Our goal difference

Our goal difference at present is worth a point extra over all the teams in the league,although this only really applies to the teams at the top in particular.

Along with many on here,I am sure I am right in saying, if it comes down to gd for a top 2 finish,most of us on here will have had all of our nerves totally shredded by 4.55 pm on saturday 28th of April.

I think it's a 1pm kick off. Anyway if it's a top two finish, level on points, and with goal difference to decide on separating the teams, I wouldn't give a stuff, because either way we'll be going up. That said, ours is better for a reason, tight defence and quality goalscoring options.

Who can forget the last game of last season - 3 points clear of 3rd place, and gd so superior that Saints could only be overtaken if they lost and Huddersfield won by 15 or so goals.

 

That made it a very stress-free last day.

Maybe goal difference should be transfered into points. For every +10 at the end of the season you get an extra point.

Then you are ahead of them on goal difference, but it's not "worth a point" because if somebody else comes in and gets a point more than both of you, they finish above you.

I think we all know what the OP means.....I think he was saying..if we all finish level on points...we have an added advantage of having the best goal difference..which means at that time it is like having an extra point

Fair enough, I was just being difficult really.

 

It is a massive boost to see it there, and I have a feeling we may be watching the goal difference very carefully at the end of next month, makes me nervous just thinking about it.

West Ham will lose 6 points, we will lose 1.

 

Would people take that against the loss of our beloved rivals?

I did not put my point over very well,but in the final reckoning if our goal difference is the best in the league and we finish level on points with Reading or who ever,then it is very relevant.Mark [Dark Munster] hits it on the head and explains it far better than myself[then he is a Proffesser of Literature],when he says hopefully we will go into the final game,with a similar scenario tro the last game last season.

Actually, I'm a Prof in maths, so I know a little bit about numbers (but not much about literature!)

 

brmbrm is right, our huge g.d. is worth any fraction of a point in the open interval (0,1).
