Shroppie Posted 21 February, 2012 Share Posted 21 February, 2012 On a loan. Always liked him and not convinced we've found much better since. But obviously surplus to requirements at Reading now.
Gingeletiss Posted 21 February, 2012 Share Posted 21 February, 2012 Now let me think!!! Antonio or Chappers, or Punch..........no, I do believe you are right

SNSUN Posted 21 February, 2012 Share Posted 21 February, 2012 We have Guly, Punch, De Ridder and Chaplow all fighting it out for a spot on the right - I think we're covered. Don't get me wrong, I loved Antonio when he was here, my missus did too, but we have better now.
DrZuess1979 the 2nd Posted 21 February, 2012 Share Posted 21 February, 2012 Thought he was good but champ abit above his level tbh Didn`t he get offered more money to stay at Reading
Shroppie Posted 21 February, 2012 Author Share Posted 21 February, 2012 Perhaps I've just got happy memories of some of his goals - especially Wembley.
RobM Posted 21 February, 2012 Share Posted 21 February, 2012 Today, I wouldn't worry about him. Back when he left us, I think we should have paid the price to sign him. Although inconsistent, we all saw his raw talent and ability and he performed well more times than not. I'm sure he would have improved with us too. But we've moved on
SNSUN Posted 21 February, 2012 Share Posted 21 February, 2012 Not signing him gave a chance to Oxo, and I think we, and Arsenal can be thankful for that. Wasn't he out of contract that summer of 2010, but Reading gave him a new contract so they'd get some money if we wanted to sign him?
Barry the Badger Posted 21 February, 2012 Share Posted 21 February, 2012 I stumbled across the JPT final highlights the other day. He certainly had some pace, and confidence, but his crosses were generally just floated randomly into the box whether there was anybody there or not. He wasn't as good as you remember him. Gambol2K9 Posted 21 February, 2012 Share Posted 21 February, 2012 Let's put this to bed once and for all, antonio was brilliant for us why he was here but he wasnt anywhere near as good as people remember. Would u honestly swap him for punch or chappers??

Turkish Posted 21 February, 2012 Share Posted 21 February, 2012 THis cant be true. I recall we were told on here two seasons ago Antonio was a brilliant player, much better than Puncheon and was improviing all the time, we were told he would be a premier league player. Reading have got it wrong and so have all the other pemier and championship teams who are not trying to sign this world beater.

supersonic Posted 22 February, 2012 Share Posted 22 February, 2012 if he was good enough to play at this level, he would be playing at this level. Since he re-signed for Reading he's had numerous loan spells back to League 1 which probably tells you something
LostBoys Posted 22 February, 2012 Share Posted 22 February, 2012 Another cracking career decision by a player here on loan
Shroppie Posted 22 February, 2012 Author Share Posted 22 February, 2012 Still can't help wondering how well he would have developed with us. Good luck to him anyway.
terrypward Posted 22 February, 2012 Share Posted 22 February, 2012 Was it him at Wycombe away (which was a massive waste of good petrol) - got subbed after coming on as sub? Was very hit and miss.
This Charming Man Posted 22 February, 2012 Share Posted 22 February, 2012 On a loan. Always liked him and not convinced we've found much better since. But obviously surplus to requirements at Reading now. I'd say AOC, De Ridder, Chaplow and Puncheon are all better than him... far, far better than him. So I make that virtually every winger we've had since he left is better than him. He was very hit and miss and imagine Adkins playing someone who is so wasteful with the ball! L1 is his level, hence why he keeps getting loaned to L1 clubs.
pingwing Posted 22 February, 2012 Share Posted 22 February, 2012 another case of Saints fans idolising a player because he is quick and runs aroud alot, regardless of the quality of his end product. Happens far to regularly, Antonio was a younger Papa Waigo, inconsistent and and get the better of people by just being fast. Worryingly similar to Forte.... (though thankfully he doesn't have a fan club for one good performance in 15 dreadful ones)
doddisalegend Posted 22 February, 2012 Share Posted 22 February, 2012 That ship has sailed. I liked him a lot and he was exciting to watch scored some good goals (brizzle rovers in the cup was an outstanding goal). He was raw but improved with regular football I think if he had stayed at the time we could have improved him into a decent player. He certainaly had pace to burn something many posters on here have said we lacked. Wouldn't get any where near the first team now but as part of our cup winning team I hope he goes onto have a good career somewhere.
The9 Posted 22 February, 2012 Share Posted 22 February, 2012 He gets on the bench for Reading when McAnuff and Kebe are both out. League One or bottom half of Championship is probably about right for him.
Son of Bob Posted 22 February, 2012 Share Posted 22 February, 2012 I reckon he's found his level at the sharp end of League 1.
