Dog Posted 6 March, 2012 Share Posted 6 March, 2012 I am sick to the teeth with people who cannot speak proper English or Asians calling me up at least 6 times a day, normally when I'm having my dinner or tea, in the bath or stroking one off, ringing me up and asking if I am the owner of the house? 'No, I've just broke in to answer the ****ing phone you dirty smelly ****ing ****!!!' I do not want loft insulation, I do not want double ****ing glazing, I do not want cheaper ****ing car insurance, if i did I'd get off my arse and go and get some!! And the bastards that call you and hang up when you answer makes my ****ing blood itch, I've been through 8 telephones this year alone, and I have a whole in my wall from talking to the idiots who only understand pigeon English. I registered with some company 9 months ago to stop cold calling, and it got worse! Any help would be nice?

dune Posted 6 March, 2012 Share Posted 6 March, 2012 Solar panels is the latest one that I'm getting. If you have the time and the patience keep them on the line for the fun of it. I like to keep getting them to repeat themselves and asking them to speak more slowly. Just keep doing this over and over again until they hang up. trousers Posted 6 March, 2012 Share Posted 6 March, 2012 Try regisitering with these people...it works www.mpsonline.org.uk I'm registered to that and it has certainly helped reduce the number of calls considerabley over the years. However, when you 'politely' tell cold callers that they are breaking the law they rattle off something along the lines of: "You didn't tick a 'don't contact me' box on a form a while back so we're entitled to call you"....at which point I become less polite.... dune Posted 6 March, 2012 Share Posted 6 March, 2012 Buy a whistle and keep it next to the phone. I own hunting horn and someone rang up heavy breathing down the phone so I gave them a blast, only to find out it was an uncle who was suffering with throat cancer. Kingsland Codger Posted 6 March, 2012 Share Posted 6 March, 2012 Try regisitering with these people...it works http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/tps If you do get calls when registered, get their details and report them I fully endorse what ALWAYS_SFC says. I registered at the start of this year and the calls have more or less stopped after 3 or 4 a day beforehand. I don't think it can stop the random calls as a few get through (most recently from 'Windows Technical Care' or 'Microsoft Technical Assistance' or similar) but the bulk has stopped. Bearsy Posted 6 March, 2012 Share Posted 6 March, 2012 I was watching Seinfeld one time and he said "Sorry I'm a bit busy now how about you give me your home number and I'll call you later tonight? No? You don't want me calling you at home? Well that's two of us you f*cking c*cksucker!"

angelman Posted 6 March, 2012 Share Posted 6 March, 2012 TPS doesn't have any sway over foreign callers. I got one the other day and the woman was very sympathetic when I told her that the person they were asking for wasn't at this number (as the number was reassigned to me 3 years ago and I get incessant calls). We had a chat and she said they got the data from a company called CP Network up in Basingstoke and that they were the ones to talk to. ie, find out who is selling your details and get them to remove you. The ones that I love is the Indian fellow ringing me up on my home number (as opposed to my work number at home) and saying I have a virus with my PC. When I tell them I have no computer on the number they called on, they are a little stumped.
dvaughanwilliams Posted 6 March, 2012 Share Posted 6 March, 2012 Telephone preference service will stop anyone in the EU from calling you. It's also illegal for anyone in the EU to pass your details outside of the EU under the Data Protection Act. However, if an overseas call centre gets your number, there's nothing you can do to stop them. Especially the calls about 'a virus on your computer' which are from conmen who will then direct you to a site that will install a virus on your machine that you need to pay them to remove. I can't understand how some of the companies stay in business though. I would never buy anything from any of these callers and I can't imagine anyone that would. Draino76 Posted 6 March, 2012 Share Posted 6 March, 2012 Can I ring up O2 and just say I want a new number and start again with new friends?
Petersfield Saint Posted 7 March, 2012 Share Posted 7 March, 2012 These days we just let everything on our landline go to the answering machine unless it's a number we recognize (friends, family etc.). The spammers never leave a message, job done.
