I remember this game, i think Egil Ostenstadt scored from our only attack. I remember a game at Sellhurst Park in 1992/93 when we were 'battered by Crystal Palace for nigh on 90 minutes, Tim Flowers pulled off some great saves that day, as i recall we broke away twice and scored twice through Ian Dowie & Perry Groves to win 2-1....it was daylight robbery....my mate who i was with got into a heated argument with a Palace fan at the end of the game he was ****ing fuming!!! He reffered to us as the jammiest bastards ever!....tbh on that day we were exactly that!

After yesterday trying to remember other wins where we scored with only real attack while soaking up constant presure

Sunderland away 96-97

I am sure I went to that game with my brother. It was a key game in us staying up and them going down. Was it their last season at Roker Park?

Cup Final 1976, Man U hammered us really but they couldn't score and we could.

Yesterday's win just shows the importance of going in front really. As long as you're ahead you control your destiny, even though it may not look that way at the time.

Man utd at home in 97/98 season when Kevin Davies scored after 3 mins, after which they battered us non stop but Paul Jones put in a Kelvin esque performance to keep them out. That game was also live on sky, Monday night game I think

Donkey's years ago, against Liverpool at the Dell. Hughie Fisher fed a free kick through to Mick Channon, who netted after about 45 seconds. We then spent the next 89 minutes camped in our penalty area, whilst they hit us with everything they had.

Also, I remember a game at Leeds, in the Revie era, when we did what was considered impossible and beat them 1 - 0. The brilliant Dave Maclaren was in goal, and saved everything. Probably the only game that he saved anything !!!

I can't agree with Window Cleaner about our 1-0 win V Man Utd in 76 being a smash n grab, we had other chances in that game, nor can i agree with SlickMick about our 1-0 at Anfield in 1981 when Steve Moran scored, i was also at that game and we had a few other chances although Liverpool could consider themselves unfortunate to have lost the game. Sinned posted about a 1-0 win over Liverpool along time ago when Hughie Fisher and Mick Channon played, this reminded me of a very lucky 1-0 win over Liverpool at the Dell in the 90/91 season, Le Tissier scored after 2 minutes and we were hanging on for the rest of the game. Ian Rush as i recall could've scored 6 if it hadn't been for Tim Flowers and a linesmans flag! There was a great shout from St Lej regarding the 1-0 win over Man Utd in 97/98, this was very much like the Liverpool game that i have just mentioned.

Another game that springs to mind was a 1-0 win over Newcastle at St James's in about 97 when Souness was manager, i think Le Tissier scored a cracker for us but it was probably the only shot we had all afternoon.

I can't agree with the synopsis that we only had one chance on Saturday either, Lambert had a shot blocked late on, and we broke 2 on 1 and 2 on 2 twice in the last 10 minutes without even making the keeper make a save, somehow.

Ron Davies scored in what was our only attacking move. 1970 maybe?

Oct 66. Ron header from a David Thompson (remember him?) corner.

I remember a game against Leeds at the Dell which we won 1-0 with Kachloul scoring inside the first 10 mins and us then hanging on for the rest of the match. Nerve wracking but eventually it got to the stage where you just knew that the game could have gone on for another 2 hours but it just wasn't Leeds day to score.
