Lambert and Graham

Monk

As daft as it sounds, it's also pretty logical. Name another striker that's been as prolific over the past couple of years and you're probably talking about someone who is A) not English and B) Has already been thought of.

That said, if it's going to be between those two, you imagine it's Graham, simply because he's a Premier League player.

Chamberlain isn't a striker though. I'd imagine they're looking for an out and out goal scorer similar to Bent.

Graham is a good shout though.

I meant it more of a bit of perspective not like for like comparison.

Rickie Lambert will not be playing for England any time soon. I will streak through St Mary's during our next home game if proven otherwise. He is a wonderful f**king player, our wonderful f**king player but international? Cover me in honey and call me Mary that's not a f**king possibility.

Theo is an experienced international and terrific player. Where has this stuff against him come from? Seems to be the fashion to write him off these days. He's one of the biggest threats in an inconsistent and often poor side, still a fantastic player who'd be in huge demand if he was to leave.

he is anything but right now....his form is appalling and does not deserved to be picked what so ever

Nothing against Theo, but AOC has been playing a lot better than him

Lambert is a fantastic footballer, oh how I LOL at the f*cking divs who were slagging him off a little over a year ago as being a lazy c*nt whose legs had gone. Technically he is first class, his touch, control, vision and finishing are premier league class. There is no doubt here is a player who has been good for a club but also a club that has been good for a player. RL has always been a good goal scorer but in the last 2 season show he is also a great footballer,he is fitter and sharper now than he's ever been and the best striker in the championship because of us, We've got the best out of him. But i love Rl because hes a good guy as well as a good player. If it wasn't for SFC rickie lambert would still be in league one, wondering what might have been, if it wasn't for RIckie Lambert SFc might be as well, a match made In heaven.

Good post! What Turkish said.

It really is kinda a pipe dream, lala land if you like, the idea that RL will get an England call up, but if it happened, I'm sure that no Saints fan would begrudge him the chance, we'd probably all believe he could put a good shift in, he is that good. Unfortunately Rickie Lambert to most football fans is "that big lad in the lower leagues who scores a **** load of goals". And he plays for Southampton, one of the least fashionable clubs going, yea we might be winning all the time and that helps the image, but still.

Well I don't agree. It's just an opinion, but when I've watched them he's still been one of their most likely to make something happen. His form has never dipped to Arshavin, Rosicky or Gervinho standards. He'll pick up and people will pretend they weren't slagging him off all season. We've already dropped him for a major tournament and put in pathetic performances. I want him in the team, let alone the squad.

adrian...he has been utterly shocking lately........hopefully that will change today

will be tragic, bale walcott and OxO on the same pitch...NOT playing for saints

Is Rickie good enough, with out doubt he is, will it happen unfortunately not........I'd love it though

Never mind our thoughts on the matter I'd be so chuffed for Rickie, he seems such a down to earth guy I think he might spontaneously combust with pride and I think he'd put in a hell of a lot more effort than some of the overpaid premier league chancers.

Bothroyd, Nugent and Campbell. If these guys can get in squads so can Lambert. The question is whether SFC want or need the hype that would inevitably surround this, a quick turn around from League 1 to the national squad would get all sorts of horrible little journalists in his face. We don't need that IMO.

I saw them at the Emirates when Arsenal won 7-1. They both played very well but Oxo was different class. Every time he touched the ball the crowd was buzzing.

Theo was great too though, was good to think they both came for Saints! (though I wish we still had them)

I sincerely hope Rickie doesn't get a call-up. It would be the worst possible time for the inevitable drop in form that would accompany it.

Or a massive boost for the team coming into the run up,it could go either way?,iif RL did get a call up it could do wonders for the team as they may believe that playing for saints the possibilities are endless

In a selfish way I do not want Rickie being called up for England and having his head turned by c*cks like Rooney with how great the wages they are getting at their Premiership club and as an England international now he should be expecting so much more or should be turning out for a so called bigger club. Seen it before with Saints players and unfortunately will probably will see it again.

... Thibk its a shame for someone like Lambert that he obviously was not 'spotted' as a raw talent when 22, 23 and then got to work with decent top level coaches when younger - had he doen so, think he has teh talent and physique to have been up there with a Shearer.. cant see Pearce having gone for 'youth' picking a 30 year old for his first cap... and as much as someone like Lambo deserves his moment in the spotlight simply for working so hard these last 3 seasons and getting probably into the best shape of his life... does go against the idea that we should really be developing the next generation for England now

don't be daft.....holt is as good as lambert and is now proven in the prem

I think Lambert is better. How many starts has Holt made this season and how many goals, is it double figures? If we were to get to the PL I can't see Lambert being on the bench much.

holt has been brilliant for norwich this season...if lambert gets as many goals next season in the prem as holt will get he would have had a fantastic season

Holt has started most games, and I believe he's scored 12 or 13 goals in all comps - he's up there with the leading goal scorers in the PL anyway.

if I was a norwich fan and lambert got in ahead of Holt...I would be furious
I get where you're coming from but they are different types of player. Holt is more in the Sharp mould. Rickie (with the possible exception of Andy Carroll) is probably the closest to a Shearer type English player there is at the moment. Not of course trying to stretch anybody's imagination enough to say that Rickie is in AS's class.

It hardly proves he's up there with the top goal scorers. 15th on the list and fewer than half the league goals scored by the top goalscorer. He's a good player, in my opinion Lambert is better. If Holt's so valuable to Norwich why have 10 of his appearances this season been from the bench, or has he been carrying an injury or something?
