Sheaf Saint Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 Wonderful stuff. 10 points from 12 now - promotion form. Sounds like we always had a higher gear in the 2nd half as well.
Ohio Saint Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 Awesome day!!!! We are top on merit again at last!!!
farawaysaint Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 Get in there!!!! But seriously bugger off please Reading
Saintjersey Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 Great result and made even better with West Ham drawing. Check out their forum they are having a meltdown http://www.kumb.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=139002&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=460
jezza Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 Awesome, thank you Donny! Shame Leicester couldn't pull something out of the bag but hey ho, onwards and upwards we go. COYR
Lifelongsaint83 Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 Fantastic! Fully expecting Reading to take 2nd away from West Ham. This is what happens when West Ham dont pay the ref! Auto promotion is definatly in our hands.
scotty Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 Get in!! Just back from work, great stuff from the sound of the commentary, and West Hoofball Utd dropped two more points. And the skates looking more and more like relegation fodder. Just a shame Reading won, I reckoned they were on for a draw ffs
ART Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 Hey ho, hey, let everybody know That Saints are best, forget the rest Hey ho, hey ho hey ho. Feeling so much better with these 3 points and West Ham only managing a draw. We owe Donnie a lot for how they played today. Onwards and upwards.
trousers Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 Just walking back to the car. Well, if we can win 2-0 playing that lethargically then I fear for our opponents when we're on fire
the saint in winchester Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 Fantastic! Fully expecting Reading to take 2nd away from West Ham. This is what happens when West Ham dont pay the ref! Auto promotion is definatly in our hands. It IS in our hands, yes, but there is no margin for error now, with 3 teams vying for 2 auto-prom places. We are 3 points ahead of the other 2, but they have a game in hand. If they both win it, we are there on top on goal difference alone. Of course, the other 2 have to WIN that game in hand, though.
Dr Who? Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 Great result and Reading have 3 tricky away games, and West Ham play Leeds away then Boro. Saying that we have to go to Hull, and Millwall! Before we are home to Donny!
pedg Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 Looks like west ham are finding out that playing hoofball works well to start with but is less effective once teams figure out how to play you. At least teams that play good football have the option to switch to hoofball but teams used to just playing hoofball can find it hard to play other ways.
BadgerBadger Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 Great result, thinking Reading may well be our main contenders

There is no margin for error your right. The goal difference we have is like an extra point and I really dont believe anyone will over take it. It is in our hands but its a very fine line.

The 'ammers are throwing their toys out the pram, more than one saying BFS will be sacked by next weekend. And lmfao @ one tw*t saying why havent they bought any strikers then??!!
Thedelldays Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 Just heading back Awful first half, was sat by the dugout. Adkins was fuming most of first half 2nd half, we dominated..Morgan owned the middle, Guly was a threat. Hammond ran his socks off Special shouts to... Fox Morgan Lallana Lee
saints-cris Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 We won, so Im happy. Thats all we can do. I gotta say, looking at West Hams fixtures this month, I wouldnt be surprised if it was them who dropped out..
dvaughanwilliams Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 First Half. We played ok for the first 10 minutes and then had a spell of about 20 minutes of being awful. When we switched the formation to the diamond, we started playing a bit better and the goal certainly helped. Second Half. We were a lot better. We had loads of possession and I thought Guly was great. Loads of one touch passes playing other people in. Tadanari Lee was outstanding setting up Lallana's second goal. Had a couple of decent shouts for a penalty and Connolly looked lively until he got clattered by their keeper when through on goal. That incident caused some discussion about whether it should have been a penalty. I thought it wasn't as the keeper got the ball first then followed through on Connolly, others disagreed, would be interested to see what people sat in the Northam thought. Lambert had a quiet game, but I was surprised when he came off.
Ohio Saint Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 We were able to sub players of the calibre of Lambert, Lallana and Lee.....That says a lot!! Hold on, I think I just wore out the "L" key on my keyboard.
eurosaint Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 Still a 'funny old league' where anybody can beat anybody ! We will lose and draw a few matches coming up, but so will WHU and the Royals, I reckon that it will go to the wire and our goal difference might just prove to be vital ! Exciting times, eh ?? COYS.
MOSaint Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 Excellent result, it would be nice if Reading or West Ham would fall away however their run ins are much more difficult than ours. West Ham have five tough home games against playoff contenders and Reading and far from spectacular home form and Reading have to play Blackpool, West Ham, Saints, Brum, Brighton in their last seven, horrible run in. Promotion is looking ever more likely as the games go by.

