Title Run-in...

Pointless looking ahead.

Would rather take each game as it comes, football changes thick and fast. We could have Lambo, Lallana, Jos, Kelv all get injured for the season vs Milwall, how is the run in then?

Well said that man. I'm a (financial) analyst, I love analysing trends and all, but ....... let's just take it a game at a time. Anything can happen to anyone. Time will tell.

Trust me on this one losing Va Tez is a big blow!!

Not sure if that's a blow, I think he's utter tosh personally. Lots of running and pace, but very little end product.

This will now force them to bring either Baldock or Cole back into the fold, and they will be much more potent up top.

No they dont they also have only 4 all their games in hand including the recent doncaster game are away.

They dont have any games in hand.

All 3 of us have 6 away games left. Wham have 5 home games and Reading & us have 4.

I've said all along we wuld get promoted and I'm not going to change my mind now. We have 5 of the bottom 7 teams, you have got to fancy our chances.

Except that we have a terrible record against bottom teams - Bristol City anyone? Doncaster Rovers anyone?

Here are all 3's fixtures. Is anyone else a little narked that weve only got 2 days rest between our 2 easter games.

Not really, because the team we're playing at the end of that week have a day less rest than Saints do before travelling to play us.

LOL @Reading having to play us, West Ham, Birmingham and Brighton away. Then again, Hull, Blackpool and Middlesbrough... :o

We all have Peterborough Away as well, strange.

and then reading. So 7 days for 3 games. That is not going to be easy and due to players being tired could give Reading a boost.

Not drastically different from Reading, who have three games in eight days ( two in the space of four days, both away).

Actually I don't accept all this grizzling over too many games at Easter. In the good old days, there would be games on Good Friday, Saturday and Easter Monday, this last one might sometimes stretch to a Tuesday fixture. Our routine - as I think it was during our 1978 promotion year - often Plymouth, Bristol and Cardiff .

Southampton striker Rickie Lambert says side can handle pressure

Southampton striker Rickie Lambert says the Championship leaders can handle the pressure of chasing Premier League promotion, as they enter the run in.

The 30-year-old has scored 25 goals in 39 appearances for Saints this season, including three hat-tricks.

With 10 games to go leaders Saints are two points clear of Reading.

"We are thriving on the pressure, there is a lot of expectation on us to get promoted but we can handle it," Lambert told BBC Radio Solent.

Lambert, who on Sunday was voted Football League Player of the Year, added: "Each game is getting more intense and more exciting. “The pressure will be on, but we've handled that all season. We've got the confidence to take that into the last 10 games”

"I'm loving it and I think the players are loving it.

"It was the same last season and we thrived on that pressure and hopefully we can do the same this season."

Southampton were promoted from League One last campaign and are favourites to go up for a second successive season.

But with games to come against promotion-rivals Hull, Reading, Middlesbrough and Blackpool as well as a derby match against Portsmouth, Lambert knows there is still a long way to go.

"There are 10 games to go and if you have a good run, it does not matter if you are not in the top two, you can still go up automatically," he said.

"Likewise if you have a bad run you can drop out.

"If we beat everyone else's form from here on we win the league. Simple as that.

"Obviously that is what we are hoping to do but we know we have got some hard teams in that run in.

"The pressure will be on, but we've handled that all season. We've got the confidence to take that into the last 10 games."

After a mini blip Saints seem to have rediscovered their early-season form and have been rejuvenated by the arrival of Japanese striker Tadanari Lee.

And Lambert admits the 26-year-old has had a big impact since his arrival from Sanfrecce Hiroshima.

"Tadanari is brilliant and he has done really well since he came in," said Lambert.

"It must have been very hard for him to come over from Japan and settle in.

"But he has taken to English football brilliantly and the fans seem to have really taken to him.

"Some partnerships take time, we don't speak the same language but he does have an interpreter and he is never shy to ask questions."

I think that last season's experience will be the key to promotion.

Yeah I agree. Reading remind me very much so of Huddersfield. Our players have experienced the pressure of holding a top 2 spot unlike Reading and West Ham most recently.

I thought it was the other way around last season - with us reeling Hudders in over the Feb/Mar/Apr ? Or am I going senile? Dont answer that.

We still had a way to go after we overtook Huddersfield, and kept our heads all the way. I guess that's what he's getting at.

But I don't think that is true is it? We didn't go above them until we finished our 43rd match (on goal difference) - so there were only three games to go for us, and two for Hudders.

Ignore that.....I am going to have to find out when it was now to satisfy my own curiosity. Edited by kpturner

and dont forget last season there were 3 teams (posh, Huds & us) going for one promotion spot. Brighton already had the top spot sewn up. This season there are 3 going for two.

Saints and Reading both have only 4 home but 6 away games each.

Reading's away games are (on paper) toughest; Brum, Brighton, West Ham and SAINTS.

West Ham have 5 home games but all are against teams fighting for a play-off spot; Midd.boro, Reading, Brum, Brighton and Hull.

Saints play Reading at home- but the other three homes are against the bottom three; Doncaster, Coventry and POMPEY.

All three teams above must visit Peterboro' who are my outsider tip for relegation.

It's disappointing that Reading and Southampton won again but that's not in our control is it? I was pleased Reading scored four in the one game actually. That was a waste and unnecessary. As it turned out one would have been enough so what's the point in netting another three? We talk a lot on the training field about doing what's necessary. Reading could regret using up four goals in the one game if the next match ends up 0-0 or 1-1. Like we did after the Blackpool game. I warned the boys after that game that I didn't want us scoring unnecessary goals again. Every one should count. Goals are precious in football and shouldn't be chucked around like confetti at a wedding. If Reading are going to be that profligate, I can't see them staying the course."

As you were didn't read the thread in it's entirety and see that it's a spoof.

It is all swings and roundabouts as both reading and us have 9 to play and the hammers 10 more in the next 6 weeks

But at the end of the day the automatic promotion places will probably be decided by just 2 games with West Ham having the most to do. They have to beat Reading,if not then they're toast.

good point...west ham HAVE to win that now...got to the point where any result in that game is good now rather needing one of the teams to win

we simply have to avoid defeat to reading to stay above them
