no matter what spin is put on it, that was

2 POINTS DROPPED

No, we now have 1 MORE point than when we kicked off, and Ipswich are a far better side than when we thrashed them at Portman Road.

Dont write the season off before the last final whistle.

Positives. We didn't lose. Pompey are bottom. No-one got injured. Billy Sharp has to score soon.

As others have said though - beating Barnsley kinda matters. And hopefully Nige Pearson will put a rocket under Leicester leaving them something to prove next up against Reading.

This time next week Reading will be on the same points as us, unless Leicester or Doncaster can do us a favour. This is of course if we beat Barnsley!

Reading have won 7 on the spin, surely they have to slip up soon?

I THINK this would be the table if all these teams won their games in hand that they have over us (theoretically if they don't play eachother)

Wham 70

SAINTS 66

Reading 66

Boro 62

Brum 61

Cardiff 59

Hull 59

Brighton 57

Blackpool 56

The fact we have to play Reading, Blackpool and Boro makes it's so scary/exciting

A daft deflection ruins our win. I just have a feeling on Karma with this one. The chances Leeds missed against us of course we were going to get something working against us. We played well today, that's the important bit. After a battering on Saturday we still showed that we can play to our best (with the exception of the final touch.)

Are we capable of winning a playoff competition ? I DON'T THINK SO!

We have to get automatic promotion or bust.

1-0 up at home with only minutes left and we still fail to kill the game.

I disagree. I think we have big game players. They seem to perform better in the bigger games in general

They still have to travel to Saints, West Ham, Birmingham and Brighton. If they keep winning they'll bloody deserve to go up. Still in our hands though. Lovin' that goal difference.

A very disappointing result. Why was the side changed so much? We've looked so much better with Chaplow, Lallana, Cork & Morgan in the middle. Were there injuries tonight? De Ridder instead of Puncheon? Cork on the bench? Sharp still not starting? Sorry. It doesn't make sense to me.

Er, like we did on Saturday??

Guess what, sometimes you draw football games...

If winning was so easy, everyone would do it all the time wouldn't they.

It ain't over until the fat lady sings and right now, she isn't even fat!! In fact, she's still single...

Come back and ***** when she's croaking.

True, but we SHOULD be beating Ipswich and Bristol City at home, so we will slip up again, probably more than once, let's just enjoy the ride!!

the reason I do not think we are capable of winning a PO, is simple. The mere fact that we have spent so much time in the automatic positions that finishing short of them will such a big disappointment for the team they wouldn't recover their

composure.

Remember how Huddersfield did last season after we pipped them in the last few games?

Davis - Made a few great saves and was hardly to blame for a deflected goal - 7

Richardson - Couldn't beat his man with usual ease and crossing was below bar - 6

Harding - Always thought he was suitable cover but beginning to doubt, offered little in attack or defence and should've covered Hooiveld for goal conceded - 5

Hooiveld - Coped well in the air and poorly on the deck, often bettered by Chopra and to blame for Scotland's goal - 5

Fonte - Played well and dealt with his problems much better than Jos - 7

Schneiderlin - Involved with everything positive and continued to show his extensive passing ability and improving defensive game - 7

Hammond - Didn't do particularly badly, but was fairly anonymous. Played one superb ball, but doens't make a game - 6

Lallana - Was a constant threat as is his talent, but wasn't near his best and Harding didn't help - 7

Guly - His efforts couldn't be knocked this time and his touches, flicks and quick passes are top, but limited by Ipswich's defence - 6

Lee - Ran and ran and ran. Effort was top notch and capably defended from the front too. Didn't really have a chance to score though. - 6

Lambert - Took his goal well and was always a target for the long ball - 7

SDR - Made the world of difference and had Lambert took his second chance, Saints would've put the game to bed at 2-0, thanks to another top ball into the box - 8

Cork - 6

Sharp - 6

Guly played OK in the first half, with a header going narrowly wide and some decent closing down, but ran out of steam early in the second half. His second half performance was woeful and he was looking at the bench after about 10 minutes.

Tadanari Lee had a good first half, using his pace to get in behind their defence. He did go down a bit easily under some challenges. No good shooting opportunities, but excellent link up play.

Lallana had a couple of absolute sitters that he didn't put away in the first half.

De Ridder was very good when he came on. After the goal that he set up he put in another good cross a couple of minutes later. His passing, movement and end result have all improved IMO. I think he deserves a start against Barnsley on the basis of the impact he made in the game.

Hammond was disappointing. His energy was good and he won the ball, but his passing wasn't great.

We were dominant for most of the first half, but Ipswich did have a couple of decent chances.

In the second half, Ipswich had a lot more possession, winning the midfield battle, so we switched to the diamond formation with Hammond on the left, Guly on the right, Lallana at the point and Schneiderlin at the base. It left us narrow and Guly was often in a poor position to close down their full back as a result. Davis pulled off a magnificent save from a header that kept it 0-0. Then Lambert's goal from a great cross from De Ridder. Ipswich started getting a bit more success from their "hoof and scrap" approach, especially when Scotland got on the end of it. Their goal had an element of luck with Scotland getting hold of a hopeful ball, Schneiderlin slipped and then the shot went in off a deflection. Not enough time to get a second.

Overall, disappointed because we could have been out of sight after the first half. Also when we were leading we should have closed the game out. Still, 1 point is better than none.

Dont understand why Nige wants to keep swapping about the midfield , Providing they are all fit , Chaplow , Cork , Schniederlin , Lalana should be automatic starts everygame.

They give the team much more balance and add a lot more to our attacking play. I would also say Billy Sharp-- The jury is out!!

Still think we will be ok but Nige needs to realise this is the time of the season for a settled team , Keep rotation to a minimum.

I agree with most of your ratings except the comment on Harding. In the first half Harding played some wonderful balls for Lallana to run on to. Second half he was pretty poor, though.

But then take off the 6 they lose when Poopey go pop ;)

FFS, Pompey have offered nothing at all. Now die you bastards.

Does anyone REALLY believe that would happen?! Miracles like that don't really happen.

Liquids right, its not going to happen. It ought to, but it wont. Anyone that believes brooking is going to sit idly by and watch his beloved w ham drop 5 points in their promotion push is simply deluded.

I can assure you that Guly being coloured has nothing to do with my opinion that he isn't very good.

Frustrating result. We never ever had complete control of the game as Ipswich did what Listener and Bristol City did this year....got tight, closed us down, and didn't allow us to pass out from the back. Worryingly when teams deploy that tactic we have little answer to it (although we almost did tbf!)

De Ridder came on and gave us that spark we were missing, someone to run at a player and beat them. I thought Guly was poor, didn't offer anything what so ever and Harding was just abysmal tbh. He's not good enough for us anymore and I don't think it's a coincidence that we dropped lots of points the last time he was in the team.

He's been terrific for us but I think we've passed him by. I hope Fox is fit soon as I'd worry if we have to play Harding for the majority of the games as he looks a little dodgy to say the least.

Ipswich looked confident and always posed a threat - so it was no surprise when they equalized, and also no surprise at which side it came from.

Onto the next one. If you'd have given me 4 points from Leeds and Ipswich last Friday I'd have taken it - it's just the way round it's happened which makes it all the more frustrating!
