trousers Posted 27 February, 2012 Share Posted 27 February, 2012 (edited) My son's 12th birthday coincides with the last game of the season and I'm thinking of having a bit of a family/friends do in hospitality. For those that have done something similar before, is hospitality conducive to celebrating a 12 year old's birthday or it is more of a 'blokes in suits' environment? I'm not talking a 'balloon and cake' event here but just somewhere different for him to enjoy his birthday with a few friends and family. Cheers for any feedback. Also, do you think it's worth paying extra for the silver packager over bronze? (i.e. £75+VAT vs £40+VAT) (p.s. I have already contacted the hospitality dept at the club and it sounds OK but just wanted to tap into any experience people have had on here with this age group) Edited 27 February, 2012 by trousers
simo Posted 27 February, 2012 Share Posted 27 February, 2012 Not worth the extra money did bronze with my boy boxing day ! No food , long queues for drinks and toilets (missed the start of the second half) and the drinks were about 250 for half a coke

The silver package includes a "sumptuous buffet" but for an extra £35 quid I'm not convinced! cheers for the feedback though - appreciated. Maybe Boxing Day was a bit different to usual given it was the Christmas period and all that (i.e. maybe not as much staff on duty etc)?
oracle saint Posted 27 February, 2012 Share Posted 27 February, 2012 Have tried both silver and bronze. If it's bronze and a popular match it's almost impossible to get a drink until after the match - the last bronze I did was Brighton and the pre-match bar queue was about 6 deep. Silver tends to be a bit more relaxed as you place your drinks orders at the table. However the food - although not bad - isn't really worth the extra. On the plus side the seats and the views are good and if your boy is a Saints fan one of the players appears after the match and he'd probably get an autograph. There are usually a few families attending so it's not exclusively corporate suits. Note there's a dress code - no denims (theoretically anyway) although I managed to get my USA guests in wearing jeans and as a result we now have another 2 Saints fans in California. Redondo Saint Posted 27 February, 2012 Share Posted 27 February, 2012 I've not used the the Bronze package but can recommend Silver. Yes it is pricey after all things considered, but it is a relaxed atmosphere, easy to get a drink, food is okay and the seats are next to the directors box. It's more of a smart casual event than corporate. If you let the staff know it is his b day I am sure they will announce it on stage and maybe give him something. iansums Posted 27 February, 2012 Share Posted 27 February, 2012 Cheers I went to the Derby match in the Silver package. It's ideal for your 12 year old, they'll make a fuss of him and he'll get to meet one or two players.
Brussels Saint Posted 27 February, 2012 Share Posted 27 February, 2012 Would go Silver for this. Also one thing not mentioned, is that if we go up, all the corporate seating is right behind the directors box where the players come out to celebrate with Cortese wave at the fans on the pitch and lift the trophy. Trust me, your son will love that, it's an unbelievable experience for any Saints fan. .........of course, if we are only looking at play offs the game might be a damp squib
simo Posted 27 February, 2012 Share Posted 27 February, 2012 As someone said above maybe try silver then as bronze is nothing special but its deffo something to do at least once , the cushoned seats were good mind you !
SoccerMom Posted 28 February, 2012 Share Posted 28 February, 2012 I did Silver for my nipper's birthday last year. Not only did they give him free stuff and a proper pic with Ricky and Barnard (sent on later by the club), he also got autographs from Steve Claridge and Stuart Pearce, who were both in the bar. He was made up.

SoccerMom Posted 28 February, 2012 Share Posted 28 February, 2012 He was too scared, or so he said. Wasn't too scared to ask Psycho for his autograph, though....
AussieDog Posted 29 February, 2012 Share Posted 29 February, 2012 Doing the bronze package for Doncaster Pompey and Reading. Will be our 2 girls first ever game when we play Doncaster (they are my stepkids and this will be the first time they have ever left Australia). Depending on how they enjoy the 1st game I might take a couple of mates to the Pompey game instead if I don't think I have converted them into true Saints fans...lol...would much rather true fans got to see that game. Any idea what the hours are for the package? I'm tempted to take them into a proper pub (they are 19 and 16 and that will be another first for them lol) before the game and then to just enjoy the hospitality afterwards.
