Reading to lose McDermott?

Why would he leave Reading though....decent enough ground, rich owners, relatively low expectations amongst fans

to go to Wolves who will go down as their time has come - poor defensively.

Although I think his salary will be low at Reading as he came from within and Wolves would be offering a good deal.

because he will work with better players...get more money...will no doubt think he is good enough to keep them up....he may never get a chance at managing in the prem ever again....etc

He has a safe seat at Reading or as safe as you can get he has a good relationship with JM who looks as though he will be there as chairman for at least another two years, why go to WW where fans expectations will be higher, (I forgot money).

I think he'll be mad to go to Wolves.

I don';t think they're particularly flush with cash, and stories now point towards reading having a few bob to splash about (as shown by their January signings). It's the start of what could be a decent era for Reading, and If I was him i personally wouldn't want to leave - I might use the situation to force my current club to give me a pay rise though!

like I said....he will or may never have a crack at the prem again...he would go there thinking he will keep them up...

what happens at reading....fail in the playoffs and yet again sell their best player(s)

Totally agree. Wolves have got delusions of grandeur, whilst Reading have got finally got some money to play around with. Great job he's done there.

Spending Daddy's money.

Didn't some other club do this?

I thought the same when I saw that on the FL show at the weekend. Regardless, McDermott would be a fool to move to Wolves now and he seems a pretty switched on bloke - unfortunately can't see it happening and reckon Reading will defenitely be a threat for the rest of the season.

I can't see him leaving, they haev money and they are flying. This is a shame as they are one of the few sides that have made us look poor and will be a real threat in the run in.

Funny everyone moans about the Prem not looking at NPC managers when jobs come up, but now one has, how many CCC managers would actually say no, McDermott, Adkins, fat sam, Chris Houghton, Malky Mackay? I suppose its not exactly the greatest job in the world and any taker has almost no time in which to do it.

I could see him going to a job like that in the summer but right now I'd imagine he'd want to give it a shot at the PL with Reading. Wolves is hardly a massive step up from Reading.

Wolves are a much bigger club than Reading. They have a larger fanbase, greater history and the biggest draw is that they are in the Premier League whilst Reading aren't.

Wolves have also been linked with Poyet. According to local press up hear McDermott has already had discussions with the Wolves board.

FYI - Wolves are a lot bigger club than Reading can ever be.............They have deep squad members, but very few really outstanding players. The criticism they gave of McCartney is that he should have spent £12m on 2 or 3 players rather 5 or 6 that are no better than what they already have.

Well I'm pretty sure two of those things aren't really high on any managers agenda when thinking about a new club. Yes Wolves are in the PL but I imagine he would weigh up which is more likely going up with Reading or staying up with Wolves. If he doesn't think he can keep wolves up why would he bother?

Your comment was 'Wolves is hardly a massive step up from Reading', which is what I was replying to. Wolves is easily a few steps better than Reading. Also I believe that Wolves have a greater chance of staying up in comparison to Reading gaining promotion. The Premier League has some real crap in it like Wigan, Blackburn, Bolton, QPR. A decent manager should be able to keep a team like Wolves up. Just look at the effect a decent manager has had at Sunderland and West Brom (last season). As for Reading they aren't going to gain automatic promotion (Blackpool and Brum will be fighting us and West Ham IMO) and obviously the Play Offs is a complete lottery.

This one seems to be polarising opinion. Some reason that Wolves are a larger club so can pay him more. The other camp respond that Wolves are on a downward spiral and he would be better served staying with Reading.

I'm definitely in the second group. He can consider his options at the end of the season. If Reading haven't made the promotion list, then it is the time to look at options. But not now - Reading are serious promotion candidates, and he wouldn't mess them about. I would be amazed if he was interested in Wolves.

And Adkins? No chance, thank heavens.

Reading won't want to let him go at this stage of the season, and anyway Steve Bruce must be favourite for that job.

Incidentally I went to school with Reading's new owner Anton Zingarevich. He was in my year, and in my boarding house - and is a very nice bloke. So was his brother Denis. I'm Not sure where his money's come from, but I think his Daddy is rich. (I mention not the Russian mafia...)

Interesting , as a contact at Reading ( on the youth side) reckons no monies have yet been forthcoming !

He helped fund the loan of Jason Roberts I believe, and has stated he sees Reading's future as investing in the youth. I'm not in contact with him anymore, wish I bloody was - I'd berate him for choosing Reading! (Although our school, Bearwood College, is in the area. (Winnersh.))

The russians come in at reading firmly in line with madeski which means not splashing out big time and building a self sustaining club - good on em both really.

As for Mcdermot staying being such a great idea just have a look at what happend to the manager that got them to the play offs last year! Personally can understand why hes staying though. Love that we have a manager that is widely recognised as doing a good job but never too high up lists to go to other clubs. Maybe hes a bit unfasionable, maybe its cause saints are on the up but either way im not complaining!

Not so sure that Roberts is on loan at Reading, think he was actually signed from errr Blackburn?

How long before Adkins is linked?

some people link almost anyone with anything...

why would NA (or anyone else) want to leave a Championship side about to be promoted - for a Premiership side about to be relegated ?

.......and don't say MONEY !.. the real professionals want to manage a successful side - not an ailing one .

We aren't about to be promoted, we have a brilliant chance but it isn't definite and Wolves are from being relegated.

The real professionals are managers like Martin O'Neill who turn struggling sides into successful ones, instead of inheriting a successful side from a previous manager.

It's really not, but the grounds are very impressive.

Lovely stretch of road between Barkham and Bearwood on a bike. A spiky hill followed by a false flat past Bearwood Lakes. Downhill past the college entrance is the only place I routinely get over 50kph without descending in the Chilterns. You're right it's not that posh. Two teachers unable to hack it in state school in Bracknell currently teaching there speaks volumes for it's standards.

The only two staff still there from my time (13 years ago!) is the headmaster and his deputy. We had some dodgy teachers, I believe one ended up stacking shelves in Tesco's for doing something naughty. It's not posh, but it costs a lot to go to - mind you I was on a music scholarship so it didn't matter, but I went from a very promising musician when I went there to not giving a toss about music by the time I left. The grounds are what sells the school though - I'd love to have a go on that golf course.

Cheers for the school advice gents, the golf course is very exclusive I think.

It's not part of the school, it's part of the grounds, anyone can use it I believe, I don't remember us getting to choose Golf as an activity. (It wouldn't have mattered, I was football mad, even playing football during the Rugby season.)
