kwsaint Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 Comfortable win. Watford just played hoofball. Jos immense. Rickie Lambert clinical. Lee a bit unlucky not to get a goal in the second half Just wish that they turned the tannoy down a bit - it was like being at a gig
channonball Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 Jos and Lambert were outstanding. Watford didn't force a save from Davies all game that I can remember. Sat in the Watford end and they were saying we were sh*t but I think that had more to do with the surface. It was absolutely terrible, they shouldn't be allowed to share with rugby teams at this level. Lee missed a sitter but generally played well and put himself about a bit. Still worried if Lambert gets injured as I'm not sure the ball will stick with Lee and Sharpe. Connoly isn't up to it anymore in my view. I popped in the pub for a quick one and thought was funny the number of fans from different clubs in the same place. Each team were singing songs at each other. I then saw the Liverpool team at Watford station getting abuse from the Saints fans (well mainly the Skate Johnson). Very funny.

kpturner Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 To be fair - we played a lot of hoofball also. Maybe under instructions if the pitch wasn't up to much after the rugby that gets played on it.
del boy Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 To be fair - we played a lot of hoofball also Its not hoofball if we do it - its putting the ball in the right areas
Scarface Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 Thought we controlled it, they were ****e and we were average. Good run starting to develop Jos was solid. Chappers put in a good shift Never a penalty in a million years though will take it though
B Rabbit Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 Who? It's amazing that, despite being our first choice goalie for god knows how many years....mongs still can't get his name right.
channonball Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 liverpool, Cardiff, Saints and a few Watford fans all in the Wetherspoons in the town centre. It's pretty close to Wembley.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 Unimpressed with Lee and Puncheon - lots of huff and puff but no real impact from either. Watford v poor and we did our job professionally. Worried about Lambert and Lallana's injuries. A good day and a good result but we will have plenty sterner tests.
Alanh Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 Good win but a pretty poor game. We controlled things all over the park but never really got our fluid passing game going. Lallana going off probably affected that as much as the pitch which looked rough and Puncheon wasn't anywhere near as effective as he has been at home recently. Lambert and Lee caused their defence problems all match and their main solution was to punt the ball long, but without anyone up front who the ball would stick to. I thought Schneiderlin had a very good game; he battled for everything in midfield and was generally the one looking to make the passes rather than just lump it forward. The penalty was soft. It didn't look like Lee was going to make the ball. Hopefully AL and RL injuries aren't too serious as Leeds will be much tougher than this match was
paulwantsapint Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 We beating teams who play badly or we forcing teams to play badly?
ooh it's a corner Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 We beating teams who play badly or we forcing teams to play badly? feels like the start of the season again, when every opposing manager bemoaned their "off day". top stuff

Chappers put in a good shift Never a penalty in a million years though will take it thoughI thought it was definitely a pen. Lee went for the rebound and got shoved over.
John Boy Saint Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 Unimpressed with Lee and Puncheon - lots of huff and puff but no real impact from either. Watford v poor and we did our job professionally. Worried about Lambert and Lallana's injuries. A good day and a good result but we will have plenty sterner tests. Tad harsh on Lee there methinks I thought he kept the Watford back line on their toes especially when he was retrieving lost causes. Diving for a header and getting a pen as a result was inspired. Puncheon didn't seem at the races today doesn't look comfortable on the left. It does make me smile when folks say our opposition was poor forgetting that in reality, invariably, we are superior. Moon under Water was a wheeze pre match, very noisy as the ale went down: a couple of Lads on Jaegerbombs not long after 12 you had to feel that they will be in dire need of a recharge around 4:15. Grand day out all in all.
kpturner Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 Unimpressed with Lee and Puncheon - lots of huff and puff but no real impact from either. Apart from the fact that it was Puncheon's superb cross field pass to lambert who headed it to Lee who should have scored but won a penalty instead. I actually thought Lee had a great game. Good runs and great "toe-in" tackles especially in the second half.
Scarface Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 feels like the start of the season again, when every opposing manager bemoaned their "off day". top stuff Fair but we did not play our fluid best...... For example I felt the first 50 minutes at Brighton was a better performance, fluid and passed it around well.
St_Tel49 Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 (edited) I only listened on the radio but Merrington was adamant that the pitch was so bad that Saints could not play their normal game and were quite right to adopt that tactics that we did. He was clear that our instructions were to get the ball into their half and then look to feed off the knock downs. Lees energy and movement was why he was played ahead of Sharp. He suited that tactic better. Speaking personally, I like it when we take a pragmatic approach to a game. At this stage (or any stage for that matter) there are no promotion points for style. saintoaks Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 Enjoyable day, easy journey in the, had a few beers in the odd fellows then onto the game. Kusach had a mare for the first goal and lamberts second was very good. Saints fans very vocal all game watfords fans were an embarrassment. Didn't hear one song from them. Great reaction from saints players in front of us when third goal went in. Overall pleasing day. One last thing, was loving the rave just before the game started ! Well done lads....sha la la
markr27 Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 (edited) Watford were dreadful, cannot remember them having more than a couple of chances all game and none were on target. Saints came and although they didn't play well, got the job done. Couldn't help but chuckle at the 4 Police Officers patrolling the East Stand in case of "crowd trouble". Me thinks that there is a waiting list for overtime at Home games....... Edited 25 February, 2012 by markr27

Saint Charlie Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 Pitch meant our tactics were spot on. Lee had a great game, lots of movement and a quality first touch. Lambert superb, Hooiveld and Fox close behind. Injuries seemed very minor, certainly RLs.
kpturner Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 Soccer AM in the morning followed by a short trip up the road to Watford to watch a 3-0 win. Great day all round. Had to pursuade a steward to let us out for a pint before the game once we realised no alcohol on sale in the ground.
View From The Top Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 An easier 3pts we will never get away from home. Pitch awful, Watford's support was beyond poor.
ladysaint Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 Had an interesting day today accompanied a friend who had tickets for the directors box and ended up sitting behind NC who seemed to enjoy the game applauding Lamberts goals and the teams performance, apparently he doesn't make many away games. No way was that a pen but many have been and not been given this season. Terrible match but the 3 points were all that mattered. Highlight of the day was seeing Rick wakeman didn't realise he was a Watford fan. The saints fans came across really noisey and looked good from where we were.
Sour Mash Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 An easier 3pts we will never get away from home. Pitch awful, Watford's support was beyond poor. Imagine being a Watford fan? I'm loyal, but f**k bothering with that. Were we ever that bad either on or off the pitch?

