Lifelongsaint83 Posted 25 February, 2012 Share Posted 25 February, 2012 My very first time starting a thread so be nice to me..Just looked on The Sun website and saw an article from Fat Sam stating he thinks West Ham are the BEST footballing side in the league! I know they are top and they get results one way or another, but the best footballing side? Really? http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/4152158/Sam-Allardyce-West-Ham-are-tops-for-style.html
Thedelldays Posted 25 February, 2012 Share Posted 25 February, 2012 so what.....he is hardly going to say another team is...whilst his sit top of the league...

Thedelldays Posted 25 February, 2012 Share Posted 25 February, 2012 There's a big difference between best footballing side and getting the most points. QPR weren't the best footballing side last year yet won it easily. The simplistic fan will look at it and say 'they're better', but I just see a team thrown together for short term results, while Norwich and Swansea were far more likely to keep improving and playing football. WH have made better signings than QPR did, players like Maynard could do well for years, but they don't play decent football, they barely even try to. They'll win the league by miles I'm sure, isn't that enough for them without suggesting they're playing like Brazil or something? Or is this a chip on his shoulder from the Bolton days? Bolton, Blackburn and WH aren't as one dimensional as his reputation suggests, but none of them played anything like good passing football. a few poor results in the prem and the west ham fans will be all over him.... Dr Who? Posted 25 February, 2012 Share Posted 25 February, 2012 They have the best squad in the league, with. Lot of premier league quality. Do not think they are the best footballing side though, as Brum and Reading are very good sides to watch, as we are on our day. It is all about being able to adapt to the games as they come and during the game, that will take the top 2 places, and it is so tight to call at the moment. It will be 2 out of West Ham, Saints, Brum, and Reading. Brum look like they could win he league now with the run they are on. west Ham are top with a game in hand, and Reading play some good stuff and have the only player I would like to see in the Saints team. It is going to be fun that's for sure COYR!
jam Posted 25 February, 2012 Share Posted 25 February, 2012 a few poor results in the prem and the west ham fans will be all over him.... He's just doing a PR job for himself as he know's that as soon as they have a few poor results the fans wil be using his reputation as a stick to beat him with. I think some posters need to realise that not everything revolves around Southampton FC...
Didcot Saint Posted 25 February, 2012 Share Posted 25 February, 2012 Fat northern idiot. The future of English football is being ruined by idiotic cretins like him with their primitive tatics. Barca,Man Utd etc etc don't win trophies playing like his teams. Bright young managers like Nige and Brendon Rodgers at Swansea are the way forward. West Ham will get smashed every week if they go up. We won't.
Window Cleaner Posted 25 February, 2012 Share Posted 25 February, 2012 At the end of the day his methods get results. West Ham have won the most matches in the Championship this season. As their objective is an immediate return to the PL then I guess the manner doesn't count overmuch.
Didcot Saint Posted 25 February, 2012 Share Posted 25 February, 2012 That's the future of the game in this country though is it. God help us, people are even touting the gormless twit as the next England manager. No wonder the national team is miles off the rest when there are cretins like fat Sam and Aidy Boothroyd trying to adopt hoof it tactics on everyone. And it rubs off on others. No place for football like that in my book.
beatlesaint Posted 25 February, 2012 Share Posted 25 February, 2012 If I was a West Ham fan and read that the manager thinks his team are the best footballing side in the league given the way they play I would be seriously worried about what the future holds. Especially for a club who have always played football the right way and hounded one manager (Lou Macari) out when he played similar to Fat Sam's style. Lifelongsaint83 Posted 25 February, 2012 Author Share Posted 25 February, 2012 I know they get the results and at the end of the day thats whats importnat and they are top which is fair enough. I just really dont think they are the best footballing side, there are other teams in this league that play better football than they do.
Dalek2003 Posted 25 February, 2012 Share Posted 25 February, 2012 It's a results based business. How you get them is largely irrelevant.

doddisalegend Posted 25 February, 2012 Share Posted 25 February, 2012 Do I give a **** what Sam thinks? let me see how many times has his amazing team beaten us this season, how many points out of six have WH taken off us..............................we did our talking on the pitch and were the better team both times IMO (well apart from the first 15 minutes of the second game). Fan The Flames Posted 25 February, 2012 Share Posted 25 February, 2012 He probably thinks he is slim as well. The football he plays isn't too bad, long passing trying to Cole to knock down or turn the defender, when the ball breaks loose from this they press quickly then play the ball around, that's when they look good. Im sure we would have struggled the other night had they stayed with 11 men.

West Ham will get smashed every week if they go up. We won't. Disagree. Although I don't like BFS, his teams get results and actually the approach he's taking at WHU is not dissimilar to Bolton. High wages to mature players / footballing mercenaries, long ball with a couple of flair players (e.g. JJ in the Bolton days). If you have the funding to sustain it, it works. His team won't get battered in the Prem but neither will they do anything spectacular - in fact I'd back him over Nigel to stay up.... I wouldn't want him to manage Saints as he's too defensive, bent (at least by his son, if not personally) and delusional.
