Snodgrass

Whilst I don't deny Becchio gave our defence a real challenge, his finishing was dire. Not dissimilar to Kenny Miller who came to St Marys with a Big Reputation but couldn't deliver - a feat he repeated with even more hopelessness at Wembley last weekend.

The Snodgrass volley a few minutes after Ricky's wonder goal summed it up for me. Good positioning, Row Z finish.

Snodgrass lacks the pace required to shine in Prem for me. Didn't think he was outstanding tonight. He played very well against us a few seasons back at Elland Road, but I thought he was poor at SMS the last two times.

Should saints get promoted, players from the championship I would prefer they consider; Curtis Davies, Matthew Phillips, Peter Whittingham (though do we needed him with having Lallana?). I think full back is a key position but I honestly don't know where we get what would be required in the PL.

Whittingham would be a great option for CM, not sure Davies is better than Fonte or Hooiveld - but Phillips would be an outstanding option for RM.

As for fullback, I think both could do a job in the Prem - and there's certainly no-one better in the NPC.

Last nights' performance although a fantastic result proves that, if we do go up we will need 4 maybe 5 better players at least to compete in the Premier League. We did not create much at all last night and we have to be reallistic, getting 3 points was fortunate. But we'll take it ..

Simple way of looking at it. I'm sure I read fans saying exactly the same (we need lots of new players if we are to compete in the championship) after we drew with Walsall last year.

I expect the basis and spine of this team to stay with us in the premership, but would expect a few additions. Similar to what Norwich have done.

Snodgrass has been quiet all season, he was brilliant today but it was an above average performances from their whole team.

Snodgrass is basically the leading assister in the division, what are you on about ?

EDIT : Sorry, actually he's third in assists, behind Whittingham and Burke, who he's also scored 3 and 4 more goals than.

If we go up, I'd like to see us get Snodgrass, Whittingham, Clyne and a centre half of real quality. I think that would provide the quality and depth we'll need in the PL. Possibly Matt Phillips too but Holloway seems to be digging in with him.

It doesn't really prove that at all, does it??

Our whole team were below par. The manager has said the preparation was poor.

And we still ground out a win.

That is the worst I have seen us play all season, and Leeds were bang up for it under a new manager. If you're basing next season's team needs on one game, why not base it on our home game against Leeds??

I spent the weekend with Charlton fans on a golfing trip and went to watch the Addicks play the Cherries. They asked me how many changes we made to our League One team to be top of the Championship. And truth is we have made very few.

Here is the team that beat Brentford 3-0 away in League One at the end of last season:

Davis, Richardson, Fonte, Jaidi, Harding, Lallana, Hammond, Chaplow, Guly, Lambert, Connolly

Can these players cut it in the Premiership? For my money, they at have at least earned the opportunity to try...

If we are buying another CM then Jordan Mutch for me every time. Top class. I'd take Curtis Davies too. He is better than Fonte. Phillips is playing up front for Blackpool these days. He'd be on my list too. Out wide Zaha is the best I've seen in this division after Lallana. Quite concerned about our trip to Palace actually.

We already had this discussion about adding players a few weeks ago and I looked up Saints, Swansea and Norwich's teams from w/c 22 Feb in 2011 and 2012.

We've signed lots of new players since we drew with Walsall last year. 4 starters in Hooiveld, Fox, Cork, and one of Lee or Sharp, plus the other of Lee or Sharp and De Ridder in reserve.

Norwich have added 5 players to their starting line up in the past year. I will expect us to add at LEAST 4 players in the summer who are intended to start.

The players in bold are already not starters right now, so we've replaced half of the team - which is not, as you're claiming, "very few changes".

Hammond, Guly, Harding and Connolly have ALL played regulary this season. The only ONE who hasn't is Jaidi - who we all knew was too old.

So the point is valid. Our squad and regularly our first team has been the same this season as last with two changes - Hooveld for Jaidi and Fox for Harding. Which IS very few changes...
