Bad Wolf Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 I know he hasn't for us in his 2 and a half years of taking our pens. Was he penalty taker for any of his old clubs and did he ever miss, anyone know?
dubai_phil Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 Arrrrrrrghhhhhhhhh Noooooooooooooooooo That's gawn & dunnit
Sheaf Saint Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 Arrrrrrrghhhhhhhhh Noooooooooooooooooo That's gawn & dunnit Exactly what I was thinking!
ohwhenthesaints Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 My Bristol Rovers supporting mate reckons he didn't miss one for them either.
Appy Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 Missed one against Leicester for Bristol Rovers just before he joined us. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_2/7886213.stm
Islander Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 I was wondering this the other day. How many has he scored for us now? We've been lucky with penalty takers over the years with Le Tiss and David Peach.
Appy Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 I was wondering this the other day. How many has he scored for us now? We've been lucky with penalty takers over the years with Le Tiss and David Peach. Pretty sure Beattie didn't miss one too.
St Lej Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 I've read somewhere that he missed one for rovers
beavis17 Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 I've read somewhere that he missed one for rovers 4 posts above yours?
Lighthouse Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 Don't think Crouch missed one either. Neither did Vignal or Pahars.
Kingsland Red Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 David McGoldrick was the best entertainment for the neutral, the stylish way he stroked the ball into the keeper's hands every time. I've often wondered how much better we would have done if someone else had taken them as from memory he missed a hat full.
kpturner Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 Next penalty - missed. Guaranteed. Well done OP
Fan The Flames Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 I know he was upset when he lost the sheaffer his gran bought him for his 14th birthday.
John B Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 I always expect him to score with his Penalties perhaps PL Goalies may have better luck next season but I doubt it Any idea of the ratio of Penalties Scored to Penalties missed in the Championship
jawillwill Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 Don't think Jermaine Wright or Calum Davenport ever missed any for us either.
John B Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 Surprising how many Penalties Liverpool have missed http://lfcstats.co.uk/missedpenalties.html
Window Cleaner Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 Surprising how many Penalties Liverpool have missed http://lfcstats.co.uk/missedpenalties.html Surprsingly enough Reading are the penalty miss kings of the NPC, think they've scored about 1 out of 5. http://www.statbunker.com/football/btb/index.php?PL=competition&CompID=370&statType=teampen
Saint_Donovan Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 I think I've read twice that he missed one for Rovers
timb289 Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 Neither did Vignal or Pahars. Neither did Gary Monk
saints_is_the_south Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 Was thinking about this too and was going to start a thread after Saturday's game but never got round to it. Lambert is the best penalty taker I've ever seen, even better than MLT imo. He hits the ball so accurately and even if the keeper gets a hand to it (Carlisle at Wembley for example) the power he puts behind em any keeper is going to find hard to stop.
saintrich Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 Surprising how many Penalties Liverpool have missed http://lfcstats.co.uk/missedpenalties.html Michael Owen missed 10 of them. mental.
Hamilton Saint Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 Michael Owen missed 10 of them. mental. I presume you mean that it's a mental thing - i.e., a matter of self-confidence; in which case I agree with you. Lambert radiates an aura that says, "This is going in - there's no way you're going to stop me!" James Beattie had the same attitude. He would put the ball down on the spot and, without looking at the keeper, would walk back a few steps, turn around briskly, and hammer the ball into the net. Yes, mental toughness is a big part of being a successful penalty-taker.
JackFrost Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 Don't think Jermaine Wright or Calum Davenport ever missed any for us either. or Allaeddine Yahia

lettuce Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 I know he was upset when he lost the sheaffer his gran bought him for his 14th birthday. Well I ROFL'd
austsaint Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 Leon Best's miss against Derby is the one I remember. Sir Ricky's technique is extraordinary.
GazzerMaBoy Posted 1 March, 2012 Posted 1 March, 2012 Saw Rickie miss a penalty against Bart at the end of a training session on the Sponsors Day at St Mary's back at the end of November. Adkins commented to the crowd "now that's not something you're going to see very often".
MongoNeil Posted 1 March, 2012 Posted 1 March, 2012 I think I've read twice that he missed one for Rovers Well I've read it three times :-p
The9 Posted 1 March, 2012 Posted 1 March, 2012 Makes you wonder how we arsed up the shootout up at Derby...
eesti matty Posted 2 March, 2012 Posted 2 March, 2012 Pretty sure Beattie didn't miss one too. Whilst not in a competitive game, Beattie missed a penalty in a friendly against GAIS in Sweden in 2004.
BARCELONASAINT Posted 2 March, 2012 Posted 2 March, 2012 Le Tiss only ever missed 1 pen during his career. Rickie has an excellent record and is up there with the best but Le Tiss is/was the best!
Cabrone Posted 2 March, 2012 Posted 2 March, 2012 Makes you wonder how we arsed up the shootout up at Derby... Struggling to think of the last time we missed a pen, was that game the last time we missed?
Dimond Geezer Posted 2 March, 2012 Posted 2 March, 2012 21 of his 80 goals for us from pens. All scored If he had missed any, they wouldn't have counted towards his goal tally.
Window Cleaner Posted 2 March, 2012 Posted 2 March, 2012 Struggling to think of the last time we missed a pen, was that game the last time we missed? Ooh no, we missed 2 in one game during our relegation season, against Watford I think.
Mozz Posted 2 March, 2012 Posted 2 March, 2012 Didn't DMG miss one against Swansea or Burnley at home towards the end of that season?
jawillwill Posted 3 March, 2012 Posted 3 March, 2012 Liverpool have missed 8 penalties this season according to MotD. Just out of interest, does anyone here know how far back you have to go back to see Saints 8th last penalty miss?
Lighthouse Posted 3 March, 2012 Posted 3 March, 2012 Le Tissier V Crossley? We've missed loads since then. Under the Dutch Duo it seemed like Wotton, DMG and Surman were missing them every week. Euell, Quashie and Rasiak have all missed too.
Saint_clark Posted 3 March, 2012 Posted 3 March, 2012 We've missed loads since then. Under the Dutch Duo it seemed like Wotton, DMG and Surman were missing them every week. Euell, Quashie and Rasiak have all missed too. I'm not sure it's as many as you'd think, actually.
Kingsland Codger Posted 3 March, 2012 Posted 3 March, 2012 Quashie's miss at QPR (hit the post) in what proved to be Theo's last Saints game was the first official miss since Sideways Jim several seasons before. I say 'official' because Quashie failed with one at St Marys against Norwich (?) but it had to be retaken for encroachment and he scored with the second bite. After that it was a sorry tale of misses as Lighthouse points out on post 40 above.
