According to the Telegraph Lee's presence has raised Japanese interest in the Championship. His progress is being followed over there with great interest

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/southampton/9091841/Southamptons-new-Japanese-signing-Tadanari-Lee-scores-brilliant-goal-in-crushing-defeat-of-Derby.html

I doubt that is really the case though. Do you think there was a load of Japanese desperately trying to find a stream for the Peterborough v Bristol City game on saturday?

LOL! 'Lee' is avearge at best stop getting yourself at it over one good 2nd half performance against a very poor Derby County!

The futures bright the futures red & white but it doesnt include Tadanari Lee!

Jury's out - just as you can't make too much out of one decent 2nd half performance, its equally lazy and premature to write him off as average.

Must have seen 50+ japanese at the burnley game alone, dont think they were there to see anyone else! They were all have their pictures taken with Saints scarf etc so must have made a fair bit of yen that day so marketing is a hit and the japanese market is one of the most lucrative in the world so only good things can come from it.

Turning Japanese, first record I ever bought (woolies in woolston circa 78/9??) - took me nigh on 25 years before someone pointed out what the words pertained to.

Why? Sour Mash

Because the spread of the name, the income that could provide would be nice, easy

Because it's free money for the club. I have no problem whatsoever with millions of other people wanting to become Saints fans and spend their money on our club. Provided I can still afford to go, that is.
Free money? Never heard of that before. Realistically how many extra shirts are we going to sell? How much extra will it make us? A few grand at best.

We'll see, if we're doing well and he's getting a regular game there's a whole country that knows who he is and loves buying merchandise.

Come to think of it, he's of Korean origin, so TWO countries. With 175 million inhabitants between them.

If I wear my Saints shirt around Seoul and Lee continues to do those good goals, we're basically marketing Saints to a load of new potential fans.

You may all thank me for doing my bit.

I also live in Seoul. Have you asked any Koreans about him? Not that bothered are they? Any Koreans I speak to are uninterested in Japanese footballers.

When i ask people around Incheon. The real football fans know who he is and reckon he will do well but the average fan doesn't really know anything about him. I reckon he will do well for us. Was a great goal aswell. Hopefully be a few more streams for saints games now if the japanese channels start picking up games.

Has anyone heard a rumour about a Japanese Consortium (headed up by Cortese) are interested in buying out the leibherr interet in the club? Not sure how likely it is too happen but I do know is from a credible source (legal representative). What i dont know is the leibherr attitude to selling is.

Amyway I expect to get abuse but thats what I heard.

Have heard a few rumours of us being up for sale, not worth putting them on here as not got enough detail to back it up and it's guranteed to kick off some sort of argument.

Go on,you know you want to.

Anyway it doesn't need overmuch to provoke vivid discussion here, you could post that the Earth is round and some knob would tell you that in fact it's elliptical.By page 4 it would be a cube with chrome plated corners.

Let me guess, its all the football leagues fault yeah?

FISH

Im not Pompey you clown! im just not blinkered like you-if you think Lee will be a premiership superstar your crazy! yeah he will get the odd goal here and there because of the chances we create but thats it.

He has pace but nothing else even his goal Saturday had a slice of luck about it,why do you think he wasnt involved in the West Ham game? because Adkins realised he would be out of his depth thats why! Let him entertain the fans at home against the lesser teams but When/If we get promoted sell him on.

You sound like a skate. How was the goal he scored lucky? I imagine he was not involved as A) he is a new player still adjusting to things over here and B) Nigel recognises it is a squad game and picks his sides with this in mind.

Nothing in his very short appearances so far has or me to believe that all he has is pace and is really average. His work rate was brilliant and hassled players into making mistakes whilst he showed decent control a few times and scored a cracking goal. Give him a few games to show what he can do before calling him rubbish (a claim incorrectly levelled at myself on more than one occasion.)

It's hardly something to get excited about is it?

Who was getting excited? I simply highlighted an article that I thought was of interest to fellow fans and if even if it was wrong it might get us a few extra foreign supporters and sell a few grands worth of merchandise. Remember a lot of kids follow the clubs that their heroes play for (witness all the Man U, CHelsea and Liverpool shirts around Southampton). Lee will be a hero at home to at least some youngsters so they will follow us. All to the good I say.

No one is saying he will be a Premiership superstar. That would be crazy. But not as crazy as writing him off after barely 100 minutes of football and one very good goal.

How have you come to your conclusion Lewis?

By being as blinkered as he accuses others of.

In the sense that he kicked it and it went exactly where he would have wanted to put it ? I'm pretty sure that's "skill", not "luck", or you have to apply the same criteria to every deliberate kick of a ball in every match. Damn Saints and their 30 consecutive lucky passes for that goal earlier in the season.

From watching him play! fair enough everyone needs time to settle in so I wasnt expecting a hat trick on his debut! however I wasnt expecting him to run around like a headless chicken either!

When you consider we could have tried to sign Sam Vokes or Harry kane (on loan) I think it was pointless spending money on a player who had no experience of English football.

Ive nothing against Lee and wish him well but I just dont think he's up to the job.

What a terrible idea. Vokes has played for 6 different clubs on loan in the last 3 years, playing 32 games and scoring 6 goals.

Think that may well end up as an all time classic TSW quote, alongside Alp's England will get whitewashed during the Ashes series..

Oh that is IMHO based on watching him play (live) as well

Even before his goal on saturday I thought the lad was having a decent game. His energy certainly freshend up our attack and his touch / layoffs where decent IMO. In fact he could of scored befor that when Lallana had the chance that was well saved Lee was behind him in a better position., I guess the language issue to eb able to tell lallana to leave it hindered him at that point.

Well forgive me, but I think that sums up your football knowledge more than anything else.

The so-called headless chicken that you saw, was IMO, a busy, intelligent player, making good runs, seeking to pull defenders out of position, anticipating play and generally showing a good level of awareness and tactical intelligence.

The build-up to the goal alone was a good example. Although Cork's pass to him didn't come off, the way Lee made a quite deliberate run behind his marker, on his blind side, to stretch the play, was excellent. It also then opened up the centre of the pitch for a second runner to perhaps move onto any knock down or secondary pass that might have come from it.

Good movement is one of the most dangerous things you can have in your attacking armoury. Lee brings us a lot of it.
