Lambert-Why Was He Took Off!?!

We rely too much on Ricky Lambert and after playing virtually every game this season it should come as no surprise to see him struggle every now and then - as was the case today.

We have Billy Sharp now, and IMO we should use him to lift some of the burden off Sir Ricky's shoulders.

I see that Rickie Lambert was taken off near the end for Connolly or Sharp

so does anyone on here know why or was it as a Precaution!?!

Thanks!

COYR!!! :D

He was replaced by Cork actually. Apparently NA took him off because he felt he was able to give him a rest as it was a hot day for a big fella. In truth, he was playing very poorly, made 2 telling contributions to the game (assist for Lallana's 1st goal, and pass to Chung for the 2nd) but other than that, he touch and movement were appalling, just like on Tuesday. All players have poor games, but if SRL's name was Guly some of our so-called supporters would be having a field day.

Because he was crap today.

He was very very poor today (and he was on Tuesday as well), but he did make 2 vital contributions to the game, so people will overlook this. On the other hand some players will have decent games and will be crucified by some of our so-called supporters

So he was very very poor yet did two crucial things? Thats an oxymoron if ever I saw one. He was fine today, set up the first goal brilliantly and caused Barnsley no end of bother as they had 2/3 people marking him at all times. He wasn't up to his usual standards, but thats to be expected. But 'very very poor'...no, just no.

Didn't work for Lambert today. I thought Sharp looked good and hungry today when he got a run out.

Eh? Sharp did f*** all - can't wait for him to start playing for us. Lambert was great, laid off for a great goal from Lallana (thought Lallana would sky it as it was on the up bounce). Lambert sub surprised me, but can understand that we were 2 up so give him a rest.

He didn't have a great game tuesday tbh - touch of a rapist came to mind a few times today. We were cruising after the second, so it made sense.

The more relevant question is not why Lambert was subbed but Connolly was given the nod ahead of Sharp - today out of all days would have been a perfect opportunity to bed the lad in. Perhaps we should have loaned him out to Donny for the day instead ;)

He did **** all because he was only on for ten minutes and we had already shut up shop and we knocking it round midfield and the back. He didn't exactly have much time to do anything. For the record I agree with Sour Mash, thought he looked fired up, a bit more pacey and held the ball up well. Clearly itching to get back in the team.

Lambert looked like he was carrying a bit of an injury. I did not think he performed badly today, it was just not one of his better games. Guly was ineffective for 95% of the match. I am usually a fan of Guly, but i can see why he is attracting criticism.

I was replying to this statement - not to you :

"thought Sharp looked good and hungry"

I disagreed, that's the internet for you and the ability to have opinions. I don't think Sharp looked in any way good or hungry today. He did nothing - agree it's only 10 minutes but he hardly saw or got hold of the ball.

Connolly looked just as good and hungry as Sharp when he came on. Think it says more about the circumstances in which they came on -Barnsley's heads had dropped- than necessarily their play.

I was trying to assess what our forward line would be like without Ricky. Good, but it was too difficult to quantify when Barnsley had given up. When Connolly came on it was bright, decisive and why Sharp had to wait. Sharp will be a good player for us but it could well take a lot longer than we all think. It's a different style and mentality playing up front for Saints than Doncaster, something Billy is having problems getting used to.

When Ricky came off he was utterly ****ged, no injury, something that surprised me. Ricky has a big frame but not an ounce of fat on his body so it must be his ability to shed heat that causes the problem. Either way the Brighton suspension allowed him to get to the pinnacle of performances, but the tank seems empty now. The last time I saw Ricky like this his performances dropped well off, so hopefully we can turn him around quickly. It just seems madness that we have run him into the ground when he can mean so much to us, should have been given rest earlier.

i thought he looked a lot sharper today (excuse the pun), movement, runs and touch starting to come together. looking foward to seeing him with a longer run out.

Lambert was taken of because of a hamstring problem ( precaution ) from the horses mouth

Interesting, as Danny Fox speaking on the mic in corporate after the match said Lambo was absolutely fine (other than "being a red", what with Fox being an Evertonian). I also found out before the match that Lee Barnard is a West Ham fan. Awkward ?

Have to say Lambert did look to be struggling a bit today, don't mind us taking the chance to rest him or Lallana when we're 2 up at home.

I agree, thought they both looked good when they came on. Bit hard to judge though, as Barnsley had given up a bit by then.

The radio commentators mentioned that Sharp wanted us to keep pushing as it would mean more opportunities for him, but that we were closing things down. We're lucky to have a sub like that to bring on.
