If we're in the Prem next season then this seems highly unlikely, unless we are playing them in some "tournament" in Thailand or something. Clubs don't really ever play teams in the same division in pre season on home soil, except for the community shield of course.

Arsenal used to love a cheeky tour of Austria and we have been in Switzerland the last two preseasons... somewhere on the border of both countries would suit me!

Why? Its not uncommon when a player is transferred from a big club to a small club (like Saints to Arsenal) (perhaps I should put that the other way round). I suspect that this was part of the agreement, but there are probably words in the contract that say something like "unless Southampton are promoted or Arsenal are relegated this season").
