Leeds 0 V Saints 1 Post match Chat!

SOTONS EAST SIDE

Thought Becchio was the best player we've played all season and gave Fonte a torrid time.
every time I seen him he has caused us problems, but strangely we have always won the game. Greta in the air and excellent work rate. Would have preferred him to Sharp to be honest, but perhaps he wasn't available despite Leeds selling players recently.

OMG what an afternoon and game - Kelvin fantastic - watching the players sat in the stand in front of us was amazing. That final free kick Danny Fox was tood up with his hands on his head - you could see he was living the freekick - you can see the team spirit

We were terrible. We did not play well. Leeds were superb. High energy, well organised, first to every second ball. If we were going to win it would take an immense amount of effort, some luck, and to make our quality tell when we had a moment. And that is exactly what happened. Stole a goal, defended like absolute beasts, Davis OUTSTANDING, and a little bit of luck (but not much - Leeds either lacked quality at the right time or our players made last ditch blocks or world class saves - that isn't luck - that is pure desire).

When you don't play well the most important thing is not to give up. And our players never gave up. It was a bad day at the office quality wise, and when you are a team with our talent it is easy to buckle. But we never buckled, we worked incredibly hard and did not allow Leeds to score a goal through sheer will and force. In fact, it went the other way. The defending was ridiculous - I've no idea how we kept them at bay but it is sheer bloody mindedness like that which tells you a lot about the positivity in our group. And Leeds are good at what they do - look at all the goals they score in the last 10mins. At one point I think they had Becchio, McCormack, Webber, Sam, and Snodgrass on the same pitch, and it was wave after wave of attack.

The fans never stopped singing and it was great to be a part of that. It was clear we were being battered so the singing didn't stop for all the second half in a bid to get behind the team. I couldn't begrudge Leeds a victory by 3 clear goals really, but sometimes football works out like this, and it is wins like that which tell you the players want it as much as the fans and that means a lot. Look at the reaction at the end.

The fans were ecstatic, and my voice as gone.

Amazing win.

Great win and KD had a superb game! But we were dire tonight and Leeds battered us. Apart from KD and Rickies goal, we were at our worst that I have seen this season. Was it us playing poorly or was it that we could not cope with the pace that Leeds set?

Wow. Just sensational.

I've never given a 20 out of 10 in a Motm poll and will not start today, Kelvin gets 21.

What a dreadful yet magnificent performance.

6 Saints fans in the pub - a record & found 2 more later lying breathless in a gutter.

EoA has to go & do a night shift and was totally spent BEFORE he started. Around 10 Leeds locals in the Pub needing medication for shock at the end.

Thoughts?

Puncheon really is a disaster starting at LM - clearly we have no cover for AL. JP at least looked like a footballer when he switched to the right.

Great effort by Chaplow to stem the tide, some fantastic tackles/nicks nudges from MS.

Can understand why NA brought on Guly, nearly cost us but today no criticism of any of them.

Heroes across the pitch. That game was won by Heart & Guts and one piece of astonishing skill from Rickie.

Wow. That meant a lot today. We've done to teams what Leeds did to us in the past two years and like Leeds we got Sod all. Karma is a ***** but when it is on your side.

I'll take it.

Kelvin Davis. Astonishing

Super performance by KD today, and also top class by Spiderman who was immense in the middle when all around him were losing their head. RL had one great moment that won the game, but otherwise was off form. Special mention for Chung who as I thought he would played, and set up the winning goal (good cross from Cork as well, although other than that he was ****). Chung must be totally ****ged. We were very fortunate to get 3 points today, because we were frankly rubbish, especially the in the 1st half. Interesting that NA was questioning whether it may have had something to do with the flight up this morning, really do wonder whether flying up morning of game is a good idea.

For those who were bemoaning our away form a few weeks ago, we now have the 4th best away record in the league - fine margins between success and failure.

Not normally one for "me too's", but as others have said, I have a strong feeling that tonight's was a season defining victory; and it indeed feels as significant as Milton Keynes at Home last season.

Immense rearguard action.

Nowhere to hide from the fact that Leeds were superb today, and handed us a proper battering.

Yet, despite the almost relentless battering, we withstood the tidal onslaught of intense pressure. We stood firm, and although our goal mouth was under almost incessant siege, we were not 'ripped apart', as an unbelievable clean sheet will testify.

In a way, our bravery and outstanding resilience tonight, reminded me of Michael Atherton's legendary stand against Allan Donald, at Trent Bridge, back in 1998, as he somehow repelled a fearsome and fiery display of brutal top class fast bowling.

I came away from that amazing day at the Bridge, wondering just how on earth Michael managed to survive, and tonight is a similar feeling.

Club Captain Super Kelvin Davis stood up to everything that was thrown at him today; pulling off some utterly outstanding reaction saves, and just like Atherton's heroics, inspired us to somehow hold out, against all the odds. Special additional honorary mentions must also go to Jos Hooiveld, who was once again an absolute rock at the back, and Morgan Schneiderlin who was exceptional and relentless in midfield. As for Sir Ricky Lambert, well, we've just come to expect brilliance as the norm. :)

Proud of our Team today. Not for the way we played, as who can deny that Leeds were rampant; but, for our courage, tenacity, and sheer determination to stand firm in the face of adversity.

