Away Days

Whilst the club and its fans seem to have more a buzz about it after our recent good form, I thought a good, happy thread would keep the spirits going.

I have been thinking about away days, for me there is nothing like them.

What has been your best one? And what game would you wish you at but wern't?

For me, best away day I can think I have been on would be the 3-3 up at Old Trafford when Le Tiss scored that screamer through Taibi legs.

And of recent times I wish I could have been at the Brighton game last season, watching the vids of youtube still gives me tingles !

Yours?

Leyton Orient last year. Hot day, great atmosphere.

Peterborough last year i really enjoyed, loved the terrace and was a great game. Good night out after too.

Carlisle 2 years ago for the 94th minute equaliser.

Up there for the worst was Rochdale last year. Traffic the whole way up, arrived 10 minutes late, 2-0 down by half time. Awful support and peformance.

Man City 2004 Half Price tickets, half price travel, 3000+ Saints fans, Saints winning away, noisiest coach on the way home. Best song was to my 8 year old Daughter who had the whole coach singing at her "who was sleeping when we scored?!?!!".

Orient last year was very good, one whole side of the ground cram full of noisy Saints Fans.

Disappointment: getting beaten at Southend, they couldn't buy a win, we couldn't stop winning. The only highlight was seeing traditional floodlights on high pylons in the 4 corners of the ground.

Been a few to be honest, Dellhurst for the day, the drinking session and being in covent garden at about three in the morning and suddenly hearing OWTS being sung.

The JPT just because it was a celebration of having a football club, 55,000 saints in london, saints fans ****ing everywhere taking over pubs in the tubes in soho when we trying to get food, just pure happy madness all day.

Derby away in the play offs for the atmosphere at the game and how close we came to doing it, the rain after and not getting in till four the next morning when i had work that day almost didn't matter. I woke up proud to be a saints fan that day.

The cup final run in particular the Semi and taking over the Cap N Gown, getting into a ridiculous queue in the bar at the back and getting rounds of 16 drinks in cause we couldn't be arsed to wait a second time.

The cup final itself... great before the game, made ourselves proud as fans during the game, all i know after is i got home somehow.

I'm sure there are loads of London aways i'm missing too but i'm too old to be expected to remember them all, and besides London aways are normally drink fueled mayhem followed by an inevitable run for the last train from Waterloo or a night on the platform. Happy days.

1. Dellhurst Park

2. Plymouth 2011

3. Watford 2-2 JSP scoring both goals and the 92min equaliser. There was one last sign of hope over staying up.

4. Charlton Away - Can't remember when but it was a win to stand a chance of staying up game.

5. JTP Final

6. Reading Away - The year we went down. It was the game when the dutch system actually worked.

7. Exeter 2-1 last season. We blagged a victory out of nothing.

Anderlecht: went on my own courtesy of a priv flight from dad. Great day out, museums, the match [Osgood!],Robbie Resenbrink (IIRC) and er...the beer (did I say chocolate?) . Bloomin' Chanson d'Amour...

Wham away a few years ago: 2-2 and our car load took our chance on home tickets and all got split up. The guy I was next to sussed me and we had a chat: "Good player, that Le Tissier". Another friend was sworn at by a little kid. "Shut up, you little squirt". Big fat mum and dad "Don't you ****ing swear at our kid. Look, there's Southampton supporters here". The other Wham fans, bless 'em, just looked acutely embarassed.

Orient away in 1978: on the basis that I can't remember anything. Was it Sealey or Funnell? Doesn't matter now...

Does 1976 count?;-)

Plymouth 2011 was incredible. My missus had to undress me when I fell through the door at 2am, I was that p*ssed.

Yeovil 0-1 2009/2010 was a cracking day too. Lee Barnard with a 93rd minute winner, down to 10 men, everyone up front bar Kalv & Jaidi, in the baking sunshine on that packed terrace.

Fulham2-2 at Loftus Road (2003???). Killer with a last gasp equaliser. Great day out.

Although the game was sh*t, it was great to experience my first away south coast derby this year.

Plenty others, but just as many shocking away days too. Great memories though, and plenty more to look forward to. OWTS...

CFSFC has already mentioned it, how could any away game be better than a 5:4 win away at Norwich, with an injury time winner, after we had been losing 2:0 then 3:1 then 4:3

And if we had lost that game we would have been well & truly fu**ed (relegated).

Also, I live in Norwich, sweet!!!!!!

(this year, Portman Rd was brilliant)

My first ever away games were Preston and Sheffield Wednesday, both 5-1 losses, ****ing sweet! How lucky was I!!

I've had some good away days, sadly missed loads of London ones (always the best) because of bloody Uni. Watford away, the JPS free kick is a stand out one however, got the train, got bladdered as Saints took over the town centre and the last minute goal was pure class.

Most recently BHA away at the Withdean, when Fonte's header dropped in it was chaos in that sh*tty stand.

Special mention to Preston away in our relegation season, the comeback and last gasp winner were brilliant.

Late goals and the sheer pandemonium in the away end are always amazing.
