How have we got here?

So basically, it is all thanks to Rupert then.

He did of course show us the way however, and the blueprint for success. ie he invented the academy, and then there was the radio staion and the catering *

* in a kind of "blessed are the cheesemakers" sort of way.

Serious and simple answer though, Markus Liebherr.

with able assists from Cortese and his two managers both of whom have contributed to varying degrees of attracting players ( AP deserves plaudits for Lambert, Fonte and persuading Lallana for stating at a L1 club), changing the mentality to a winning one and keeping 'the bus' storming forward.

My question is, who the hell was he supporting when we got relegated? And presumably he also supports Man City, so what happens when we're both on at the same time.

He has Sky+, so he can watch one and record the other. And we didn't have a billionaire owner when we got relegated. God only starts supporting a team when they get rich owners, hence why us and City are suddenly doing well. He's a bit of a glory hunter in that respect.

Nicola Cortese. He bought the investment to Liebherr.

Markus Liebherr, for wanting to invest. Though it was a no brainer really if you think about it. Lots of potential in us and we were going cheap. Though I do wonder whether he knew he was ill at the time he bought us?

Adkins, for promotion and finally giving us the stability and pazazz needed in our team.

The players, with a few particulars to pick out... i.e lambert lallana etc

This coming from a man who thinks an all powerful being sits in the sky supporting football teams...

Who said anything about God supporting football teams?

Ooh! Bet that's got you in a thinking quandary now?

Anyway I can see you too belong to the high iq element of our fan base, so il keep it short for your benefit.

If we don't go up this season it will be deemed a fail, based on our current position. That said it would still have been a fantastic season for a newly promoted club, we'd have been overjoyed at play-offs last summer and if you told me we'd be pushing for Premiership promotion in 2009 I'd have snapped your arm off. My biggest concern at not getting promoted would be which players we'd lose in the summer. But we have a resilience about us, and I think we can do it!

Are you out of your f**king mind ?

For me, its all about two men : Markus Liebherr and Nicola Cortese.

Nothing to do with the football manager then? Or all of his staff?

The whole ethos of "together as one" deserves a bit more than praise of just 2 men.

I think he was being sarcastic to be fair. Agree with you on the 2nd part, combined with the shrewd appointment of Adkins we have a great upper management team in place which has transferred itself down onto the playing side and eminated around the whole club

Great thread.

I agree with the OP, our success is directly attributable to Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Come on block, let's not get territorial lol, it's the One God, the same God Jesus used to pray to that is all ears for every grateful, thankful soul no matter what religion, race, colour or creed.

Funny how the slight mention of God sparks so much response...

Should've just thanked a pair of nuns tits!

Would've gone down a treat no doubt...

Dead right. ML, NC and God are the people to thank here!

Personally, I think the bulk of credit has to go to one man and one man alone...

Take a bow, Nicola Cortese!

Without him, we would have no attention of Marcus Liebherr, we would have no Nigel Pardew, no Nigel Adkins, no flash training facilities etc etc...

The one common denominator and who the buck ultimately stops with is him!

Just am so surprised at the amount of gas he gets on here, which then makes me wonder about how representative of our fan base, this place really is?

adkins, lambert, lallana, fonte, davis, crosby, wilkins.....?

Nah mate, the players don't like Adkins and don't respond to his business talk, Lamberts legs have gone and it fat and lazy, Lallana can't shoot, Fonte hasn't been anywhere near as good as his first season here, Davis can't command his area and what do Crosby and Wilkins do?

Fox is a waste of money, Tandoori Lee was a stupid risk to take, , Hooiveld is terrible because he couldn't get in the Celtic team, and Guly is **** because he's black. The unerring opinion of some of your fellow SainsWeb posters.

You've forgotten that Fox can't pass, Richardson is overrated, Jos can't even get into the Celtic team, Hammond and Morgan only pass sideways, Cork has had only 3 good games for us, Guly is a useless fat waste of space, Sharp is overweight, Lee is unproven and Connolly is dead.

It's certainly a surprise to me how we are 3 points clear at the top of the league....

And I couldn't get in there before The Kraken did!

Jesus, I forgot that I needed to explain in words of one syllable without joined-up writing for the likes of dullards like you (and TDD, who is seriously coming up the rails in the Complete Mong of the Site Steeplechase) ....

I didnt say our success wasnt anything to do with the manager or players. I am talking about who arrived on the scene, made the unthinkable possible, and caused everything to change by their arrival (including the bringing in of manager and players).

And for me, that's ML and NC, head-and-shoulders above anyone else.

I use to think you posted important comments, not only on the state of the club but also on the atmosphere and comportment of this site.

Nowadays you're just another faceless wally having digs, hounding people you dont like in the hope of settling scores, and spouting low-grade bovine fertilizer...

Leibherr's money, that's all that matters.

ML and NC were necessary conditions - without them, we probably wouldn't have survived at all.

But things could have gone a lot less well even with the buyout and strong overall management.

I'd give some considerable credit to Adkins and a fair sprinkling to Pardew.

The players have done a great job and our signings have been incredibly astute. None of Fonte, Hoovield, Fox, Chaplow or various others made me punch the air when we signed them, but all have enormously exceeded expectations. It's hard to think of a bad signing really. I'm mildly pro-Guly but wonder if he gets so much flak not for being black but because he's one of very few not to have performed enormously beyond what was initially anticipated.

If God is to be given credit for the great work of various people who have graced our club over the last few seasons, then it is only fair that God is also given credit for destroying Portsmouth football club and giving me lots of lolz in the process.

Cortese recognizing the potential in the club, selling the deal to Marcus, then bringing in Pardew who was the right manager at the time. He brought the basics of the team together, the change to Adkins appears to have been inspired. The infrastructure & building blocks that are being laid by NC will serve us long into the future. This along with all the players who have all bought into this project & got on-board the Bus with NC & NA.

As for God let his wrath fall upon Portsea Island. The definition of divine intervention.
