hypochondriac Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 Excellent choice from Pearce. Really pleased it isn't Gerrard. Will be interesting to see how we play.
supersonic Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 best choice. I don't really see how a keeper can be an effective on-field captain. Gerrard is injury prone and tends to go hiding a lot. Parker has been consistently the best English player for a while
SuperMikey Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 Good choice for the short-term, but long-term? Parker will only really be in the England squad for around another 3 years. Who will pick up the mantle in 3 years time?
Thedelldays Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 i really fail to understand why, in england, we make such a massive deal on who is captain......

Lets B Avenue Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 i really fail to understand why, in england, we make such a massive deal on who is captain...... Why has Andrew Strauss been dropped?
mdearlove Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 it will change again when the new manager comes in anyway - would have gone with Hart. He is pretty much the only player with a decent temperament who will start every game. Casillas has done pretty well for a GK captain
Thedelldays Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 god. they are going into melt down on talksport about this....lol why does it matter SO much who is captain
dinger Posted 29 February, 2012 Posted 29 February, 2012 god. they are going into melt down on talksport about this....lol why does it matter SO much who is captain It doesn't seem to matter outside of the England national team. And even that's a recent development. 4 or 5 years ago nobody really cared. I think it became an issue around the time the armband was given to Beckham, not that I particularly blame him. But the media-cult that built up around him seemed to absorb the notion of captaincy into itself, meaning that subsequent captains are viewed as Heirs to His Greatness, and are thus subject to the same hyper-scrutiny/criticism that was pioneered with Beckham. It's a shame this has become another of the many media driven side-shows which are allowed detract and distract from the simple joy of International football, particularly in England.
