Saints vs Ipswich - Build Up

There's no way I'd start with the same 11. That starting 11 were horrific int he first half yesterday and players like Hammond have to start on Tuesday.

I'd pull Cork out of the firing line and replace him with Hammond, and also drop Puncheon who I thought was flaming awful. Lallana 'should' be back.

Anyone for a rendition of 'Super Kelvin Davis' to greet him onto the pitch on Tuesday night? :D

That result will bring the team right together, with all of them riding the bounce of beating Leeds like that, I'm confident we'll get a result.

True, but Leeds away and Tractors at home are two completely different prospects. Thinking about it, if Lallana isn't fit I might go with Chaplow left and De Ridder on the right.

Why would you go with De Ridder? He's contributed about 30 decent minutes in his time here.

because that is what our fans do......not so long ago, bart HAD to be in goal

lallana will come back (people who know him have said as such)

I suspect hammond will come in

and I can see sharp playing a big part in the next two home games.....guly will also come on too

I fail to understand how anyone can think De Ridder deserves a start. When he's started he's never been better than average. His contribution this season has been the goal at Reading and little else. Lallana should be back but if he isn't then Guly to start with Sharp up top. Lee on the bench, it's clear the jet lag caught up with him yesterday as he could only manage a half. not sure about Hammond back in. We'll have more of the ball Tuesday and Cork and Schniderlin are better that. Hammond is good at breaking play up so was needed yesterday, would depend on the fitness and fatigue of Cork and Schniderlin.

I reckon this, but possibly with Sharp in for Lee. I'd imagine Lee will either start and come off at half time or soon after, or Sharp start and Lee on around 60 minutes.

AL says he will be fit for tuesday unless he has a recurrence in training,i personally would rest him till the weekend,no point rushing him back for the sake of it there is still too many important games to go.

Cheers.

Yep, Adam on the bench for me. Bring him on only if we need to.

Lallana ??????

Hopefully THEVMAN will be able to give us some more information on his progress, but I don't think he'll be fit for Tuesday. Much rather have him fully fit for Saturday tbh.

Edit: Having just seen that THEVMAN has already posted about Adam, I would put him on the bench instead of Punch and then start him on Saturday.

Simply because, and ignoring delldays sarcastic little comment, I believe he would be better than Puncheon was at Leeds.

No other reason than that.

He's been pretty good in the very limited outings he has had thus far. As for the Reading goal being his only contribution, that would be true if he hadn't scored against Cardiff, Coventry and Torquay. His goals and assist this season stack up favourably compared to any other midfielder, with the exception of Lallana.

Apart from the Reading game, when has he contributed anything of note this season? When was his last decent performance? Yes i understand people are fooled into thinking he's good because he's quick and run around a lot but in terms of final ball, finishing and moments of any quality, i'm struggling to think of more than a couple this season. To be blunt all he offers is a lot of effort but not a lot of quality.

I agree Puncheon wasn't very good yesterday, but neither were those around him in midfield. Even in his sort time back with us he's offered more than De Ridder has. He was very good against Cardiff and Birmingham and then out of the side. I'd play Guly, Puncheon and Chaplow ahead of De Ridder.

He really hasn't. His goal against coventry was a defensive cock up and it almost hit him and went in. He's okay for 15 minutes when he comes on but after that fades out of the game. When he's started, he's often been pretty awful. The fact that Nige has picked him so rarely for a start and at the moment he cant get near the squad suggests he thinks the same as well.

Looking at Ispwich's form it reads WWWWLW. On the road they haven't been as good though going down 3-0 at Brighton in their last away, and with 2 wins by single goal margins at Coventry and Portsmouth. This is going to be a tough game.

All the hard work yesterday will have been for nothing if we don't take all the points Tuesday. Ipswich are more than capable of a shock so we need to be professional about this game. Hopefully AL is back, even on the bench would be great. Bring BS in and rest TL ready for the Barnsley game with DC on the bench as cover. Would like to see SDR on the bench too if AL is unfit so we have a pace injection if needed.

I've never understood these sort of comments. It wont be for nothing, because we got 3 points yesterday. The hard work yesterday would have been for nothing if we'd lost yesterday because we'd have got nothing. THe hard work yesterday was great but we need to put the same effort in tomorrow to make sure the effort of both games count for something.

I think we will go Chaplow left, Guly Right with Lee and Lambert continuing up front. Lallana on bench with possibly de Riddler. Ipswich have been very unpredictable this season but based on their recent form i suspect this could be a very tough game. We have struggled against teams who press us high up pitch. Be interesting to see what tactics they employ.

3-2 Saints

I like DeRidder, he has been a little unlucky because he has either played in a reserve team or mostly when we weren't playing well. He certainly made a massive difference after coming on at half time when we were losing against Hull.

Will be a tricky game. Ipswich remind me of Peterborough in league 1 from last year. Ships goals, but can hurt you going forward.

I'm hoping they'll open up against us, and we can get some joy against them. Don't think it's in their nature to sit back and stop us playing.

Well funnily enough it was when he had a little, and I mean little, run in the side, around Christmas. Played very well against Palace and Bristol City. Then he picked up an injury and was back out the side.

My team depending on fitness...

Davis

Richardson (if fit) Fonte Jos Harding

Morgan Cork

Puncheon Chaplow

Lambert Sharp

Subs..... Lee , Hammond , Martin , Lallana and De Ridder...Butterfield on standby re Richardson? Injured..Fox

If AL is fit I would still give him the extra days to fully recover.

Yes I would start Sharp and Puncheon.......Lee and De Ridder as impact subs

and try to save AL and Captain marvel last half hour....

Apologies forgot Guly:blush: Where do I put him? Are there any experts out there

NA will play Guly IMO, either right mid or up top with Lambert. Big favourite of his, especially at home. Have a feeling Sharp may have to wait his turn again.

Lallana will play.

Davis

Butterfield Fonte Hoolved Harding

Guly Hammond Morgan Lallana

Lambert Sharp

Subs;Chaplow,Lee,Puncheon,Martin,De ridder.

Really? That's not how I remember it. I recall him being dire along with everyone else against City and average against Palace. He runs about a lot but in reality does very with the ball. He needs 8 attempts to get one decent cross in. Don't get me wrong, if they can do a bit of work with him on the training ground would could have a hell of a player on our hands. Right now though he isn't getting near our first team and rightly so. He is popular with a lot of fans because he's quick, just like Antonio was and for some that is all that seems to matter and in far more important than what they do with the ball when they get it.
