Watford Build Up Thread

A bit too early to be calling games 'must win' - but with the likes of Palace, Boro, Blackpool, Leeds and Hull to come away from home, I think it's easy to say that losing this game will potentially make things seriously tricky for us.

Not as I see it, we'll probably need another 12 points away from home as a strict minimum. If we don't start getting them against Watford the presure on us will become unsurmountable.Plus anything other than a win on Saturday would probably see us out of the top 2 by the time we start our televised game at Leeds and I think that could be fatal what with the Warnock effect and

being on Sky where we often aren't all that great.

Didn't we beat Leeds on Sky this season?

It isn't must-win, not at all. But a win would be brilliant and we all want to start seeing some away form. I wish it wasn't after a 4-0 defeat for them though, they'll be looking to bounce back with a clean sheet. Another game where the first goal is crucial. If we get it, I think we'll win easily. If they get it, I don't see us turning it round.

I do however see us winning just about every home game, so it's going to be close right up til the end of the season.

If we lose and Brum win then they will have the chance to go above us.

When you compare their form and remaining fixtures against ours I'd say it would take a massive effort to overhaul them.

West Ham look likely to win too so they could pull ahead by 4 points with 1 game in hand.

We really need to win on Saturday, it's crunch time.

exactly, if we can't get 3 points away at Watford then I don't know how we're going to get them.

We will need to win 3 maybe 4 of our remaining away games and you have to target Watford,Palace,Millwall and Peterborough as the most likely places to do it. If you can't win the first of them then the opportunity window gets narrower and narrower. This game is MUST WIN and I'm sure Nigel will say so in his pre-match interview.

After the season we have had and the Premiership now being a real possibility would you be happy with a playoff place???.....Personally i dont want to go through that lottery and feel our best chance to go up is through one of the top two spots. Given this scenario then i think Saturday is a must win game because i hate to say it but you just know Warnock will have his Leeds side totally fired up by the time we face them......if we fail to win either of our next two games we will suddenly be under the most enormous pressure to get one of the top 2 places. C'mon you Saints, you can do this!

That's how I see it as well. After these two games I feel we should have all the important players back to near full form and fitness with the possible exception of Billy and Chaplow. Having that full squad and double fixtures a week will be the key as to who comes out on top for an automatic spot. We look in good shape to get there, but could be really close. Win these next two away games and we have to be favourites for an automatic spot.

We cannot afford starting the likes of Billy and Chaplow against Watford unless they can last the full 90. They certainly have not shown enough to be sufficiently influencing the game as yet and having to replace them leaves you limited tactical substitutions. Watford will have two good new signings and have not been shabby without those additions at home. Winning this one is vital and only a full strength Saints can be sure of pulling off the result

People shouldn't think it's a given that we will beat Watford, these are the sort of games we should win if we have aspirations of being in the Prem but they have only lost one game at home in the league since October (to Reading) and have had some pretty impressive wins. I can see us drawing this then and winning away at the likes of Hull and 'brough.

I think we will hold out for a tight 3-2 win though.

If history has taught us anything it is that we can lose 3-1 at Watford only to go on and beat Middlesborougho n their own ground 4-0. This is Saints remember. some things never change!

This I agree with, to be promoted this season we have to be regular winners away from home as well as at home.

True. To go up, which we certainly can do, we have to get used to winning away from home more frequently than we currently are doing. Our away form till the end of season has to become of promotion standard. Stating the obvious, I know, but our away form will determine the success of our season.

A win on Saturday is important given the standings in the table and the remaining fixtures. We have 14 games remaining and need to get at least 27 points in my view - 8 of the games are away. We might get 14 or 15 points at home so we must get some wins in some of the away matches and it woudl be good to start at Watford.

Sorry to say this has banana skin written all over it. The players will consider this an easy game when Watford are more than capable of playing a tight game and nicking a win. 1-2 Watford. This may well be the game that sees us start a steady slip down into the play-off places. ):

How do you know this?

i can absolutely guarantee the players do not see this as an easy game. its the 2nd tier of english football, i.e only 1 league "better", these are highly professional players and teams that all know there aint anything like an easy game in any league. Games may end up easy but nothing is easy before hand. nonsense. AND popy****.

Jos is fit and NA hopeful Richardson will be in contention soon, possibly Sat.

Frazer "getting closer" probably means we will see him in about 3 weeks. Chaplow was "getting closer" for about 4 weeks. At least butterfield is near to full fitness as not sure about harding when up against decent winger i.e snodgrass next weekend

I see a Saints win all day long. Can't see the form of last week disappearing just because of a change of location.

The head honcho at Sports Interactive, makers of Football Manager - is a Watford fan. He had a little moan about the crowing of Saints fans on Twitter after the 4-0. You know who to gloat to, then :)

Keep your arms inside the carriage at all times!!

Coming up for 2 calendar months of Football left and we are in the prime seats, because this is the Championship nothing is a forgone conclusion which makes it even more exciting. Interestingly reading through the posts the battle scars that so many of us carry from so many seasons of Saints dashing our hopes, by allowing our genetic flaw of fizzling out to strike is amazing. If last season is anything to go by then I think Doctor Nigel is Prescribing the right course of medicine.

I would like to think that Leicester was the defining moment of this season, a night when for once this season the whole team were complete strangers, I think that was a metaphorical kick in the pants the team needed. And with that being such a poor performance I don't think it was a place the team liked being in.

The run in is littered with Banana Skins for everyone around us, so let's enjoy the ride and see where it takes us.

As Nigel would say: Together as one!

As John Boy Saint would say: Come on!Let's reel this big bugger in!!!

But Adkins did say (about Frazer) that he didn't want the opposition to know whether he would be playing or not. Butterfield is now fit though! Edited by krissyboy31

I always like to look at the reciprocal thread on the oppos fans forum. This post did make me laugh (sorry if posted already):

Southampton are a team we really should be beating IMHO. Rickie Lambert is not a good centre back, and Jamey Ashdown has been similarly weak this season. We should look to exploit these two come Saturday.
