We should not really be relying on slip ups if we're going to win this league / deserve promotion.

I always find this statement a bit bizzare. Teams drop points over the course of the season, no harm in hoping that those around us do so at crucial times.

Jeez. That is a big, big result especially at Bloomfield Road. Thought they'd win but not 4-1. Massive for them BUT... gives us extreme confidence that we can go there and come away with the 3 points!

This. I actually feel a bit deflated. Birmingham look unbeatable at the minute, and this result (coupled with last week) will give West Ham such a massive confidence boost.

hmmmm, just looked at Brums next 4 games and if we were playing their oppo in those 4 games, I'd fancy us to win all 4.......

West Ham result not the worst in the world, will hopefully knock the stuffing out of Blackpool for a bit. West Ham still got a fairly tricky run in as well let's not forget.

Barnsley-Birmingham was the one I most wanted to go our way!

Importance and impressiveness of our results at St Andrews and Upton Park magnified by tonight's outcomes

Yep, could be big to have taken 4 points off each come end of season.

Never mind! All we can do is win our own games....With a game in hand the title is West Ham's for the taking, but to be honest even though I cant stand them now I thought they would win it at the start of the season anyway. I would be bloody ecstatic with 2nd place!

A draw would have been nice, but if I'd had to pick a winner it would have been w ham. They are pretty sure to go up in auto either way, would rather they took points off teams snapping at our heels. More annoyed about brum and midds winning tbh

Meh. Sh*te set of results for us but not a lot we can do about it.

Positives...

* Still in auto places

* Still got the best GD in league

* Brum still 5 points behind us albeit with a game in hand

* Plenty of winnable games left with Blackpool & Boro the only serious challengers we still have to play

* West Ham haven't beaten us this season and neither have Birmingham - taken 4 points off each of them

Plenty of reasons to be optimistic IMO.

I just said it again.

Now they have THREE men on red card suspensions....if we can't overtake them now...we don't deserve to win the title.

If they keep winning there is nothing we can do about that.

Well if West Ham win their games even with 3 suspensions then it doesnt matter what we do anyway.

WHU have a very tough April, but an easier March. If we are matching them going into the last month I would back our team spirit and closing out experience from last year.

Yeah but hopefully with Green out they might struggle a bit defensively. We would have beaten them at Upton Park last week were it not for him.

Their next two games are Palace at home - derby game (ish) with no love lost between them so could go either way - and Cardiff away which is no guarantee of points even with a full squad available.

* Plus the fact we've found a bit of form

* We're unbeaten in 5

* We're still yet to see much of Billy Sharp and Tadanari Lee, 2 quality strikers

* We've got Adam Lallana

* Chappers is back, we win when he plays

* And we've got a prolific goalscorer playing at CB

He has saved their arses quite a few times so yeah hopefully they might have a little slip up. They do have a tough run in

West Ham seem to be playing better with ten men than eleven at present. To be honest, all 3 games were likely to be away wins and it is still in our own hands,so nothing has really changed, except that we have dropped down to second.

If he (Green) was sent off for a foul, it will be a 1-match ban not 3, unless he has been sent off already this season?

Palace may prove a stern test on Saturday after their 4-0 win last weekend.

Posted
Reading are far more serious challengers than either of these.

Yeh, but with a bit of luck they'll lose mcdermott to wolves, then go on a sh*te run with a caretaker manager.

Posted

This is beginning to look like the end of last season when the top three were winning consistently as mid-table teams had less to play for. You can't rely on staying in the top two on slip-ups. But the draws against WH and Brum now look like good results.

Saturday games....

West Ham v Crystal Palace (12:45 KO)

Birmingham v Forest

Middlesbrough v Reading

Watford v Saints

Cardiff - no game

West Ham 3-0

Birmingham 4-0

Saints 2-1

All to win

Boro and Reading will be a draw. 1-1

Reading always seem to bounce back. But after Coppel left it took them a while to get back up to pace.

Yes they were very good results but to get promoted we must get a few away wins to keep the pressure up on the other teams

When will Matthew Taylor's ban start for his sending off aginst us? Would have thought he would have been banned for today, but he played and scored.

Since they've not lost their last last 3 games with only ten men, not sure that suspensions will even have that much impact.

???

He didn't play or score today, he was suspended and missed the game.

With all the pancakes our lot have been tweeting about, doubt if anyone will be fit to play for the next couple of weeks. Need for Nigel to enforce strict Lent rations and double training to get them back in shape.

Speaking to my son who was at the game West Ham could have won by even more!

Agreed. Despite inconsistencies WHU are in a position to be clear at the top, as were Brighton last year. Birmingham keep winning, like Huddersfield did, but this year there's Reading too doing that so it's even tougher.

Many have said it before me, but it was never going to be easy. This is a tough league with plenty of serious contenders and the only way we'll get automatic is to do better than two of WHU, Reading and Birmingham over the next 14 games: relying on them to slip won't work. But we kept doing better than Huddersfield last season so now the challenge is there to do it again and to see how good we really are.

Still think we can do it.

Got to say fair play West Ham. Thought they looked very good against us when it was 11 v 11 & then limited our chances once down to 10 men, then last night getting that result against someone like Blackpool playing half the game without a keeper - hate to say it, but that's the sign of a championship winning team.

Posted
Teams have caught up with us on GD tonight too. Crap night.

Really? According to the league table we are 4 better than Birmingham and 7 better than WHU. considering we won 4-0 in our fixture and they all won 3-1 that was what I expected!

At least no one can say we are in a 'weak league' this year which is what so often happens when we are at the top or thereabouts.

I reckon big Sam has sold his soul to Satan in exchange for sacrificing a player every match he gets a result.......

I take comfort from the fact that Brum and WHU (both ex PL) are being touted as the best in the league yet niether have beaten us and we've more than matched them in the games we've played. They're both good teams but so are we.
