The Sun on Sunday

I think the discussion would go like this:-

Sergei "How did Katie Price get so successful?"

Business leader or prominent politician "Large teats, numerous trips to the plastic surgeon and countless disastrous relationships played out in public".

So you would acknowledge then that they would be acquainted with Katie Price and her lifestyle and relationships?

Despite Murdoch being the bogey man it looks like the Sun sold 3.26 million copies on Sunday. The British people are obviously not as bothered as the great and the good about phone hacking, the Murdochs and "gutter press". I would love to see a reporter ask those luvvies Hugh Grant and Steve Coogan what they think of the circulation figures and what it means for their high profile anti Murdoch agenda.

Without sounding too snobbish, I'm not sure popularity is always the best measure of something!!!!!

Given what has emerged from Leveson today, then I have big issues over the malign influence of sections of the press (and the "this is in the past" response is about as convincing and sincere as the "lone rogue reporter" response).

And there's nothing party politicial in there as the last Labour Government were just as much in cahoots and giving as much deference as the current Conservative one to undemocratic and vested interests.

So 3.26% of the British Population bought the Sun yesterday.

Shame it will have so much influence on the other 96.24 million (apparently)

I read it. It seemed a bit strange to read the Sun on a day when you don't normally see it. Generally the Sun has always been more tongue in cheek and the NOTW far more malicious and spiteful and that did not seem to have changed now it is published on a Sunday. I like the sensational sports coverage but generally this paper can be read in twenty minutes and you do not get bogged down like you do in the Sunday Times or the Observer.

I used to find your posts credible in the political threads.

It is amusing reading all the paper snobs on here. if people want to have a light hearted read so be it. As for the Leveson enquiry and people like Church (600k ffs) bleating on, it was only the scandal and tittle tattle that kept them high profile so long. We all want the good bits in life but those celebs who take the money by being in the red tops then don't like it when some un-savoury things in their life come out. As for Prescott, a man who courted Murdoch so he could have power.... what a hypocrite.

3.26m wow! Hats off to Murdoch, the man knows what the public want and he gives it to them! Outstanding figures when you consider the Observer only sells 277k copies each week (the Guardian even less daily) according to the latest ABC's. No wonder despite the Leveson destraction News Copr's shares are so high!

They even sold over 500k copies in the Greater Manchester/ Merseyside area too. Brilliant stuff! Looks like the scousers have finally got over themselves, although some fantastic build up coverage to the Cup Final probably helped.

People love to bash Murdoch but he is clearly far more intelligent than people give him credit for.

Great to see so many people picking up a newspaper on a Sunday again. Murdoch has directly and indirectly secured jobs for printers, delivery drivers, newsagents, ad sales and Journos. Great news for the economy! Even the paper boys will have extra work and more money to spend on cheap booze! (well that's what I spent my paper round money on anyway).

I didn't but it by the way, looked at it on clipshare yesterday and was pretty underwhelmed (except for the football - amazing as ever) if I'm honest - personally I take the Sunday Times but I'm certainly not snobbish enough to look down on the Sun's readers - the beating heart of our country!

Expect the circulation to go down to 2.9m next week - however that's still double the Sunday Mirror.

Murdoch knows that Britain is a right wing Conservative country. The whole Germanic north of Europe is right wing conservative in its attitudes. He gives the people what they want. it really isn't rocket science, yet the Liberal Elite/Lounge Legends are so far up their own arses that they cannot see it.

I prefer to look down on Sun readers. Jasper was right back in the 80's and 90's with his skits on them and from the people i know who "read" the Sun, they are generally of low intelligence with an inability to converse properly, preferring to confine themselves to a limited range of topics; generally related to television programmes, unrealistic future sexual achievements and celebrity gossip. Granted, they talk enthusiastically on these subjects, but then spoil it by liberal use of swearing to (presumably) lengthen a sentence, due to a limited vocabulary.

I know it's all very un-PC these days to be condescending, but quite honestly i've given them enough time to better themselves and they have failed. Miserably.

The most predictable event in British journalism has finally been announced.

Rupert Murdoch is to wow Britons with the reading age of a five year old with a new organ, the Sun on Sunday. The paper fills the 'void' left by the News of the World, which was axed after it was discovered that they were very naughty boys.

We do not buy The Sun in Liverpool, so I will not be buying it. What about you? Are you looking forward to seeing a pert pair o' page 3 knockers while you watch Nicky Campbell trying to separate God-botherers from atheists on The Big Questions?

F**k me, you are such a typical left-wing unpleasant little snob.

I can't believe that people are happy to line the pockets of a company who thought it was fine to hack a dead girls phone for commercial gain. Clearly some people have no morals.

I worked for them for 9 years earning a massive wedge whilst doing it. After the NOTW shut I took voluntary redundo and took a huge lump out, mostly tax free. My old man (and many others from Southampton, about a third of the total NI printing staff were from Southampton between 1987 & 2007 give or take) broke the printers picket line in the 80's to take the massive wedge on offer from Murdoch. Huge Labour voter that hated the tories my old man but principles/ morals don't put food on the table/ pay for our holidays mush.

I love NI, you should love me because I took so much money out of there!

They have a huge online readership though - 39 million readers a month, second only to the Mail. And online is the future.

What, not The Mail, another paper whose beliefs seem to offend the lefties. I suppose all those readers are ignorant scum bags as well.

Which ever way you look at it, Murdoch is a genius. And no matter how offended they are by him, and NI, they keep buying his papers and watching his TV.

The British people could finish Murdoch tomorrow. They dont, because despite what the lefties say, he gives the people what they want. That's the thing that really sticks in the throat of luvvies like Grant & Coogan.

Ironically Mail Online has ramped up their internet traffic by including the sort of gossip led articles and pictures of scantily clad women that their editor Paul Dacre hates. I imagine that if the Guardian were to stoop low into the gutter to include this type of content then they'd be back at number 1 where they were for years before.

You may consider Murdoch a genius, I consider him someone who is raping money from the gullible British consumers while allowing his staff to persue highly illegal methods to do it.

Still, as long as everyone can read the latest Katie Price article and look at pictures of half naked celebs falling out of taxis while people in Syria are dying in a horrific war that might get 2 paragraphs on page 18 that's fine.

Half of that figure went in legal costs as it took so much litigation and pressure for NI to finally admit their culpability.

As for the rest, well if a newspaper was hacking my 16 year old daughters phone (still whilst Church was a child star and not yet an adult) and eavesdropping on personal messages, some of which were very sensitive, then I would be incandescent with rage.

Then throw in publicising my mothers attempted suicides and other personal issues, then I'm afraid I would want the book thrown at them.

How much for your 16 year old daughter's privacy and the privacy of your mother???? £300k doesn't even come close!!!

I hope for his sake that he's not one of those involved in the serial criminal activities which seem to have become deeply rooted in the culture of NOTW. Waving his pay packet at the NOTW's victims suggests he's lost his bearings, so who knows? Today's revelations about what went on in Jackanory's office were truly shocking - the intimidation and corruption of police officers investigating a murder linked to NOTW-hired investigators.
