Am I right in thinking we have never played Wigan in a league game?

They went up when we went down so assuming we have never been in the same division

Can't remember ever playing them in a cup either but may be wrong...could it be we pass again? Are they just frightened to play us or something?

The coincidences run deeper than you think where Wigan are concerned: The season we were promoted to the top flight in 1978, Wigan were elected to the Football League at the expense of Southport, the season we were relegated they get promoted to the top flight............................. Hmmmmm

Now the 2 previous times we were promoted to the top flight it was secured with a draw at Leyton Orient: how strange would it be if Wigan were the link on this occasion even if it is just passing between leagues.

I remember us beating them 3-0 at The Dell in the FA Cup c1985 or 86.

Apart from that no recollection of a meaningful fixture.

Actually I hope they stay up as both Marinez and the chairman , Whelan, come across well. Can't see it happening for them though.

Dave Gob****e Whelan? Don't have sympathy for him, he doesn't deserve it.

Interseting observation, but not one I share really. In the interviews I've heard Whelan has come across as someone who genuinely cares about his club and has done pretty well for it yet sees a succession of managers jumping ship (Bruce for one). Whelan seems more of a Jack Walker/ Sir Jack Heywood type of benefactor/owner than an egotist such as Bates, Abramovich (or the other Russian oligarch/Indian chicken processors). I'm sure many clubs - including one down the M27 - would be better off with a Whelan in charge.

Oh well, we'll have to respectfully disagree on that point .... unless we can run to a few pages of petty insults of course...

A ****ty little club, punching above their weight.

I remember a time when many said that about us though whilst we were playing at The Dell with a 15,000 - 19,000 crowd. My argument was that we were there and stayed there on merit.

He criticised his own manager's team selection on national radio last night. He also thought it was his place to constantly berate Eriksson, McClaren and Capello, when it's none of his business - personally I've no time for the man, or anyone who carries on like that, for that matter.

No insults intended Mr. Badger, none at all.

Oh, well I certainly was not aware of that. Agree that is out of order .It is quite a development then because I recall the "I would never sack Roberto" on 5live.

And although I can understand berating England managers, again I agree not his place to do so, had it been Rupert the media would have had a field day.

Can understand your view although still see him in a more favourable light than some of the alternatives I mentioned.

So did mandaric when he was waxing lyrical about the blue few today, how theyre such a wonderful community club and so well supported that the club could never die, blablabla. Before pointing out he wasnt about to lift a finger to help them, obviously  Saying it in an interview doesnt mean he's not a c*nt though, dont know enough about whelan to form an opinion tbh.

Chris Hutchings might disagree with you on that one. As for the team selection thing, as Badger has said, it's out of order. Adding 'his job is safe however' doesn't really do much to convince me otherwise about the bloke.

he got it wrong...every single person does. with pretty much the other 19 chairmen, martinez would have been gone ages ago...he backs his man...

Not sure which 2 teams I want to play in prem

Team. Good points. Bad points

Wigan - play football easy 6 points - up north

Bolton - ? - play hoofball up north

Blackburn - play football - up north waste of a club

QPR - short away trip - Hughes will get them organised

Wolves - not so far north 6 points - waste of club

I'm not sure they're the worst team, there's tough competition for that title with Wolves, Bolton, Blackburn and QPR around. Next season's top flight could be a lot tougher than this seasons unfortunately (if we're in it). Might be second season syndrome for Norwich or Swansea though, and I have a feeling Stoke might struggle soon.

I think stoke will be OK. no europa league football.....that would hurt any team that was not used to it

Yep, decent, self made bloke, putting his own money into his local club. Far better than the majority of football owners.
