The Run In Thread

With a quarter of the season now left, I think its an apt time to start this thread. Sticky please mods?

Included everyone down to 9th place, of which 13 points separate. Quite a few teams with games in hand though, if Hull win their 2 for example they'd jump to 4th and if anybody puts a run of 5 or 6 wins in a row together they can jump right up the league (ala Reading). Direct clashes in bold. Depending on result a few teams can probably be taken out in a few weeks time.

I believe Leeds are the most important team in this run in, I can see them giving West Ham a damn good go with a full crowd this time and they still have to play Reading.

Our run in does look the easiest one but sometimes thats our downfall.

Aint that the truth.....in the past, but I just wonder if this current team/management havent got a little bit more about them than those that have gone before.

Lets hope so.

At the worst, we should hopefully get second on that tally of 87.

I'd be happy with a point against Ipswich. They have been playing very well lately, so it's going to be a tough game.

I would be really disappointed if we only get 1 point against Ipswich, would completely undo all of the good work of the last few weeks. Ipswich are a form team, no doubt and it will not be easy, but it is just as vital to get 3 points on Tuesday as it was to get 3 yesterday. We have to win our home games and pick up at least 6 points from our remaining aways. Likely scenario is that us, West Ham and Reading will win a lot more games this season, and the match between us and Reading will be pivotal. For me it is almost certainly any 2 from that 3 for automatic promotion now, the others are scrabbling for the play-offs and thats the one place where we do not want to end up at any price.

stop worrying about what other teams are doing. We have the best run in of the teams around us and points in the bag, it's in our own hands. If we dont do it we only have ourselves to blame.

Agree my balding friend

I reckon we are 20 points away from auto promotion. 6 wins and 2 draws from 12. Should be able to do that

As we've only lost 7 in 34 to lose 4 in 12 would be awful given the teams we have left to play. We'll lose but it shouldn't be more than 2 really.

Agreed - having looked at Leeds fixtures they play 6 of the top 9 teams. Lets hope they now go on a great run!

I have us down as having 23 points from those games, but that's if we find the form that wasn't there against Leeds. 88 points should be enough for 1st, but I'll take whatever the lower amount is to finish second. Out of form, and I can see 18 points from them, which would still see us on 83 points.

Whatever happens - 2 wins this week would be ******* massive. MASSIVE.

Brighton are going to have a big say in it to as they seem back to form as well after their blip. Cardiff(H) Blackpool(A) Boro(H) Reading(H) West Ham(A) Birmingham(H). There will be plenty of teams taking points off each other at the right time of the season for us. I've always thought 85-pts should take us up automatically so another 21-pts from 12 games 6-wins & 3 draws giving us that figure. The next 3 are all win able, if we can win all three then the finish line is within sight! As said by many on here Reading is the big one for us, a must not lose game. Anything from Blackpool would also be a bonus.

Reading really are flying, but hopeully the run they have, playing Blackpool, West Ham, Leeds, Brighton and then us back-to-back will mean they can't possibly keep it up. Can they...?

They will drop points before the end of the season.

They are currently winning games they 'should' be winning.

Time for a Reality Check methinks

I think Adkins is losing the plot

Not long ago, we were EIGHT points clear. Now we have played two more games than WHU, one more than Reading, and can now be caught by both.

We are currently looking at a Top Six finish

We are no longer playing the slick one touch, along the ground type of football that we were seeing earlier in the season. Now, at the first sign of trouble, it is Hoof it up in the air,( which of course is ideal for the six foot six Lee )

Playing Guly on the right wing is ridicukous.

Adkins is of the mindset that he HAS to make substitutions EVERY match. Only the de Ridder one worked v Ipswich

Ipswich fans were right. Top of the League ? Yes, we ARE having a laugh

Judging by the run ins, it'll be between us wet spam and reading, cant see any of the others getting enough to trouble us, but they could hold back whu and reading a bit.

Realistically, with their run in and games in hand I reckon WHU will win it with us and reading fighting for 2nd. Anyones guess which way that'll go. We just need to concentrate on ourselves and let the others worry about us, onwards and upwards. :D

All those saying Reading are bound to drop points have seriously f**king short or selective memories....

What do you lot think Huddersfield fans were saying about us last season ?

"Damn that other south coast team getting the auto-promotion slot ahead of us"?

Hoho. Very good. And now you've got that very funny joke out of your system ?

Bottom line is we cannot rely on Reading dropping points. We have to win our games, including against them.

ipswich fans were right, top of the league, were having a laugh.saintrichmond, are you for real mate.we are top for a reason, weve done the best so far out of everyone in the league.we may well go second after whu play tonight but considering weve been there most of the season aint too bad.a draw against ipswich maybe disheartning but these things happen,we shouldnt have won at leeds but we did, theres plenty of games to go,if you'd been at leeds you would have seen how much this team want it,it probably drained them a fair bit.i wouldve taken a draw againgst leeds and a win against ipswich,it was the other way round,so imo we are still on track.

Depends on your point of view. Leeds WAS a great result, thanks to Kelvin Davis. Play it another nine times and the odds would be that we would have lost.

Yes we are (currently) Top of the League for a reason, our performances over the course of the season. But, if you look at our recent form, it is not so impressive.

I repeat, we WERE eight points clear. We arn't now. Is that not disturbing to you ?

Yes, I am for real, looking at real facts. As I've said many times, I'm a STH for over forty years. I've seen the good times, I've seen the bad times. There is nothing wrong in calling it as you see it without looking at things through rose coloured glasses as many on here do

We ARE in danger of finishing in the Play Off Places, instead of an Automatic Promotion one IMHO

on league form we are second to reading,in nine out of ten games we would probablyhave beaten ipswich,im 52 and been watching saints since 1966,like you through good and bad,we were actually eleven points clear of reading i believe and others have pegged us back.we have no given right to win every game, weve still got reading to play at sms and some very winnable games on paper,i definitly am not looking at it through rose coloured glasses.im well happy with what weve achieved this season.if im honest if we go up,fantastic but if we dont, its not that big a problem to me.higher ticket prices, changed ko times, prawn sandwich fans and maybe struggling most weeks.loss of players who are proud to wear the red and white of sfc for money grabbing mercanieries,no thanks.we may be in danger of the play-offs,thats still another chance to go up and still a good way of going up.enjoy the rest of the season and see what happens,i personaly think we will still do it,coys

Yeah, our form has gone right out of the window. Even allowing for the fact that we might not have played as much slick football as we'd all like, our last six games have yielded 14 points (comfortably above the magic 2 points per match ratio) and put plus 10 on our goal difference. I think we've gone into total melt-down - time to change the manager. Help!!!!
