Help me out here - the lyrics for our version of the 'EIEIEIO' song please.

... and well done my Saints !

EIEIEIO

Off to football 'ere we go

And when we get promoted

this is what we'll sing

We are Southampton, we are Southampton

Adkins is our king

last line can get flipped to Nigel Adkin's king, depending on who you're next two.

Lord knows which version is right :-)

The first sentance is "up the football league we go"!

I thought that it would be good to cast an eye back to this thread and the OP and some of the ensuing posts:-

Realistic Expectations for the rst of the season...

Well, what do we think?

Realistically, i think you'd be a brave man to back us to make the top 2 now. Of course facts are facts, and we are still second in the league. But i think you have to dig deeper than that.

Firstly, obviously we're not winning and haven't been since November. That is a long time and the only reason we're still up there is because teams like Cardiff and Boro have constantly failed to capitalise on our poor results. We seem to have totally lost the knack of winning. If you're not playing well, a top 2 side still manages to grind out 1-0 wins - look at West Ham. We just don't have the ability to keep it tight when it counts.

Some will say that that is down to recent injuries Fonte and Hoovield, but i'd be questioning the midfield who offer our back 4 absolute naff all protection. Has anyone else noticed the number of times the opposition have got 4+ players running full tilt at our back-peddling back 4? As much as i like Cork and Morgan, they don't command the midfield anything like the level we need them to at the minute. Hammond is a must start for me from here on in. He's not technically as gifted. But he's the guy who i'd have in there every game from here on in. We just can't continue to leak goals.

I also think our luck has hugely turned. At the start of the season we were getting pens when we were getting fouled outside the box! Now, the refs aren't giving us a damn thing. Cardiff is a perfect example. If the ref does his job, we win that game 3-0.

Without a shadow of a doubt my expectations have been checked over the past month. This is the business end of the season and teams are now starting to make a charge (see Birmingham). I think the top 2 spots are going to be a big ask, if i'm totally honest. Even with 5 points between us and 6th, i think the play offs may be much harder to make than some people think, although i think we'll have enough. Just.

I've got us down to finish 6th.

This wasn't so long ago. I can understand the jittery feelings that naturally accompany a blip run of poor results, but since then, the injuries we had that have now been overcome, plus the signings of Sharp and Lee and the return of Puncheon into the fold, give hope that this is a squad of players of quality and depth that are capable of taking us up. OK, we have to keep our fingers crossed that our two key players, Lallana and Lambert have not suffered injuries that will keep them out long, but at least we now have able replacements who could do a decent job as cover for them in the short term.

But I'm so encouraged that the post quoted has happily got so much wrong when considered in the light of today's events. So West Ham grind out 1-0 wins, eh? We don't get penalties any longer? We've lost the knack of winning? Morgan and Cork don't command the midfield? So Hammond is a must start? What happened to Birmingham's charge today?

And thanks to Watford, our bogey team, for giving us three points and three goals to add to the three points and four goals they gave us at St Mary's. So it was apparently only our second win there in 91 years and they haven't been beaten there since October.

So can we keep up the momentum that we have gained since the low point on that Millwall Cup defeat? I'd say that the money was again on automatic promotion rather than hobbling apologetically into the play-offs in 6th.

Fantastic result.

Some interest stats .....

Rickie's third hat-trick of the season.

Undefeated in last 6 league games, won 3, drawn 3

Only conceded 2 goals in last 6 league games, including 1 penalty at West Ham

Played West Ham, Birmingham, Burnley and Cardiff in last six league fixtures

Have scored 3 or more goals in 12 league games this season.

We have a near-as-whatsit fully fit squad.

We have the ability to score goals all over the field.

We have Lambert, Lallana, Lee, Sharp, Conolly, Puncheon, Guly, De Ridder all fit and available

We are going to win this division.

Just read all the match thread and post . Some nervous folk on here re injuries . We gave players chomping at the bit to come in if players are injured . We have a squad that is very much together all you have to see is the lads in the pitch and those off it who use twitter etc to show their commintment . Do any of the chasing pack have any midweek catch up games to play .

My opinion still has not changed, if we have an in form Lallana available for the remaining games, we will get automatic promotion. If Adkins can avoid keeping Ricky on a ploughed field whilst having a knock, our chances increase further. The less we have that in form Lallana available, the less our chances are, he is still the difference when he is on form.

We have an exceptional squad at the present that looks perfect for putting in that heavy schedule between now and the end of the season. Sharp will eventually come good and it looks like Chaplow is good enough now, along with all the other talent we have. Unless Chung can provide the Lallana inspiration (as yet no), I still believe everything hangs on his shoulders.

We did a very good controlled number on Watford with the midfield taking control, backed up by a good attack and defence. Really good to hear Fonte coming out from defence and adding to Watfords plight. Some of the goals make you wonder, the first a gift from ManU, the third a "shoulder to shoulder contact is no longer allowed", leaving a excellent worked goal from Ricky for the second. I can only assume Ricky got the game plan for the second goal from Kelvin, when you arrive from so far back to execute the play.

I have searched high and low but cannot find dear old clueless Alpine. Surely he has a take on Saints being top of the league. Something along the lines of "it won't last - you mark my words". Still I understand the snow is 7m thick in the Alps so that may well be that...

Ripper. Apologies but have nicked it for FB

Great result, sounded like one of those times we turned up and the class and tactics simply did the rest.

And we didn't need any Nuns either.

And since it was my idea, can I have a couple of Trolley's as a reward during the week

(Future Mrs D_P said she doesn't mind if it means Rickie keeps banging them in)

Your search could not have included post number seven from this topic then. :)

Chuffed with the results. Looking a 3 horse race at the moment. Reading game looks massive.

Worried a bit about the injuries.

"I sincerely hope this information is of some sort of use to yourself" (as the saying goes). ;)

I don't think I've seen a picture yet of Jos that doesn't have him with a big cheesy grin joining in with the fans celebrations.

You can see just how much he is loving it here. Tadanari looks pretty chuffed as well.

And Chappers wouldn't be out of place on the terraces. Seem to remember he was one of the cheerleaders in the stands at the end of the last game of the season - especially vocal in the DSB's we're coing for you!!!

The Spirit of Southampton seems to have been restored at long last.