It's the stuff that Champions are made of.

WOW JUST WOW! Kelvin Davis I love you! Play crap and win...thats what Champions do. Im laughing at the West Ham fans..They are saying we are no where near as good as them, they really believe 1st place is their god given right. God I hope Reading finish above them. Im now going to celebrate by trying to get my kids to go to sleep....I KNOW HOW TO PARTY!

I don't think I've ever seen Saints win that badly before. Good stuff, I think. Fair play to Kelvin for playing a blinder. Good set up between Lee and Lambert for the goal and I thought Jos looked a monster in defence again.

Great result and that's all that matters. Let's make it more convincing on Tuesday night.

Do you think they'll fly back to SOU/Bournemouth tonight, or stay overnight up in Leeds?

They are flying back to SOU tonight.

The bad is obvious -so no need tio dwell on it - learn from it and we will improve.... but there were some really good positives from this 'performance'

1. The team spirit: hwatever Adkins has done/says to them as a group or in priviate must be nothing short of miraculaous - since he arrived we are truelyy a TEAM, not just media friendly rhetoric, but it is obvious how they play for each other.

2. Control: ok bare with me on this. We looked a shambles, played diabolically at times and could not cope with the pressure Leeds put us under ( a work rate that they were bound to show the new manager)... BUT, in the past we would have panicked. Today we did not. At times the mid field passed it arround, a tactic that worked in slowing the pace and giving is respite from the onslaught.... in the past we would not have had the confidence to that when we knew we were second best on the day.

3. As Nigel might say, 'today we did not earn the right to play our game' - in truth Leeds did not let us, they were in our faces and worked extremely hard as well as. BUT again we surveived through commitment. We also on a few occaisions did try and play through tehm - perhaps obviously missing Adam, it did not come off, too often passes went astray or we were beaten to it, BUT again, no heads down, no blaming each other.

All in all, there have been plenty more occasions when we have 'battered' sides (this season as well) and come away with nothing, just not our day, so Whist we did not deserve that today, we certainly deserved our share of the victory against the run of play over a season... I guess the way to look at it is 'what should our points total be if we had won the games we should have, and lost those we should have - My guess is it it would be about the same - so no guilt about todays result - part of any season.

No nails left, had to have Mrs C on standby with the homemade defibrilator (piece of flex with a plug on one end) but as I said last week, at this end of teh season its all about the points - we have done enough this season to gain the plaudits for the pretty stuff we know we can play... now its about getting over that line. 12 games lads, 12 games - I think we need 8 wins to guarrantee auto, doable, most definitely. COYS - you did us proud today.

How many games have we dominated away this season and come back empty handed? Today was the complete opposite! As has been said the stuff of champions and very much like mk dons last season. KD was simply unbelievable, me and my mates were commenting today before the game how he might not be prem quality. Almost fate that he proved us wrong today. Great goal by Rickie, who cares how many chances you create when we have sir rick to bang in our only chance

Against a team that's defensively frail we played incredibly deep and just invited them to attack but the fact is they just weren't good enough to turn possession into goals and when they threatened we had top quality from KD. Saints were also very lopsided second half with no balance on the right. Nonetheless this does feel like a season defining performance. I was reminded tonight of something Pardew said after he left which was that Saints would do well because they were a team of winners. Wouldn't want to tempt fate by making predictions but this was a fixture I was worried about and we've come away as winners.

We were battered by a Leeds team very high on energy. I thought we lacked composure and hoofed / cleared the ball to invite further pressure on to us.

That said, we stole a goal and parked the bus. Lovely to see us win using the tactics others employed against us at SMS during our tenure in L1!

Amazing team spirit, winning ugly has never felt so good.

Agree with just about all of the above. Determination, grit and confidence. And SKD of course.

Didn't we mug Leeds once before in the old Division 1 days? Seem to remember we went up there, defended stoically for 89 1/2 minutes and Ron Davies got our winner.

Great post Frank.

Also needed the Defib (but for future Mrs D_P) while down the pub. Luckily for her there were plenty of volunteers for CPR.

For once I couldn't have given a flying banana's simply couldn't take my eyes off the telly

Worst I've seen us play this season, I reckon, but we still got the points:lol:. Leeds can feel pretty hard done by tonight............On the other hand I feel f ucking great. Brave defending from the boys and Kelvin had the game of his life...Legend. Special mention to Morgan who I thought played very well today and Lambert for a cracking strike.

Watching Warnock turnning purple on the side lines was pretty LOL to:lol:

Back from the game. Totally emotionally exhausted. Amazing game. Credit to Leeds, they pressured us, didn't let us play but we showed such character, stole a goal and rode our luck. And we had Kelvin.

Was in the Leeds family stand and screamed when we scored. Managed to turn it into a cry of anguish and got away with it, just. :)

That's the stuff promotion is made of.
