to make sure that you are not bringing John Westwood with you, since he is a health and safety hazard.

The9 Posted 15 March, 2012 Share Posted 15 March, 2012 (edited) "We request from the guest to send there names of there guests" I'd sack them based on this sentence alone. I am also more bothered by that than any corporate H&S requests. For the record, they also have a table plan as you walk in, so having names on that makes the whole thing slightly more pleasant. BARCELONASAINT Posted 15 March, 2012 Share Posted 15 March, 2012 personally i can not see a problem with wanting to know who is going to be in the building be it health and safety or anything else. However the club could do with employing someone that can use a computer!

kpturner Posted 15 March, 2012 Share Posted 15 March, 2012 To be honest, if they had emailed me and said "For Health and Safety reasons please could you supply me with you guest list please." I think I would have just given them my guest list and that would be that.....albeit being slightly annoyed at the fact that they said "please" twice. However, I also get annoyed when shop assistants say "PIN number" - I am getting therapy for that.

Redondo Saint Posted 15 March, 2012 Share Posted 15 March, 2012 I really don't get what your problem is! I had the same question asked to me for the Barnsley game and did not think for asecond that it was a strange thing to ask. In fact it makes a lot of sense particularly if your group do not arrive at the same time. You need to stop thinking the world is against you! In fact it makes a lot of sense particularly if your group do not arrive at the same time. You need to stop thinking the world is against you! I can see the problem with it. The problem is bullsh!t and the fact the OP hates being lied to. It happens all the time, people don't really know the reason behind something so they just make one up and 99% of the population just say, ok then. This winds me up as well. Without putting words into the OP's mouth, I think that if they had said, "we just need the names for the table planners and also because there is a security benefit to knowing who is in hospitality. Don't worry if you need to change the names of your guests before hand, just let us know". I think he would have been fine. It is when someone gives a broad statement like 'Elf and safety mate' that your are entitled to ask why. As for the their, there they're thing, it seems that it is obligatory to not understand this, to get a job in football. Anyone who uses twitter and follows footballers will testify to this.
