Baj Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 Time for a new car. Currently drive a VW Passat, am looking for a similar car. I drove a '08 A4 today and was completely underwhelmed, I also tried a newish 3 series, which was fun. Time to turn to you guys. Im not fussed about gadgets, as long as it has the basics like aircon etc. I want something a little pokey thats fun to drive. I dont want anything smaller in space than a 3 series. Help!
RonManager Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 03 reg Vauxhall Astravan, 115k on the clock, white. Yours for 10k - a snip for this classic auto. You know you want it.
Baj Posted 10 March, 2012 Author Posted 10 March, 2012 Deal, as long as it also comes with £9999 in cash.

Baj Posted 11 March, 2012 Author Posted 11 March, 2012 Good shout, will try to get a test drive in one in the next week or so. Is it the 200bhp version I should go for?
Colinjb Posted 11 March, 2012 Posted 11 March, 2012 I drive a Ford Mondeo, it's superb. If you find one on the second hand market definitely give it a try.

I had a pretty much new mondeo for a month a couple of years ago. It was... average, in every way. Nothing bad to say about it, but nothing good either.
Raging Bull Posted 12 March, 2012 Posted 12 March, 2012 For 10k 06/07 plate golf gti, perfect in so many ways.
sotonjoe Posted 12 March, 2012 Posted 12 March, 2012 The point being with the Mondeo that you could pick up a mint one with years of life in it for £4k, i.e. a lot less than the £10k budget you've quoted.
Baj Posted 12 March, 2012 Author Posted 12 March, 2012 Hatchbacks are going to be too small. Found a low mileage 330i for just a little over budget that I'm trying out Thursday
Saint in Paradise Posted 12 March, 2012 Posted 12 March, 2012 Baj and anyone else thinking of buying a car with a digital speedo:- http://www.digitalmileagecorrection.org.uk/ Not saying it will have been done, just saying it could have been so check carefully with service history.
Baj Posted 12 March, 2012 Author Posted 12 March, 2012 Thanks for the heads up. This particular 330i has had BMW servicing all the way and I'm buying from a BMW dealership, so it's trustworthy Take the point though, worth being cautious with private/ other trade sales
SOTONS EAST SIDE Posted 13 March, 2012 Posted 13 March, 2012 Octavia vrs. Yeah why not get a Passat/A6 with a different body!! Mine would be an M5 520D eco-dynamics from about 2008> does about 60mpg. For a big car thats impressive.

You can check mileage sort of, on the M.O.Transport site via the log book number on the sites MOT check page!!

I'd buy a 2.4lt or 3.2 lt A6 Quattro if you want petrol...3lt diesel otherwise...good engine matches to chassis and car size and excellent spec and residual?

For a big car thats impressive. Good car, but it certainly isn't an A6, or anything like it. The previous Passat (up to around 2005) was based on the A4 platform, but the 2005 onwards ones use a modified Golf platform.
buctootim Posted 15 March, 2012 Posted 15 March, 2012 What about one of the bigger engined Peugeot 407s? - 2.7 diesel or 3.0 petrol V6s I think. You will get get a high spec low mileage car for less than £10,000. The 508 is a really beautiful car to drive but has only been out a year and too expensive currently.