Sour Mash Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 Its not hoofball if we do it - its putting the ball in the right areas We hoofed it plenty. One of our worst displays for passing it on the deck for a long time (not that I give a f**k). Couldn't really tell from where I was stood, but pitch didn't look great.

Not sure I'd even recognise rick wakeman now - he presumably doesn't have the same hair or dress sense of the last time i saw him playing with Yes 30 years or so ago!! Him and Elton could put on a pretty good keyboards only gig!! From the commentary and reports on here it seems the pitch was awlful, but for once we had a game plan, although not pretty to suit it. People saying watford were rubbish should bear in mind that maybe we nullified their strengths and made them look bad. as somebody else said - we were superior to them. They have only lost once in the last previous 12 home games going back to October (to in form Reading) so this is a good well earned victory. Bonus WHU dropping 2 more points at home *( 4 in last 2 home games and were booed off!!) and Dex getting 2 at Brum. Pity Boro couldn't hold Reading to a draw though. A good weekend after the disappointing mid week results.
dannysfc Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 Just got back as we didn't hang around after the game tbh as I may hang around after one of the home games tbh! Was a Good professional win against Watford who looked awful in every department tbh and all goals by Rickie were Excellent including the penalty which was Good n hopefully Rickie n Lalanna will be fighting fit and raring to go before the next game at Leeds next week which will be another test for us compared to today n will be Happy with a draw up there tbh But we'l see! Also was Good that Palace did us a favour at West Ham n also seeing teams around us like Birmingham n that drop points v Forest n Reading could be up there or there abouts as well But we'l see! Bring on Leeds next! COYR!!!

Joesaint Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 Did not go to the game but was on the train from london and although most saints fans are fine a few could not handle there drinks. Violence and verbal abuse when small children are on a carrage is just wrong.

rich saints Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 back for about an hr took my 6 year old girl to first away game good day all round untill saints fans started fighting on train on way home so we moved quick.she never saw it but why do we have to play up could off ruined a great day up the saints and she wants to come again
ladysaint Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 Apparently a Brentford fan he must of came to watch the Saints!
Sour Mash Posted 25 February, 2012 Posted 25 February, 2012 I fear Reading. That Friday game will be f******g massive.
Turkish Posted 26 February, 2012 Posted 26 February, 2012 I fear Reading. That Friday game will be f******g massive. They are looking good but out of all the run ins I'd choose ours, they and West Ham have some tough gams ahead. It really is in our hands.
Chez Posted 26 February, 2012 Posted 26 February, 2012 I fear Reading. That Friday game will be f******g massive.worry rather than fear. They are the best side I've seen against us. Play well and we can beat anyone.
Whitey Grandad Posted 26 February, 2012 Posted 26 February, 2012 I thought Rick Wakeman was a skate supoorter. We bumped into him on the way to the Dell back in the 70s. We were playing Spurs that day and my mate asked him if he was a Tottenham supporter and he said "not really, I just go to a few games".
deadpanmatt Posted 26 February, 2012 Posted 26 February, 2012 It's amazing that, despite being our first choice goalie for god knows how many years....mongs still can't get his name right. Don't be so pedontic.
Saint_clark Posted 26 February, 2012 Posted 26 February, 2012 Don't be so pedontic. I pray to god that was typed ironically.
wagon 84 Posted 26 February, 2012 Posted 26 February, 2012 Got to say was a bit ****ed when there were plenty of empty seats at the front when told our section was sold out? ok these were suppose to be family seats but what a load of ****e!. also i did notice the netting (500 seat ish) were on our side of the section when its clear for everyone to see the watford side was half empty! so why not put it there side? im not sure why clubs like watford do this, they only do themselves out of revenue..
ericofarabia Posted 26 February, 2012 Posted 26 February, 2012 They are looking good but out of all the run ins I'd choose ours, they and West Ham have some tough gams ahead. It really is in our hands. Isn't a gam a slang expression for a BJ? Regarding easy run ins - just as well our run in didn't start with the away game at Brizzle City. The next 10 games produced W3 D2 L5. On paper even a Conservative guess of 20 points was easily obtainable but instead we got 11. Brizzle City A 0-2 Hull City H 2-1 Donny A 0-1 Blackpool H 2-2 Cheatsmuff A 2-2 Palarse H 2-0 Brizzle City H 0-1 Shyton A 0-3 Forrest A 3-0 Leicester H 0-2 Having gone through that slump and maybe taking subconciously games as a given, may help in the final run in, and make us stay totally focused throughout, similar to the way we held off the challenge from Huddersfield last season. Feeling very positive myself that NA and his backroom staff plus the experienced pros in the team will see us through.
70's Mike Posted 26 February, 2012 Posted 26 February, 2012 I fear Reading. That Friday game will be f******g massive. thing is they may have to win, we just have to not lose
jamesb Posted 26 February, 2012 Posted 26 February, 2012 It's amazing that, despite being our first choice goalie for god knows how many years....mongs still can't get his name right. I know, I mean how many more games till people learn his name!
