I`m really surprised that no-one has started a thread on this already. One of Southamptons finest "watering holes" The Junction Inn in St Denys was badly damaged by fire on Saturday evening. Martin and Dawn and the staff were unhurt but damage to the pub is extensive. It`s a great place and I really hope that it rises from the ashes before too long.

Used to be my local when I was married to the first Mrs T used to live in Priory Road a house with river frontage about a 200 yard stagger from The Junction.

One of the finest watering holes? you obviously didn't go there in the 70s then cos it was a bit of a dive.

The lads from the BP hotel adopted it after some cataclismic event at the BP,can't remember what it was though, certainly not a mass banning by Larry because it was in the days of John who was only a manager and didn't ban anyone for very long.

I think that it is fair to say that it has changed rather a lot since the 70`s (and I don`t just mean on Saturday!). As I said Martin and Dawn turned it around. It is still a backstreet boozer type pub, but very community minded.

Had some good pints in there - Not been for a few years but it sounds as though it has maintained its "good beer guide" feel..

Sorry to hear of the fire, and I hope all can be rebuilt soon.

Used to use it a lot. Mike Hendriks was the first landlord to turn it around, he was followed by Stan and Barb. Great old boozer under both of them. Shame. I believe the actual bar had some sort of preservation order on it due to its age and authenticity. With the Bridge Inn going right downhill and the SouthWestern far from the pub it was when privately owned, St Deny's has lost it pub-wise in recent years.

The Dolphin has been a bit up and down as well. Used to like it when the unpredictable Chris Shakespeare and Chrissie were there, but you never know who is running it these days.

Another ex-regular here (at least on match days). I remember it from Mike Hendricks days but popped in at the beginning of this season.

The garden is always popular at the start and end of season, and then there was the Myra Hindley suite (so called)..

Chrissie ?? I think you mean Sandie, aka Madbat.

Very sad about the J though, spent many hours in there when it was a Marstons pub. Sadly Greene King came along with their undrinkable juice.

Before the smoking ban was invoked, there were so many people smoking in there, you could barely see the other side of the bar some evenings. A bit like Saturday night I should imagine :-)

Sorry. You are right. Sandie! Junction always have 7 or 8 interesting guest beers and they are always well kept.

It must be me then. I just cannot drink the GK IPA.

I was last in the J on a New years Day walkabout. The beer was OK but mostly linked to GK. To be fair though, I have heard that Martin has had a few barrels of non GK owned or related beers through the pumps. I hope it gets back on its feet soon though as there are too many pubs closing as it is.
