Leeds 0 V Saints 1 Post match Chat!

SOTONS EAST SIDE

Recommended Posts

Worst I've seen us play this season, I reckon, but we still got the points:lol:. Leeds can feel pretty hard done by tonight............On the other hand I feel f ucking great. Brave defending from the boys and Kelvin had the game of his life...Legend. Special mention to Morgan who I thought played very well today and Lambert for a cracking strike.

Watching Warnock turnning purple on the side lines was pretty LOL to:lol:

Don't agree that was our worst. We struggled against Reading, first half against West Ham and more - in fact whoever teams have pressed us with high intensity. Forgotten Bristol City?

But the character and determination saw us through just like it got us a point at Reading.

Thanks guys. I have a young man here who has found details of a Flybe flight from Leeds arriving tonight and is insisting we take him to the Airport!

I hope that you go! let us know how you get on!

Got held up in every way possible en route, but bumped into Rickie, Kelvin and Dan Harding just after we arrived!

The three of them signed the nipper's book and we congratulated them on the result - Rickie was beaming!

Obviously big thanks must go to all three of them for stopping and having a quick chat before heading home :)

I can't remember who said it but some one said we needed 13 away points for promotion we have giot nine so far only four to go . Today I experienced the alpine factor **** it was hard to watch but we are squad that is so together . Even the likes of puncheon is very much a team player at last and fair do's to him for admitting he didn't have a good game loved jos tweet re Leeds police sounds like a real comedian

Just got back. Throat hasn't been this sore after an away day in a while. Cracking result and day out. I'll remember to buy an adults ticket next time, being made to pay for a full price adult ticket on top of my already bought kids one meant I paid 65 quid to watch that today. Worth every penny though. F*cking hate Leeds and their stewards. Jobsworth c*nts.

The gods were with us today. Chaplow had a better second half; more like his old self. Morgan great all day; Davis better than great all day. Hoiveld solid - Ricky's finish sublime and decent shifts from the subs Guly and Hammond. The sort of luck today you need now and again to go up automatically. Reading game is shaping up as massive.

As I said the worse I've seen us play, we were better against Reading IMO and I was (un)lucky enough to miss both Bristol games. I only really go home games so I'm aware I've missed some poor away games. We created one really good goal scoring chance (which we scored) compared to how we play at SMS that was quite shocking. Not to bothered though we won and you can't fault the commitment of the players in defence though........... bally heros the lot of them

Isn't it funny - I didn't think that overall we played bad at all. I thought Puncheon Cork and Guly weren't up to scratch (although Cork played his part in the goal), but everyone else gave 100% against a Leeds team who were really up for the game. It wasn't pretty but it was effective. I was on the edge of my seat for virtually the whole game and was convinced we were going to concede any second and when the final whistle went I felt drained. Really reminded me of what I miss now I live in Australia, and whetted my appetite for the trip over in a couple of weeks :) At this rate the Reading game is going to be MASSIVE! Can't believe I was lucky enough to already have got my tickets as they are going to be rarer than rocking horse poo!

We battled at the back but as we didn't shut them down higher up the park and backing off we made ourselves vulnerable. Leeds most of the time played into our hands by hoisting loads of Lloyd James type balls into the goalmouth. It's an old saying, "Pressure doesn't win matches", today that was true. Leeds had lots of balls pinging around the goal area but created nothing as clear as Lambert's goal after Chaplow, Richardson, Cork, and Lee cut Leeds apart. All Leeds frenetic play culminated in pressurised snatched chances. Davis was in his element, he is undoubtedly if deficient in some areas, a superb shotstopper. His finest moment after one of his forlorn hope charges off his line with no hope of getting the ball was a magnificent double safe and clearing slap at the ball.

We gave far too many silly little fouls away in our half which just added to the pressure. Richardson and Fonte didn't have their best game today and I think Bechio concentrated on Fonte as Hoiveldt is much better in the air. In the end we battled out a win provided by really one of the three clear moves all provided by us that played attackers clear one on one with the goalkeeper. Leeds had pressure but because of the lofted balls weren't able to play through us.

I'm not sure flying up on the day was the most sensible thing to do. Logistically it was the most convenient. I know it was only a fifty minute flight but there are other considerations. Some people are nervous of flying for a start, and even for those who are not, flying provides uncomfortable moments. Leeds is not the most routine airport to fly into. It is the safest way to travel but most people don't relish the flight itself. Going there and back by air on the same day was probably the only cost effective way of doing it, as the aircraft wouldn't have stayed in Leeds if it had been two days. There could have been an effect on some of the players.

