Jones91 Posted 23 February, 2012 Share Posted 23 February, 2012 I have to go down 5 mins early because I my mouth is dry where I have been supporting the team for 40 mins. I can't drink water cos that'll sober me up and I normally need a **** as well. The kingsland/northam corner is (unofficially) a standing area, so I just walk behind the ppl who are watching the game...if i'm ever late back up. I don't leave early either, because I'm one of those "knobs" who walks round the queue for the footbridge and pushes in by the lamp post. kpturner Posted 23 February, 2012 Share Posted 23 February, 2012 Saturday afternoons are purely about the beer for me, I'm not overly fussed about the football so I usually turn up about 15:10, and head back down to the concourse around 15:30. It would be much easier to stay in the pub, but I find it can be very difficult to post on this forum unless you actually go to the game. Therefore I renew my ST year in year out to prevent my self being bullied on here. Never again do I want to be confused with a "plastic fan".If you stayed in the pub, the beer would be worth drinking also.
alpine_saint Posted 23 February, 2012 Share Posted 23 February, 2012 Considering how the results of games so often change due to goals just either side of half-time, and in the last few minutes, I've never understood this activity. Especially considering how expensive games are. You could get 10 pints for the price your entry, if you love beer so much. And sitting in traffic queues with a warm glow if we've won, feeling of "meh" or annoyance if we've drawn, and intense pain if we've lost, is part of the football fan experience. jamesb Posted 23 February, 2012 Share Posted 23 February, 2012 Just take a hip flask of whisky in, it's great in the cold months. This. Worked well in the Cardiff game the other day!

Dog Posted 23 February, 2012 Share Posted 23 February, 2012 I always leave my seat 5 minutes before half time to empty out my arse, before the Jim Royle's get comfy in there cubicals.
The9 Posted 23 February, 2012 Share Posted 23 February, 2012 The two salt of the earth shaven-headed types in my row (nice blokes actually) arrive, pickled, about 5-10 minutes after kick-off, leave 10 minutes before half-time to get beers, and get back from the half-time beers - if at all - around 15 minutes after second half kick off. They also leave on about 85 minutes. Total time watching the 95ish minutes ? Around 50 minutes. They literally miss nearly half of the match. I'm surprised they even know which team Saints are. st alex Posted 23 February, 2012 Share Posted 23 February, 2012 The thing that amazed me was 10 minutes before the final whistle V Derby, the stairs were literally packed. I understand the traffic gets bad, but seriously...what the f*ck? Thought that kind of gave the impression that they didn't care that we'd put in a great performance and notched up an excellent overdue win. Wonder if these people left on 85 mins at the JPT final as well becasue that was an easy win and almost everyone had some distance to travel back. Jones91 Posted 23 February, 2012 Share Posted 23 February, 2012 Actually that reminds me, I missed 3 goals in the JPT due to drinking beer in in the concourse
Dr Who? Posted 23 February, 2012 Share Posted 23 February, 2012 That would be rubbish. See what would happen if we got an important goal. Don't be silly everyone knows that the beer would stay upright no matter what.
Dr Who? Posted 23 February, 2012 Share Posted 23 February, 2012 I have not drunk at home games since 2005. I have to drive to games now, so just go to the game and home again.

Saint Fan CaM Posted 23 February, 2012 Share Posted 23 February, 2012 I really couldn't care less if anyone wants to pay to drink and eat the rubbish served up at SMS, however what I do detest is when so-called supporters leave 5-10 minutes before the end of the game and then block my view because they slowly amble down the steps. IF YOU WANT TO LEAVE EARLY, GET OUT QUICKLY YOU D1CKS! Rant over.

LostBoys Posted 24 February, 2012 Share Posted 24 February, 2012 I have no objection to anyone getting up early to get a beer at halftime but I do get p***d off when they stop at the top of the stairs if anything happens on the pitch as it blocks my view
JackanorySFC Posted 24 February, 2012 Share Posted 24 February, 2012 People leaving early is a far bigger problem in my opinion. I need a beer at half time to keep my day going, do a similar rota to someone else earlier mentioned where we take turns on 38/39 minutes to go and get a round in. The argument that the players realise this and stop playing is clearly b******s as I've missed loads of goals in the concourse over the last few years! Won't touch their skanky food though. Early leavers make me sick though, after a 4-0 win why can't you stay and applaud the lads off? Just as bad if we are 1-0 down, or 3-0 down. I've not left a game early since Barry Hornes goal v Bolton as a kid. Lesson Learned there! (actually I did crave early at Blackpool 3 years ago when 2-0 down in the p***ing rain and wind. Pompey had just beat united and I wasn't in the best if moods so went back into town only to see us pull it back to 2-2. Another lesson learned! SaintRobbie Posted 24 February, 2012 Share Posted 24 February, 2012 I might be alone in noticing/caring about this, but in recent home games (more so than usually) there seem to have been an increasing amount of fans in and around the Northam/Kingsland corner heading down to the concourse well before half time. It starts at around the 37 minute mark and increases until around 42 minutes, by which time about a quarter of the fans seem to have left their seats and are on their way downstairs. The atmosphere drops off immediately and in the last two home games we have had dodgy spells just before half time; it was almost silent on 40 minutes against Burnley and I looked around me to see hundreds of previously occupied seats now empty. Its not for me to criticise someone for going and grabbing a beer (how dare you!), but I just don't understand that mentality. Presumably these are the same people who miss the first few minutes of the second half, too. How much of the game do they actually see? 75 minutes? Does it really make such a massive difference to wait until the half time whistle? Or when the stoppage time board goes up? Just an observation and perhaps its always been like this, but I swear this tendency has increased this season. The golden rule of watching Saints is never leave in the last couple of minutes. Anything can happen - and usually does - then!!!
The9 Posted 24 February, 2012 Share Posted 24 February, 2012 Pretty sure people want to be in front of the queue to get out without actually leaving. Yup, I used to use that trick at midweek games, leave my seat on 90 mins and go one step at a time to the exit, then peg it out of the stadium as the whistle blew, run back to the car parked near the Eagle, jump in, whack Five Live on and off up the Avenue to the M3 before the jams began. Always worked and no-one ever actually complained. I wouldn't do it now, mostly because I don't live 120 miles away any more, and I go to the game with mates who are local as well, so after midweek games we just sit around in the pub until the queues die out. jamesb Posted 24 February, 2012 Share Posted 24 February, 2012 Didn't somebody get kicked out recently when caught with one of these. After drinking the hipflask my mate tried to take a bottle up but the steward saw him. He was kicked out just before Lambers pen in the cardiff game!
