I've spoken to someone who knows Sharp and he is putting in the extra training to get himself fitter for the run in, we will see a difference Sharp who will take us to the premiership for sure. His words, Adkins is making him hungry for a return as he wants to help us so badly.IMHO I know why Adkins wanted Hooper as he would of pushed us on straight away while Sharp would need at least 3 weeks to understand our system and to get him fitter.I suppose we got lucky that Lee has come in and started with a bang.

Sharp has not been 100% for a while and it would not surprise me if that is still the case. I don't know the nature of the injuries and it could be just pain after a certain period, but the term niggling problems has been used by Adkins. When you look at the question of forwards, it's Ricky plus one and the effectiveness of the pair. In my view it's pretty straight forward and comes down to who compliments Ricky the best. IMHO Chung compliments Ricky far better than Billy. It's all about goals scored / created by the front pair and until Billy starts banging them in regularly, I would stick with Chung. Because of the volume of games we have coming up, Billy will definitely get his chance but I feel it will have to be achieved by what he does off his own back, as his complimentary play makes Ricky look even less likely to score IMHO. I don''t know why, but Ricky seems to lay even further back with Billy.

You did indeed, was it the day of the plane?

may have been...remember lee scoring a header...he was shyte too....remember the old "stand up if you want lowe out: was being sung about about 15000 people immediately stood up.....

how anyone can sit there, see/hear that and remain to defiant I will never know

If Lallana is fit he will be starting, find it stupid that people r saying he'l be on the bench. Why would he be, its not as if he's been out for long and has lost match fitness. He will not be starting ON THE BENCH!

No, the day of the plane was versus Sheffield Wednesday which we won 3-0 ( Jones bagged a couple)..

Ipswich was a few weeks before and we were so pizz poor that day it was embarrassing.

For some reason i'm convinced we are going to lose tonight.

Although we won on Saturday, the way we played suggests you might be right.

But with Lallana back to knit the midfield together a bit more and hold the ball up, we should play better and we still have an awesome record at home....

Personally, I would play Lee up front and continue to have Sharp on the bench. When Sharp has played, he has been excellent at holding the ball up and laying off passes to the midfield, but hasn't been able to get many shooting opportunities. Leaving him out of the team will make him hungry for game time, but also relieve some of the pressure on him associated with a (relatively) big transfer fee by being out of the limelight.

Until Lee is injured, or has a bad performance, he deserves his place in the team. When he has had a chance in the team he has made an impact and carried on in the same way when he's started. When Sharp gets his next chance, he'll have to make sure he makes the best of the opportunity and gives Nigel a selection headache.

Davis

Richardson--Fonte--Hooiveld--Harding (if Fox injured)

Chaplow--Schneiderlin--Cork--Lallana

Lambert--Lee

If no Lallana, I'd play Puncheon or Guly in a diamond midfield.

Yeah, but those of us saying he might start on the bench are a bit thick so give us a break. We can't help being unitelligent.

It's because of the nature of the injury and the significance of the player to our run in. A groin injury such as Lallana's means he has actually torn muscle from the bone, that has to heal within the limited time he has had. What makes it difficult is that the injury occured from a sideways movement of the hips or swivel, which will sometimes go unnoticed when even running in a straight line. You go through your recuperation and use the feedback from walking / running in a straight line before you start your twisting and turning exercises to see how it then stands up. The problem is that it normally never allows for instances on the field where you extend yourself too far, either by tiredness or over extending yourself accidentally or the result of a tackle. This is a second groin injury Lallana has had this season and there is a definite weakness here and the very short recovery time means there still could be an underlying weakness. That does not mean he could not be effective on the pitch without further damage, but when you have a player that is the difference between auto and the play off's IMHO, why would anyone want to take the risk? You can still have him on the bench to make a contribution if you really believed it was required, but it would be a no brainer to me to have him sat on the bench even the coming Saturday, even Millwall if we felt we could get away with it. We are very lucky that the injury has occured where we may be able to afford Lallana rest to ensure his recovery, leaving him fully fit for the difficult games where I feel we can't do without him.

If he had torn the ligament from the bone that is minimum 6-8 weeks, source my lad that did it and the Saints doctor that treated him at the Nuffield for it.

I would keep him on the bench until we are desperate hopefully not tonight and save him for the run in - any doubts he shouldnt play.

You have to be having a F'ing laugh.... Guly is terrible did anyone see saturday's game and all the other games from November onwards? Everytime he plays it's like us playing with 10 men. We have been playing so much better without him (apart from sat but we still won) why change it? Only change id make is Butterfield in for Richardson, AL is back so play either Chappers or Punch on the right possible Sharp to start but Lee to come on in 2nd half. Would like to see De Ridder on the bench instead of Guly.

And for those of you that can't go to the game or get Solent don't forget you can get a free trial on Saints Player.

Hope it doesn't crack up under the strain.

It's also available as one of the commentary options on BBC red button Freeview service. Not sure if that's country wide.

Some people like the way he plays, others don't. You don't. I do. He's good at 1 touch passing and finding through balls for players in space. His workrate is a lot higher than some people give him credit for, he actually does a lot of chasing down. However, he doesn't have pace with the ball and doesn't take defenders on. On the bench IMO.

The recovery time is based upon the proportion of the muscle that is torn from the bone. A complete seperation and we would not be seeing him again this season, whereas 5% and its far quicker. The more minor the tear, the less the recovery time required within limits. That's why when you have a minor tear that you don't do further damage and extend a couple of weeks off to a couple of months

Chaplow and Puncheon not even in the squad? Need a rest, injuries or just dropped?

No surprise about Cork being replaced by Hammond, he hasn't been playing to his normal high standard recently and could probably do with a bit of bench time for encouragement.

I think Ipswich will make the mistake of trying to play passing football against us and push forward. This might leave some gaps in the midfield for Guly to play through balls for Lee to run on to and space for Lallana and Lambert to cause their usual havoc.

Feeling confident. 2-0.

Cork, Sharp, Connolly, Martin, De Ridder on the bench

We've had a number of matches without a sub Goal Keeper, do we have a reasonable out field player back up Goaly which gives Adkins some confidence in this decision ? Hope this doesn't catch us out at some point.

Interesting (perhaps) that Hammond is still captain even though he's not guaranteed a starting place these days.

There's a certain train of thought that points to having one of the 'automatic choice' players as captain. Hey no. No great shakes I guess.
