Think it shows his absence has been caused by injury not that NA doesn't like him.

Are we even sure he's injured? Richardsons been the best right-back in the league so far so it's not surprise to me that Butterfield hasn't had a look in.

Maybe its just the games Ive seen, but Ive always preferred Butterfield to Richardson. He adds something to ther team, not just the position.

Not sure what that means in all honesty - and at any rate, Richardson is up the top of the league in terms of assists. If it wasn't for Lambert being absolutely sensational, he'd be my player of the season so far.

Not dissing Richardson, he is probably the better right back but Butterfield is more vocal and the team as a whole plays better with him in it imo.

better than being top of the league..?

It's quite clear to me that Butterfield has many intangible qualities off the field that the club value highly and want to keep him around because of it. I personally thought we'd see Butterfield leave in the summer and Stephens become the backup to Richardson but no harm in keeping Butterfield around and I can't recall him ever letting us down on the pitch.

Explicitly trust the club on this one.

Don't forget it was Butters who was keeping Frazser out for pretty much most of last season. I am happy, but like others surprised. Culd not have blamed him if he felt he needed to get away to get some football.

Well, I like Butterfield.....and I also like Richardson. But which one is better? There's only one way to find out.....

Dance off? Is it on?

I'd imagine Southampton is a great place to be if you're a footballer right now.

Yep, I am, pity you're not. Get your tiny, little brain around this, why the f**k would someone bother to come up with such a made up story about Butterfield & Adkins? Weirdo

Because they were full of the brown smelly stuff? (As in, "Adkins always plays Harding ahead of Butterfield at RB, he obviously doesn't rate Butterfield as a RB" or words to that effect - which is obviously why Adkins has just given him a new 1 year contract!?)

Or, maybe to try and make yourself look big and important? Many schoolboys try to do similar on internet forums.

I don't know, you tell me. But, whatever the truth may be, the fact that Butterfield has just signed a new contract would indicate that there isnt a problem between him and Adkins.

I most certainly wouldnt agree to work an extra year under a manager who I disliked!

P.S. Well done for toning down your insults. However, they do still indicate a very young mental age (if not your actual one!!)

What's the story with Butterfield recently? Seemed Frazer had permanently claimed the RB slot, but apparently Danny is picked ahead of him and doing well (judging by match reports). Never our MoM but never our scapegoat either.

Just a case of two RB's that are equally rated by the manager? Frazer not firing at 100%? Butterfield picked as a specialist for certain games?

Edit: maybe slightly stupid of me to bump a thread with this title, but it seemed the most appropriate thread to use... and it's too late now to unbump it anyway...

I think it's that Danny is a better deliverer of the ball to the box which is what we've needed recently.

I see as follows:

Richardson has a great partnership with Guly, but when Guly isn't playing right midfield I think Butterfield suits our other options there (specifically De Ridder and Chaplow). Richardson gets forward a lot more and offers more of a threat in the final third, but Butterfield has been very useful in certain games firing in diagonal crosses to Lambert at the far post (a tactic we've see a lot in away games since Christmas).

I genuinely think it is just a matter of who the opposition are, how direct we're going to play, and whether Guly plays right-midfield or not.

IMHO Richardson has had a knock this season and maybe that is why Butterfield is now in the line up.