I was pleased when Guly got booked late on as it wasted about a minute and I needed a breather from the stress.

As others have said it was the composure of the players that saw us through.

Not sure we'd be top if we'd played like that all season, but again as others have said, Leeds were really up for it.

I see quite few away games and we've rarely shown the same as at home. We can struggle when teams press us hard and play with a high intensity, and Leeds did that very well IMO. But we're showing more defensive grit - I would say largely down to Jos and also Morgon's harder work supporting the back four.

And we had the luck yesterday. But the harder you work, the luckier you get!

This performance and result reminds me of when we played Reading at home, 5 or 6 years ago. We totally and utterly battered them but they stood firm and didn't conceed - they won the league that year, and seeing this sort of result out against the odds fills everyone with belief.

Yes! We battered them but they got a draw and ended up winning the championship that season (16 points above second place and only losing twice). Fair match report still available on the Reading site: http://www.readingfc.co.uk/page/MatchReport/0,,10306~29994,00.html

Goes to show Championship winning teams do play badly every so often.

I still can't quite believe we came through that onslaught with 3 really valuable points last night. Kelvin was magnificent the save from Beccchio, was fantastic when he looked sure to score.

Special mention to Hammond as well I thought he put his body on the line a few times throwing himself in the way to block shots. And that scramble when they hit the bar twice my heart was in my mouth. As said by a few it was great to see Warnock going apoplectic & purple on the side line. Yes we rode our luck last night, but we also have been defending so much better lately & this squad togetherness & spirit will do us well over the run in. One great moment of football won it for us, where we showed our class & Ricky scores with a great volley!

This squad know how to win under pressure, & get the job done. Onward's & upward's

What's the big fuss .... was a stroll in the park.

Back to reality ..... Oh My God how earth did we win that?

AND I had to watch it stone cold sober whilst everybody else was drinking themselves into beleiving what they were seeing really was happening.

Talk about injustice! Poor old Leeds, should have been out of site by HT.

Let's face it we were **** poor and they played us off the park. What happened to our mid-field? It wasn't just Punch & Chappers who were knackered from ko and our defending was little short of a disgrace.

How the toddling Fs are we going to win anything playing like this. Hope we wake up in time for Tuesday.

Thanks Kelvin!

Probably explains everything, the depressurisation and foul atmosphere inside the plane are well known debilitating effects of flying. Nobody feels the same getting off a plane than when they got on, fact.

What an incredibly stupid arrangement; the idiot who dreamed this up needs his Rrse setting on fire!

Surely we are rich enough to drive up on Thursday and stay in a decent hotel with practice pitches for a couple of nights and a real chance of acclimatising.

Get it sorted you plonkers!

I have just remembered that absolute scramble about 5 minutes before the end, brilliant stuff! Me and a mate both agreed that we felt exactly the same on the way home as we did from Oldham away last season, but the results couldn't have been much different. Football is a strange one sometimes.

The flight up on-the-day must what NA means by not right preparation.

I hate flying. I am totally f**king drained after a flight. Maybe this is why the team looked knackered. They hadnt played for a week.

Sure we wont make that mistake again. Hope NA goes a little easier in training and the boys get a couple of good nights sleep before Tuesday.

Glad someone's picked up on Deano's performance when he came on. Defensively I thought he was brilliant. I know one or two others have given Guly a bit of stick for his performance but I don't think he was alone in not holding on to the the ball in advanced positions, but he also worked his socks off getting back to help the defence out. He made a couple of important tackles on the edge of the box.

Thought Puncheon was a spectator on the left and Richardson and Chaplow looked well off the pace. Chappers kept going though and looked shattered at the end. Harding did well when he came on and seemed a more composed presence than Fox.

Anyway nothing more to say that hasn't been said already, great commitment and superb performance from Kelv. COYR.

To be fair Puncheon himself said he was not playing well. He didnt gripe about being taken off, Like the other players on the bench he got behind the team

he has changed his atitude . he will have many good games with saints.

TBF they flooded midfield and overran us in the first half. Hammond and Guly were the right subs at the right time, changing to 4-5-1 made us much more compact, even if it didn't give us control of the game.

Looking back at it in the cold light of day what really, really impressed me was just how cool under pressure we were, as if they just knew that Leeds wouldn't score.

This team is made of seriously stern stuff.

Agree. Thought Leeds made it easier for us as the game went on though. We never looked like being beaten by an aerial bombardment.

£2 for a pint of Black Sheep in the city centre followed by that performance. An awayday to remember.

Hammond yes. Guly was a complete waste of space.

I'm sure there's something in this. An hour or so on reduced oxygen can't have helped their preparation.
