Saints are delighted to confirm two exciting new projects, which will significantly enhance the customer experience and service for home supporters.

Installation of a new ticket software solution via Tickets.com and a stadium access control system courtesy of market leading FortressGB is now under way in preparation for the 2012-13 season.

bit of information on the new online system...

Customise seat mapping by event – the ultimate in flexibility! Afford your customers the opportunity to select their preferred seat online including up-sells, cross sells, packages and patron specific offers.

It also inherently re-introduces the concept of a membership system to all intents and purposes:

"With the introduction of both systems this will in turn allow the club to introduce a loyalty point scheme for the new season. This will entitle fans to obtain loyalty points on their Saints related purchases, which will provide all supporters the opportunity to obtain priority service and opportunities for high profile matches and events in the future."

Sounds promising.

From reading that I gather that we will all get a card (if we want one), even non STH's, and when we want to attend a home game, we go online, buy the ticket and it is added to our account, we then swipe in at st.marys on match day. At least that's what I think it means... Very intuitive if so. About time too!

Yes to online bookings, yes to smart card stadium entry, yes to membership, and any loyalty-based scheme should be ok too - but no to excessive online booking charges (beyond the actual cost of P&P and maybe a tiny admin fee, ignoring that this is the most cost-effective way for the club to administer sales anyway).

Definitely DEFINITELY no to smart card credits to enable fans to purchase goods at St Mary's IF it's the only way to buy anything.

They've done this in Germany and it's been a logistical nightmare, people have to charge their cards up with credit which they then can't get back except by spending it on club crap. A few stories of random charges coming off the cards as well... and how would you know?

Rangers do something similar. Members get given a swipe card and it's activated when they purchase a 'ticket' for that game and they just scan in as a ST holder would.

Can I assume that with a stadium access control system courtesy of market leading FortressGB i can go outside the Stadium at H/T and have a ciggy as this is something that is supposed to improve the customer experience for ALL.

You not sparking up your fags in the khazi will certainly improve my customer experience at half-time, anyway.

Suspecting that there won't be a "smoker" tick box on the card that would enable you to leave and return though. otherwise you could use the card multiple times for different people.

What they need are cages outside to enclose a smoking area but still make it in the "open air" outside the stadium. Preferably nowhere near the exits either.

I was at Schalke's ground last week and the credits thing really didn't seem to work, there was a massive queue of people wanting to charge their cards up, then there was another massive queue to get your bratwurst and beer. The queue for food and beer wasn't moving that quickly either. The only way I would want it is if there was an online account where you can top up online and have a list of all transactions made. Though it's more hassle than it's worth, just stick to good ol' fashioned sterling.

I assume ST holders have their card filled for the season? bit of a flaff otherwise or would this system do away with season tickets altogether? It's all a bit vague. The smart card for half time snacks is an interesting idea. On the face of it seems like a good move.

Surely it should be possible to arrange the software so that you can click an option to "Buy" a smoking pass-out for say a pound a game. Exit with the card via the turnstile and re-enter within so many minutes of the start of the second half.

People get their ciggy, the 5 or 600 that take it up would cover any additional stewards costs - simples

Yea I assume you will still be able to buy a season ticket and a reduced rate (i.e. cheaper than topping your card up for every game). Thats what the article suggests anyway, and I agree it is a good idea.

Hopefully it will be like the Reading loyalty points sytsem. This is cumulative and carried over one season to the next, and it's used to allocate tickets when allocations are restricted. Also means for games that might not get a big gate, they can add points bonuses to encourage people to go. Ultimately a much fairer system I think, and hopefully an end to some of the ballots for away games we have had the last couple of years.

Exactly or even 2 points for local and London based away games and 3/4 for games further up country. This way the "hardcore" away fans really get rewarded.

I think 1 for a home, 1.3 for an away within 200 miles of St Mary's, 1.6 for an away further than that.

That way 2 long aways outranks 3 homes, which I think is reasonable; but 3 homes still outranks two near aways.

Then of course it would depend on how many points you need to apply at what point for which matches...

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now we've really made it as a club!!! This is fantastic news and a round of applause to all those involved. A world class ticketing system to go along with our world class stadium, training ground, academy and chairman!!

I'm hoping that the club can organise training sessions for ticket holders during the summer to help us get to grips with them and to whet our appetites for what lies ahead in the 2012/13 season.

The new booking system and bar code scanners represent a massive leap forward for SFC. :D

So does this mean the end of waving ST's at so called "plastic fans"? you can all wave your swipe cards at each other for the fun of it

Give it 6 weeks and someone will have smuggled a smart card reader and a massive LED display into the ground so they can wave their ST credits at people.

Whatever happened to the working mans game that you used to be able to turn up on the day pay your cash and get in....now some spotty little **** with a season ticket and laptop gets priority over me who has followed saints around the country and Europe a couple of times, spent hundreds on merchandise for the kids and most of the 80's fighting rival fans to protect the reputation of SFC.

What has this world come to.

How do you feel about the possibility of retaining the yellow kit from this season for use as a third kit in the Prem ? Does it signify the rebirth of Saints ?

What has this world come to.

Yeah, damn all these technological advances that are ruining everything.

Sorry, somewhat facetious of me, but I don't think it's fair to criticise the club for wanting to improve its infrastructure.

As for the spotty kid with a laptop... he doesn't get priority over you. If you want a ticket, you can buy a ticket, but the simple fact of the matter is as we get busier again, the club need effective systems in place to manage things. We all know how poor the current online booking system has been, and the TO system too at times, and the fact that fraud has been an issue for the club in respect of ST's, so I think this is entirely appropriate and welcome.

If we can have 3 kits next season it's another thread for you to bore us with your designs on, so for that reason, two kits only please.

the wording makes it sound as though buying stuff in the shop could earn you the loyalty points needed to give you priority for tickets. Hope not, although this probably won't matter in the premiership with the larger away ends. Having said that, in the past we have often gone for the smaller allocations when asked to pay up front.

Any idea what the admin fee is when you buy Chelsea tickets?

I initially read it like that but then thought there is no way in a million years the club could be stupid enough to try and implement something like that... could they?

Vague, but sounds promising.

They say a loyalty points system for next year, just hope it will be a fair one that rewards long journeys etc.

As opposed to just making the same amount of points for a home/away fixture.

Sounds good though.

Great if we all lived in Soton...

Oh yes hopefully half time snacks will also add loyalty points then I can get to all the choice matches just be eating and drinking loads and buying an XXXXL saints kit (socks and everything) and jester hat which I can then wear to those proper nawty away days.....

It's already happening, hadn't you noticed ?

Also, Umbro don't do 3 new kits a season for anyone any more, they only do two, so you're safe either way.
