Crouchie's Lawyer Posted 28 February, 2012 Share Posted 28 February, 2012 Did anyone see this? http://www.groupon.co.uk/deals/london/west-ham-united-fc/3589848 Something doesnt seem right with this as they are implying it would normally cost £86 for 2 WHU tickets? They appear to be standard tickets too! That's £43 for a ticket to see them play!? Started me thinking what other deals on Groupon are a load of tosh which you can get direct or elsewhere for the same price as they advertise as a discount?! I have nothing against Groupon or West Ham (other than not wanting them to finish above us this year) but why advertise such a hefty discount? Anyone know what their standard adult ticket prices are? Wouldnt have thought they would have been anymore than £30?

I wouldn't worry too much about it, I honestly don't think groupon will be finishing above us
Cascadia Saint Posted 29 February, 2012 Share Posted 29 February, 2012 Wow, West Ham must be desperate for every single penny. (Like we didn't already know that). This Groupon offers savings of up to 53% off tickets... I've had some dealings with Groupon in the US, and the thing to remember is that the business doesn't get all the money from the deal, not by a long shot. I've known of businesses that have received anything from 50% to nothing (yes, nothing... - Groupon used to tell people it was worth it to 'drive awareness'), while Groupon pocket the rest. All of which means that even if (best scenario) West Ham are getting 50% of the cash from the deal, they are really only getting about 23% of the full price of the tickets. (Full price - £86 for 2, Groupon deal - £40 for 2, Cash for the sham - £20 for 2 at best.) I guess desperate times really do call for desperate measures. Crouchie's Lawyer Posted 29 February, 2012 Author Share Posted 29 February, 2012 I have heard similar things about Groupon. They ask for a cut of the 'sale' price from the vendors who use Groupon. This would echo the theory that vendors who use Groupon may not offer a real discount because if they are already reducing the price to attract new business, they will not want to give half of the already reduced price of their goods to a third party unless they were running a loss leader with the intention of getting repeat business. Would make sense for a Football Club or Hair Salon when using Groupon because there is a good chance of getting repeat business on both accounts but vendors who offer one off products with little chance of getting repeat business? I wonder what they get out of it?
Jonnyboy Posted 29 February, 2012 Share Posted 29 February, 2012 That should mean that if you went direct to the vender and said give me £5 off and we'll skip groupon they should be keen to do that?? Ive had restaurants say theyd do the same deal direct with me.
Andy_Porter Posted 1 March, 2012 Share Posted 1 March, 2012 I got asked to do a Groupon type offer for KGB deals. They take 50% + Vat off total income and then pay you 60 days later Can imagine what my reply was, you'd have to be seriously desperate to sign up to those terms.