DG Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 On the way back, terrible 1st half but much better in the second. Motm for me was Fox. Had some money on 3-0 with Adam scoring first, if only Jos's shot had gone in.

toofarnorth Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 They sound just like us when we've had a bad day - one big difference is they don't back the manager Yeah we just blame Guly and Harding
alpine_saint Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 Hmmm. Table looks mighty fine. But 2 ugly away games coming up, if we are still top after them, I would fancy us for Champions.
DG Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 I'm looking forward to seeing that! It sounded great! It was a cracker, was too far away to see the penalty shout though.

Personal favourite...... by Puff Daddy on Sat Mar 10, 2012 6:05 pm "We had the chance to significantly bolster our attacking options in two transfer windows, but didn't. Had we done so, we would be killing off teams like this today. Once again, we showed too much faith in players who have not performed for us"
SaintBobby Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 Saints are favourties to go up as champions following today's results http://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/championship/winner
CanadaSaint Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 (edited) If we had found a way to consistently play forward from the midfield rather than sideways and back we would have won by six. It didn't cost us any points today but it will before the end of the season, and it desperately needs fixing. And if we're not going to reward Lee's intelligent runs with an early pass, we'd be better off not playing him. Edited 10 March, 2012 by CanadaSaint Additional thought

CanadaSaint Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 lol What a load of crap LoL Do you have anything intelligent to offer? Hold that. I already know the answer.
S-Clarke Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 Solid win. First half was pretty slow and it lacked any real flow, but we still managed to score - which was as route 1 as you'll get tbh. 2nd half was better. We had more confidence in our play and used the space better, but it was helped by Barnsley obviously having to change their tactics slightly - as more space was availiable. Thought Lee was excellent again, he works his arse off - even something you think is a lost cause turns into a corner, or a throw. He's winning so many fans and rightly so. Great to see WHU drop points in a game I expected them to coast, you'd have to say the pressure seems to be getting to them slightly - and when you're playing at home in front of those impatient fans I'm not surprised. Good return of points, now let's do the job in these next 2 away games and we're within touching distance.
Thedelldays Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 Do you have anything intelligent to offer? Hold that. I already know the answer. Yes Jut on way back from the game My thoughts are up the top
Ohio Saint Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 And if we're not going to reward Lee's intelligent runs with an early pass, we'd be better off not playing him. I've noticed that in interviews, Lee's efforts rarely get mentioned by other players. That was especially noticeable today in Lallana's interview since Lee was mostly responsible for his second goal. I wonder if the language barrier is some kind of issue at the moment.
CanadaSaint Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 Yes Jut on way back from the game My thoughts are up the top I took those into consideration.
Thedelldays Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 I took those into consideration. nice Well you are wrong. Nothing needs "desperately" changing And I bet I am well in the majority saying that
ericofarabia Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 Surprised it hasn't been done already ... so can i just say .... WE ARE SOUTHAMPTON >>> AND WE"RE TOP OF THE LEAGUE. YAY
Genk Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 Thought we were lazy in the first half. Couldn't get a hold of the ball properly and get our passing game going. Barnsley started very well and deserved to be the side going in 1up at half time, fortunately for us Lallana popped up. Second half was a lot better. Got our foot on the ball and knocked it around well in the midfield. Cork was good when he came on, with him and Morgan not really giving Barnsley a sniff. Wasn't surprised to see Lambert go off. Wasn't his best game and Connolly played well when he came on. A nice three points in the end. Two huge away games coming up. Still think we are fighting Reading for this second spot and I am still very worried.
saintds Posted 10 March, 2012 Posted 10 March, 2012 We haven't been at our best for the last 3 games but still have 7 more points in the bag. It's back in our own hands now, after Donny pulled one out of the bag.Can Reading keep winning or have they started their sprint too early? It's pretty clear that our game against them is gonna be HUGE!COYMFR!
