Give it to Ron Posted 20 February, 2012 Share Posted 20 February, 2012 Do any of you run teams? We are having a great season this year after finishing second bottom last. Did a bit of a cull, upped our training and this year 3rd and just reached a cup final at AFC Totton ground. As a coach its great to see them enjoy it so much after last year. Some interesting moves I see in Tyro trying to make it non-competitive leagues for under 11/12s and 9 a side instead of 11 which I think is a good move. Nothing worse for the poor young goalies in massive goals. will make the touchlines a happier place too!
Dr Who? Posted 20 February, 2012 Share Posted 20 February, 2012 My refereeing season is going well. Great game yesterday. Was refereeing an under 16 side, who could could not kick a ball last season, but now a year on can really thump a ball, was weird, but was amazed how they have grown physically. Love refereeing. Amazes me teams struggling so much last season who are flying this season with the same team, just shows how talent changes as they get older. Monk Posted 20 February, 2012 Share Posted 20 February, 2012 I have an under 10's grassroots team on Hayling. We don't have a great catchment area and in Portsmouth teams such as Moneyfields, East Lodge, Havant and Waterlooville usually lead the way with the standard of players. We finished second in our league, so secured another successive promotion, more importantly playing fantastic football. I really emphasise playing short simple football and from the back, which seeing a team of medium ability execute nine out of ten times is very satisfying. Such a ****ter with the season finishing so early for us but with the plans of eleven aside/nine aside, it gives us plenty of time to start the relevant training. We must be doing something right as we have recently had parents bring their kids from ‘stronger teams’ in Portsmouth down to Hayling to specifically play for us (I do worry it may be influenced by my job and parents seek to exploit it). On the down side we do have a ‘B’ team that are mainly new to football, which I also had to manage, which was manic. They wasn’t the strongest footballers but loved the game and I had to get them playing. Unfortunately, I can’t find anyone to take a second team on and to save any messing around or confusion, I have to tell eleven or so players they can’t play for their local team. Horrible potential position. Looking to play some teams from Southampton over the summer and will enter the Warsash Wasps and Crofton Saints tournaments. Maddog do your level 1 coaching badge..its the best thing I have done - I realised what a pain in the arse I was as a watching parent! Its not hard and just a turn up and go through the pack but you get to see how it should be done properley rather than just a few dads turn up every week. The thing that drives me nuts is watching those dads just send the boys run round the pitch as a warm up!
70's Mike Posted 21 February, 2012 Share Posted 21 February, 2012 i am Chairman of a local football club, playing in 8 different leagues across Hampshire. Have just installed a 3G pitch Have one team through to a Hants Cup Final, One with a good chance to win a division in the Tyro and another with a chance to win a division in Mid Solent league Proposals mentioned above 9 v 9 are part of a FA scheme to change Youth football which will be compulsory, if FA Council agree, from 2013/2014. Like all grandiose schemes funding for new goals, councils agreements to mark out different size pitches etc are all still to be agreed

The parents on both sides were great too which is a big plus in Tyro.
