That article can't be real! I thought it was The Onion or something!

Like "We didn't really want Jelavic. Rangers would have wanted a lot of money and he would've wanted to double his wages."

"So you didn't bid for him?"

"Oh yes we bid £5 million."

Mental!

I'd love it if Billy Sharp got us promoted this season over West Ham. So what, he might not make it in the Premier League - you're not there yet you over-confident cocky East Londoners. I've said it before and I'll say it again - I'd love it if they don't go up this season. Up **** creek without a paddle.

Cannot believe that people bid for players that they know they will not get, as someone said above just to please the masses. Need to be realistic all the time. Ok we pushed the boat out a bit when we went after Hooper, but that was an Adkins connection. A lot of clubs bid for players that are out of there league so the fans still believe they are a big club.

There's an awful lot of information in that interview. Not sure if that guy is just a trusted journo with great contacts, or Sullivan just likes blabbing. We're lucky to get Cortese to admit that we paid an undisclosed fee.

Sullivan is more than happy to pick up the phone and tell anyone anything. I think transparency is something he believes in big time!

After a couple of years of Cortese it's just plain odd to hear a chairman talking candidly about transfer targets, bids made, whether the manager wanted them, players wage demands etc... His honesty is to be applauded but it doesn't make you feel he has many limits when it comes to privacy and confidentiality.

I think we're better off with Cortese and waiting for the odd snippets of info that come from the chairman's dinners.

Got around to reading the full interview and saw this bit.

ID: Would you have looked at bringing Alan Pardew back? He has always said he has got unfinished business at West Ham, hasn’t he?

DS: We thought about it. But remember, at the time he had failed to get Southampton promotion for two or three seasons despite spending a pile of money. He had flopped at Charlton, so it was hard to make a case. I liked Pardew. The press all liked him.

Yep, passing on Pardew because he failed to get us promotion 3 years running. What a mong.
