Pearce

Doubt we'd want him for top flight if we were there. Would he come here to be back up? No chance of a start with Jos and Fonte fit.

We might of course bring in another 'Dale Stephens' , give a player a chance to prove himself - whilst providing backup - and dispense with them if they don't appear to be able to cut it.

I would not be surprised if we bring another loan in , but doubt it will be Pearce somehow.

Breaking news on SSN. Pearce to be loaned to Saints with a view to permanent move in summer.

According to a pompey site havent seen it yet on SSN myself.

That typifies the wacky internet world and spread of unfounded rumour.

Skate puts a "wind up" on their site and within minutes it is hotly debated on here.

He's not very good.

Was good for Bournemouth in League Two, I saw him week in and week out, League One not too bad. Championship? Look at the way Lambert left him on his arse for the goal at Fratton. Comprehensively outmuscled.

Wouldn't want him here at all, especially when Fonte and Hooiveld are fit, healthy and racking up the clean sheets.

Bit in bold is the nub of it though isn't it ?

Not saying Pearce might or might not be the answer and you know more about him than me, but we probably need an extra body available for CB.

Yeah you do have a point. I'd like to think if we were to look for a centre half (and I believe 100% that it's a wind up, no question) then we'd be looking for much better than Jason Pearce. I also don't think the way our club works these days that we go in for short term loans. I could be wrong of course but I just don't see us doing it.

Bournemouth fans go on and on about how something like seven of their best players were taken away from them and they're suffering as a result. I don't think any one of those seven would get into our first team. Shwan Jalal, who's still there, was for me the best goalkeeper in League Two in their promotion season. Under Lee Bradbury in League One, he can't get a game.

He's a decent left sided centre back. Ideal cover for Jos.

Exactly why we should be looking at somebody like him. We have Martin as cover for Fonte on the right-side of CB, but neither Martin or Fonte are comfortable on the left-side of CB. Bringing in a younger CB who has clearly shown ability and potential seems a wise move, especially if the cost to us is minimal and he provides cover we don't have at the moment.

bit harsh to judge his Championship credentials based on one incident that the skates regard as a foul (and they might have half an arguement). I'd certainly be happy to take him on loan untill the end of the season. Weakens the skates further and gives us cover that, you never know we might just need. Jos and Fonte out injured for the last two games and we need 4 points for promotion anyone?

Mind you if we want a loan WBA seem more than willing. Perhaps we can grab Dawson off them.

Is he better than Fonte and Hooiveld? Without having seen him play, except for one game at Fratton I'd have said no. If we're serious about the Premier League, that's what we need to be asking. The only upside to a loan would be Pompey missing their best centre half for their visit in April.

Pretty trivial point anyway, I'm sure this is a wind up.

Even if it is a foul, Lambert has scored countless goals doing that, and a good defender should know what to do and how to deal with a threat like that. He didn't, he cost his side a goal. We played Watford at St. Mary's earlier this season and David Mirfin had the better of Lambert for most of the afternoon, and I don't imagine he's all that good, but still knows what he's doing when it comes to marking a good, powerful striker. As for 'weakening the skates', that is possibly the worst argument for buying a player I've ever heard. Who cares about them? As much as I don't like them, I'd rather focus on us getting promoted with quality players.

Cover? Martin is doing a fine job when called upon. I'm not saying our squad is perfect by any means but no, I wouldn't have Pearce here. He's also quite prone to being caught out of position, I saw that a fair few times in League Two, especially in October 2009 when Bournemouth got done 4 - 0 by Rochdale. That performance will stay in my memory for a long time.

If we want cover, and are serious about getting promoted and staying in the top flight, we need to be looking at better players than Jason Pearce.

you've clearly seen him more than I, so I bow down to your better knowledge of his as a player, but weakening the skates helps us as we have to play them and 3 points are 3 points. Martin may do OK when called upon, but he is very one footed and gets in trouble when he find himself down the left hand side needing to clear the ball with his swinger, so a left sided centre back as cover wouldn't do us any harm. It matters little as I can't imagine he'd be coming here.
